There are a few solid menu choices, and the service is generally friendly and efficient. In fact, I've actually been to both locations, once when it was in the downtown and now their new location a couple blocks away after a fire forced them to move. Despite the setbacks, Blue Star Cafe is still around, a testament to resilience and their positive standing within the community. The menu primarily consists of classic American fare, a lot of breakfast foods, sandwiches and hearty dinner plates. I find that the excel with their full dinner meals. I got their country fried steak dinner and that was excellent. The steak was was fried well, batter not too thick and had plenty of flavor. The sausage gravy paired with the steak nicely and complemented the mashed potatoes. The green beans were seasoned nicely, they had a ton of flavor! It all costed only $11 as well, you cannot beat that! Their sandwiches are basic and affordable. Both their pork tenderloin sandwich and their fish sandwich are plain (although the fish comes with tartar sauce). You can order fries with them, but they often come unseasoned. Both sandwiches follow the same affordable trend, with them being under $10 each. The servers here are always very welcoming and kind. The ambiance often feels lively, it's a popular spot for many locals. I'd say, Blue Star Cafe is the hot spot of Gibson City, and for good reason!

For a German restaurant in rural Illinois, the food has been fresh and authentic and is a nice change in scenery from the local cuisine. The hours are a bit odd, so you definitely have to be intentional when you want to visit. If you find yourself here at the right time, you'll have a decent meal for sure. If you're looking to try a little bit of everything, the Smorgasbord is your best option, that's what I ordered and shared with a colleague. The bratwursts were my favorite thing on the platter. There was definitely something going through the meat, some kind of sauce or cheese that added extra flavor to the sausage. The meat itself was rich and hearty for sure. The other sides were decent too, I really enjoyed the crispy potato pancakes and it was the first time I had tried spatzel. I'd say I'm a fan. The red cabbage was decent too, it was kind of just boiled cabbage. The Rahmschnitzel was definitely over-sauced. I'm sure the pan fried pork on its own was delicious, but by the time it hit the table, the sauce had turned the breading soggy and pork itself became a bit spongy as a result. Not only that, but the gravy wasn't the most warm and seemed a bit congealed. Everything else was satisfactory for sure. Dinner was decent, but the times I've had food catered has been awesome. Horsch Radish is well equipped to handle large events and can meet many different taste buds and food preferences. They had chicken, beef, fish, pasta, salads, everything on offer. All the food tasted great and all the guests loved it as well. Not only that, but the service provided was outstanding. In all honesty, I really liked the catering even more than the restaurant, and the catering wasn't necessarily German food! If you need a catering option, I'd look to Horsch Radish as an option for sure!

His response, "If I raise it a dime, the older crowd will be angry and leave." He said with a smile and I laughed. Keep it up older crowd!!! I know that's a weird flex for a restaurant, but listen, usually I'm playing Tetris with plates and elbows, so having actual room to breathe? I appreciated that. Now I started with the Wisconsin cheddar soup, and let me tell you, it came out HOT. I mean fresh off the stove, don't play with it hot. Flavor was there, but I'm not the biggest bacon fan, so I couldn't quite finish it. And that's okay, because the main event was waiting. The chicken stir fry? Oh, now THAT'S where things got serious. Best thing on the table, hands down. I even added my wife's eggs from her meal, yes, I mixed cuisines, yes I took risks, and baby, I was gone. I scarfed that plate down faster than a horse at the Kentucky Derby. No shame, no regrets. And let's not forget our server, such a sweetie. Always nearby, refilling waters, checking in, chatting just enough to make you feel taken care of without hovering. Exactly how it should be done. All in all? Great food, great space, great service. I'll definitely be back...probably for that stir fry alone.

I came in looking for dairy free options and was so happy to find out they make their oatmeal with no dairy at all. I ordered it with raisins and brown sugar on the side, and it was simple, warm, and exactly what I wanted. If you do want milk, they'll bring it on the side. I also ordered the grilled peach salad, and wow. Perfectly grilled, sweet, and such a standout. The dressing seemed to contain dairy, but the team was very helpful in guiding me and making sure I had what I needed. It quickly became one of my favorite salads I've had in a long time. My husband sampled some of their pastries and said they were delicious. They also had a massive cinnamon roll on the counter, probably close to ten inches wide. I didn't get it this time, but if you're a cinnamon roll person, this is absolutely the place to indulge. They have regular sized ones too if you're not ready to commit to the giant version. The server was so kind, and I think the manager spoke with us as well. She was just as friendly. I also really liked the decor, which gave the place a comfortable, welcoming vibe. And small detail, but appreciated: they have a baby changing table in the bathroom, which I know is a lifesaver for a lot of families.

What you can expect: -meals served on antique china -homemade breakfasts and lunches -grab and go meals and sweets, including cinnamon rolls big and small -friendly servers My dining companion was a big fan of her omelet and home fries, especially the not-so-overwhelming portion size. I enjoyed my cinnamon roll and hash browns. My small critique is that the cinnamon rolls aren't served warm. I asked my server to heat mine up, and while she did, it really didn't impact the roll--only some frosting. If I was to return, I would order one to go and reheat it at home...and would I return? Yes, and I already know I want to try to baked oatmeal.

But today, I stumbled upon something even more fascinating. In my most refined, high-society tone: At the heart of this charming local tea room lies a true dessert gem: their Butterfinger Pie. From the very first bite, the experience is nothing short of extraordinary. The pie begins with a perfectly flaky crust - light, buttery, and delicately crisp-that provides an ideal foundation. Nestled atop this golden base is a luscious layer of rich, velvety chocolate that adds a deep, indulgent sweetness, harmonizing beautifully with the crust's subtle savoriness. The star of the show, however, is the creamy filling: smooth, dreamy, and decadently rich, it melts effortlessly on the tongue, delivering a luscious texture that's both comforting and luxurious. Crowning this masterpiece is a generous sprinkle of crushed Butterfinger candy bars, offering a delightful crunch and bursts of peanut buttery flavor that contrast wonderfully with the pie's creamy layers. Each mouthful is a perfect symphony of textures and tastes-flaky, creamy, crunchy, sweet, and slightly salty-making this Butterfinger Pie a must-try for any dessert lover seeking a uniquely satisfying treat in a cozy, inviting setting. Everything is so good here!
