I have three cabins across California with three different propane providers and this is the only bad propane company I've come across. I bought a cabin in Mineral, CA and unfortunately decided to continue with Suburban propane service that the previous owner had established and signed a three year contract. Throughout the three years, I've had trouble - from almost running out of propane and having to pay rush fee to get a truck out there to paying almost twice the market rate after the first year. Please do not sign a contract with this company and do not expect them to not fleece you with rush fees and double the market propane cost after year one of the contract. And top of all this, they socked me with a tank pick up fee even though I completed the full three year contract. Finally after three years, I switched to Ed Staub out of Susanville with no contract and where all customers pay the same for Propane. Please do your mental health a favor and stay away from Suburban Propane. read more

They can never explain billing and raise prices saying it is because of weather! Don't trust this company!

TERRIBLE experience trying to become their customer... We were given an appointment (and appointment card) for an 8am meeting this morning at our new construction. I was out there for 45 minutes with our contractor and no one showed. When I tried calling them I could only get a call center in New York who also couldn't get through to the local office. I eventually left and went by their office. Everyone was in a meeting, but I kept knocking. Someone finally came to the door and when I told him the issue he said that Greg didn't even start until 8am so why would he meet us at 8am. Very dismissive. My dad finally got a call from Greg at 9:30 and when my dad told him that I tried to meet him he said he was in a safety meeting that he couldn't get out of. Also, very dismissive and flat rude. So much so that he hung on my dad - an 86 year old man who's currently in the hospital. We are definitely taking our business elsewhere. If this is how they treat potential customers I can only imagine how they treat clients locked into a contract. Their slogan is to expect more from your propane supplier... We were expecting the bare minimum and still got let down. Customers beware. read more

Beware of astronomical hidden costs. They are wolves in sheep clothing. We rented from suburban propane for over 12 years. This year even with their managers special they were $.60 and more higher than their competitors. We decided to change companies and they changed $159.00 to pick up a tank we had been renting for over 12 years and when we checked other competitors and they don't charge to pick up their own tank. They also failed to in form us that a contract with them states customers solely responsible for equipment removal with no fee amount indicated, so they are free to charge you anything they want. Their hidden way to keep you as a life time customer by charging an astronomical pickup fee inorder to keep their prices high. This business is like a timeshare, once they reel you end you can't get out and the price keeps going up. read more

Ask to see contracts and paper documents, believe nothing they say. They will tell you outright lies to try to get you to sign up for a contract. I scheduled a delivery, they confirmed they would come, then the delivery guy refused to give us gas because the guy that used to live here was the account holder in his documents. We had called multiple times to try to put my name on the account to order fuel and it's never been input into their system. Every time we call them, they tell us different information. These people are impossible to do business with. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this company. We have been with Suburban Propane for 20 years. In that time we've had little issues - running the tank dry during Thanksgiving, getting a little behind during bad financial years. Thru thick and thin, whether the issue was of our own making or a screw up on Suburban's end - they have always gone far beyond the call of duty to help us. After the Carr Fire we got behind in our bill. We are caught up now but they were very nice about working with us to get caught up. Right now we have a house full. So, we're using a lot of Propane. As a result, we ran out today. We were scheduled to be filled Friday but with the extra people and heat, showers dishes etc we came up a bit short. Even though it was near the end of the day the lady (I wish my wife got her name) found an available driver and took care of us. I know that big utility companies can be impersonal and uncaring. But we have never found that to be the case with Suburban. They have always been personable and truly cared about helping us. Over 20 years I have never been treated badly or unfairly. That says a lot about a company these days! read more

They are crooks. Lock you in to high price contract. They take two weeks to fill after you call them unless you cancel their service. Then filled same day at $4.9999 per gallon with additional charges that are normally included with competitors price. Competitor is priced at $2.7999 per gallon. The only thing suburban propane is good for is throwing away money. I would not recommend them to fill my Coleman lantern. Piss poor customer service read more

just tried filling my 25 gallon tank at several places and was refused because red bluff suburban put new valve and recertified but never put it on the tank and charged me as much as a new tank would have cost approx. 3 years ago now have no way of helping me , never ever will do any buisness with this company again, very unhappy with the replacement valve and recertifying tank without showing proof of it and cost of their work read more

I can't give enough praise and thanks to Tambrey at Suburban Propane in Red Bluff. She is a very valuable asset to the entire Suburban organization on every level. She consistently has shown kindness and professionalism to me by her knowledge and education about tank levels and appliances that are heavy users of propane. This allows me to make better choices in making wise decisions as to usage and delivery times. She truly cares for her customers by looking out for their interest as to pricing and payment. Since 2016, I was lucky to grab onto her and will always look for her because I can rely on her honesty in helping me to meet my needs. Suburban Propane should take note of the very valuable person they have in their employ, and reward Tambrey accordingly...possibly advancement or raise ;-) read more

Worse propane provider ever. They have extremely high prices, and lock users into long contracts with expensive early cancellation fees. Stay far away from them, get someone else to provide propane. If you get a new place and the tank is there, call them and demand they pick up the tank immediately, they have to. Get another provider, you will be glad you did. read more

I used Suburban Propane because it was the propane company the previous owners of my property used. I was unfamiliar with propane and the tank was already in place. I used Suburban for about 2 years. After speaking to a friend and he mentioned what he paid for propane I was shocked at what I was paying so I decided to do some research. Suburban Propane's prices were higher than all the other propane companies I checked with - in one case $1.45 a gallon more. So I changed companies, this is when I was really outraged, they charged me $150.00 to remove their tank!!! I am 62 years old and have NEVER been charged by a company to actually remove their own equipment. Highway robbers. read more

Kelly in the office, has been a great customer service representative. We are new to Suburban Propane and the use of same, she has worked with me to find the most economical way for use of propane for my utilities. Ron Johnson, the service tech, is an exceptional employee. He came to my home when we first signed up for service and checked every propane extension to our home. He then came again to replace our tank . He is very kind, polite, efficient and was willing to help with our additional needs for further use of propane on our property. He gave me his card and indicated that my husband could call him with any questions, any time. Now that is "customer service". It is so nice to know that a company still maintains the ethics and morality of a "person to person" care for their services. read more

I haven't ever used this but thought I'd give it a try Just wanted to say what an excellent job Mike and Greg did at moving my propane tank so my new Old Hickory Oak Shed..could be placed. Dont think the weather could be any worse...it was pouring down rain. They had to deal with all the mud on top of getting soaking wet. Poor guys but they did it..lots of shout outs for Mike and Greg.
