This place is untrustworthy and incompetent, I financed a used car from this dealership at the beginning of August last year. Since then I have put about 6,000 miles on it and an oil change in between as needed. 3 weeks ago my car went dead commuting home from work without any warning whatsoever. I make it to my mechanics and lo and behold, I need a full engine replacement... 8 months after purchase! A whopping over 7k fix is needed. Not sure about anybody else but that's not exactly money I have just laying around. 3 weeks ago I contacted the dealership to ask if they could help in anyway, only to realize I was never offered any extended warranty on this vehicle during time of purchase (this was my first time buying a car, I had no idea what to even ask for). I ended up speaking to their service department to which they said I could "good will" the car and "Hyundai would cover 80%-90% of the cost", only I would have to bring it into a different authorized dealership because they dont have time and were "backed up a month". I call around and it took until I got to the 4th authorized dealership before they even knew what I was talking about and the one person who was familiar with the "good willing" process verbatim said "that guy was blowing smoke up your a**". Referring to the service department at this dealership. So after a week and a half of my mechanics trying to find an engine at the lowest price (mind you still over 7k), I have called this dealership more than 10 times, left messages, when I have talked to someone they have assured me my message will reach a supervisor (via sticky note) and someone will call me back. Well surprise, surprise not a single returned phone call or message from a supervisor. I'm not one to review any place, let alone leave a bad review but this is all very shady, I feel like I have been entirely taken advantage of. Because from my perspective they were aware this was my first time purchasing a vehicle, somehow was not offered a warranty of any kind and I need a full engine replacement less than a year after purchase. When I purchased a used Audi Q5 10 days ago i was assured by the salesman that he would assist me, but the spare key fob he handed me didn't work and didn't even have a battery. So I put a battery in, but it still didn't work; it wasn't programmed to the vehicle. So I called to set up a return, however, he told me there's nothing they can do, I should just go see a mechanic and he's so very, very sorry. Sure he is. These Suburban Hyundai salesmen are so two- faced! One minute they want to be your best friend, and the next minute, they want you to just go away! read more

RUDE! I called this dealership because my brand-new car's check engine light came on. When I reached Nathan in the service department, he completely brushed me off. He told me to just drop off the car and figure out my own ride. For a brand-new vehicle, that's outrageous. After I expressed my frustration, Nathan later called back to say sorry and let me know about courtesy car availability -- but by then, it was too late. The first impression said it all. When your new car already has engine issues, the last thing you need is indifference from the service team. I expect empathy, professionalism, and a sense of urgency -- not to be treated like an inconvenience. read more

I am very upset with Suburban and with Hyundai Motor Finance. I leased a ioniq5 in late 2024 for 13 months and was given only one key. But when I returned the car Hyundai Motor Finance dinged me $400 for missing second key - and Suburban Hyundai said sorry you are toast!!! Terrible dealership and worse Finance group. Avoid Hyundai like the plague .... Same with Suburban Hyundai. They both remind me of pickpockets using every opportunity to take your money!! read more

Not sure where to start. The salesmen were shouting profanity in the lobby with customers present, complaining about people asking questions -- extremely unprofessional behavior. On top of that, I had belongings stolen from my vehicle while it was on their lot. I understand I shouldn't leave valuables in my car, but that's not the main issue here. The service department is a joke. I had a part ordered for my vehicle and waited six months. During that time, I called multiple times for updates, and no one ever had answers or called me back. Eventually I called again to check, and suddenly the part was "ready." When I brought my vehicle in, they had it all day and didn't fix anything. Now they're giving me the runaround and acting like they've never even seen my vehicle -- even though it was just in their shop. Long story short: I do NOT recommend purchasing or getting service here. read more

