I truly owe this business a review. Unfortunately my scheduled layover took a turn for the worse…read moreand I was stuck in the Juneau airport for about 8 hours. I don't know how I would have survived without this quaint little coffee shop/snack bar/bar. Initially I got a chai tea. It was good. Nothing too special. After announcement that mechanical failure for my flight to Anchorage would delay us, I returned to Cup of Joe to order lunch. I got the pre-packaged Cobb salad and took an extra dressing (no questions asked!!). It was a decent salad that was pretty packed with protein . After a marathon watch of Yellowstone right there in the Cafe, I got an Americano with room for cream and sugar. It was the highlight of my time there. Above all the person working there was very friendly while not bothersome (i.e. he could have tried to push me along but didn't...he also asked once if I was sleeping but I promptly woke up and said "no, just squinting at the small tablet." To which he replied that was good because you couldn't sleep in there.) I suggest stopping in if you have a layover or few minutes before your flight.

Tony was so friendly and came to check in with us about how everything was. We had a good chat about food, Juneau, etc. One of the kitchen staff gave us as little sample of a huckleberry milkshake - so yummy! The food came out quickly and sizzling hot. It's a fast casual place with a nice vibe. There are picnic tables outside with a view of the harbor and several tables inside. Look forward to coming again and trying more items on the menu!

I ordered the 8oz sirloin which came with fries and grilled veggies and a double chocolate chip cookie dough milkshake. Service was fast, food came promptly. Everything was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare (Tony asks how you want it cooked). Everyone in the party loved their food. The Gorgonzola butter on the steak was fantastic as well as the horseradish sauce! I noticed that a couple people got the steamed clams which looked really good. And pretty much everyone else in the restaurant ordered steak, so if you want a good steak, this is the place to be! The milkshake was also fantastic. Tony was so nice and came over to talk to us and see how we liked the food. We'll definitely be back!

Bernadette's is the red capped tent found in Marine Park, right behind the blue tent of Carillo's…read more For some reason when we visited the park, Carillo's had a huge line (which we joined of course), and Bernadette's was completely empty. Is this an indication of faster service? Or is it because the food is worse? We ended up picking a pork skewer to compare. Pork Skewer ($8) - The first piece I ate seemed to be superior to the Carillo's version - still with the sticky sweet savory sauce, but a fattier and juicier piece of meat in the center. Subsequent pieces destroyed my initial impression. This business seems to be using very low quality cuts of meat, filled with fat and gristle, making the meat very difficult to chew and eat. In addition, some pieces of the meat taste old, as if they are close to rotting, kind of a nasty flavor that made me not want to finish the skewer. I guess the only real advantage as that the skewers they serve are larger than that of Carillo's? (2/5) Well, I certainly learned why the blue tent had a longer line... Maybe the chicken skewers and other food served at Bernadette's are better? I'm not sure, but I certainly won't be revisiting.

While we were in Juneau we were looking for a quickish bite to eat. We chose Bernadette's because…read moreit had the shorter line of the two food carts (I think only due to location though) and I'm always up for Filipino food. The menu offers most of your popular items. I spied sisig so I definitely had to get an order of that. I also got an order of lumpia and turon. The sisig was a smallish portion wrapped in foil but it was really delicious. This version tasted different than others I've had at restaurants and there was a definite spicy kick to it. The lumpia and turon were also quite good with a crispy outer shell and plentiful filling. Service was friendly and it took a few minutes for the lumpia and sisig to be ready for us and the turon was premade so we only needed to grab one from the stack on the cart. Since Bernadette's is a food cart, you could say the ambiance is the surrounding port area which is a scenic place to sit off to the side and eat your tasty meal.

Just do your research in advance as prices fluctuate and save up. We came a week after the second location closed for the season so we waited probably 40 minutes in line. The line would have moved quicker if there was someone inside helping herd patrons I think and make sure they weren't sitting like every other seat at the bars or using the seats to stow belongings which I found to be a bit annoying but that's not the shack's fault-- that's just selfish American culture for you. My husband and I got a medium and the bisque. I heard the crab is usually caught and frozen and steamed so usually tourist season it's just rewarmed but honestly the red king crab we had wasn't chewy at all. It's chocked full of protein so even the three legs for big eaters like us and three claws plus the bisque which had plenty of crab in it as well was filling. The legs were partially cracked so for us so accessing the meat was quite easy. Honestly, all in all, a bucket list meal fulfilled.