This place seriously is a joke, and unfortunately I learned that the hard way. I bought a used car from them on 12/27/25, and a week after having it the check engine light comes on. I go and get it fixed and 2 days later the check engine light comes back on again. I call the service department and for 6 days straight no one returns my calls. Finally, I just call my salesman and when I ask them to fix it the second time (January 19th), they DENY me because my "warranty hasn't kicked in yet." They said if they fixed it I'd have to pay out of pocket, and that I have to wait 30-60 days for it to be approved. Mind you I'm new to buying a car so I'm trusting their word... I call them a month after purchasing the vehicle and they THEN tell me I have to call my warranty provider, which is something no one had previously explained. I call my warranty provider and they proceed to tell me my warranty has been active since January 2nd. Why deny me if you don't even have the correct information?? Having me drive with an unreliable vehicle basically off the lot. I wouldn't trust going back here for anything. They clearly don't care about you after selling you a vehicle. Granted, I was there for 24,000 mile maintenance under the service plan of my 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe, but I found the experience to be efficient and pleasant. The manager Sean explained everything including a persistent annoyance with the optional head rails on my vehicle. The additional optional services were explained, but without a high pressure sales job. I will note that the services appear to be very expensive compared to my prior vehicle, which was a Ford EDGE. I will have to make a decision about keeping the car past the 36,000 mile warranty. A nice bonus was that my car was returned to me washed and shiny. I imagine I will be less happy in the future when I get that hefty service bill past 36,000 miles! The service was done in the time promised and I was kept up to date via texts. The communication seems to work at this dealership Vs John Amato back in WI. Oh yes! I called earlier in the week to confirm that the service plan would be honored on my vehicle and to my delight there was no change when I got the car to the dealership. If I could leave zero stars, I would! On October 5th, my engine went out on my 2020 Hyundai Tucson as I was driving and I had to get AAA to tow me to my house. 2 days later, which was Monday, I had to get my Tucson towed to Suburban Hyundai of Troy because obviously that's where I bought my Tucson from. I only had my SUV for not even a full 5 years before the engine went out on me. MY TUCSON WAS AT HYUNDAI FOR MORE THAN 3 MONTHS. Not only that, they have several upon several cars with the same engine issues that's been waiting to be serviced for several months. Based off that, Hyundai really needs a nationwide recall on their engines. Both my mom and I had to go up there in person individually to check the status of my car, because receiving updates was rare. THEY PROMISED ME A LOANER CAR THAT I NEVER RECEIVED. I asked if I could receive a detail as compensation for waiting for my car for so long. I was told that they don't have a detail department. But they do have one, it's just one that's shared with other dealerships with Suburban. I will NEVER buy another Hyundai again. read more

my 2022 Hyundai in for a minor screen glitch, expecting warranty coverage, since I have both factory and extended warranty. Instead, they kept my vehicle for several days and accused me of accident-related damage -- yet provided no proof of any accident. Despite my valid warranties, they pressured me to pay for the repair out of pocket. My vehicle already had a manufacturer buyback/lemon history, which is why I purchased extended warranty for extra protection. Still, my warranty was denied without clear evidence. I filed a BBB complaint and contacted Hyundai Corporate, but they sided with the dealership, leaving me financially burdened. I'm sharing this to warn others to be cautious when dealing with warranty claims at Suburban Hyundai of Troy. My experience left me frustrated and disappointed. Thank you for replying, Sean, but unfortunately, your message doesn't address the facts. I was wrongly charged $765.95 after being accused of an accident that does not exist on my Carfax report. I contacted your team multiple times and even filed a BBB complaint, with no resolution. I've already tried to handle this privately. Being asked to "reach out again" feels like a scripted response -- not a sincere effort to fix the situation. I'm sharing this to help protect other customers from going through the same frustrating experience. The service department is absolutely degenerate. I would drive an extra 80 miles to find a better Hyundai dealership than this if I need dealership service. I had two flat tires on my Hyundai and they had the car for a month. There were no mechanical problems, there was nobody panel issues, it was just two flat tires. A month! Constantly my insurance company would tell me they can't get ahold of them, which I believe because I had the same problem, They literally will never call you back so don't leave a voicemail. Stay on the line even if it takes a half hour to talk to a service rep. If you can't get a hold of a service rep you can call sales and ask to speak to the general manager. They will try to fix the problem, but then will aggressively ask you to tell them that they're doing a good job. Stay away! read more

I went in with my mother in law to drive the ionic 5. She had rented one in California and has been interested in getting rid of her Mercedes e class for a while now. This is where we met Ben, or should I say didnt meet Ben. At no point did he introduce himself or greet us. I have never in my life watched such disrespectful behavior towards a customer. He barked out directions on the test drive and then was openly annoyed by our request to see other trim levels. He intentionally stood in the way as I was trying to walk around the car as if to we were in a power struggle. When my mother in law pointed out an accounting error when we were looking at the rebate pricing (she works in finance) his insecurities overflowed and he took to raising his voice at her and pounding his pointer finger into the desk while stating in so many words that she didn't get it and implying that she was dumb. This final emotional outburst caused my mother in law to calmly walk out. She's still interested in the ionic 5 but not from there. If anyone knows anywhere better to look at this car please let me know. read more

I purchased a Genesis GV80 from Suburban Genesis/Hyundai in January of 2021. The sales process and staff were good and I left satisfied. Around December 15th 2021, I called the dealership to schedule routine maintenance and scheduled my service for January 3, 2022. I scheduled this some weeks in advance since I wanted to make use of the Genesis concierge service where they would pick the car up and leave me with a loaner car. I received almost immediately confirmation e-mails from the service advisor, Chris May, about my appointment for 10:00 a.m. on January 3, and also a separate e-mail saying that they would pick up my car and leave a loaner at 9:15. On December 27th I received a follow-up e-mail reminder of my January 3, appointment. On December 31, I received another follow-up email, this time saying that they realize things come up and thanking me for canceling my appointment on the 3rd of January. I definitely had NOT cancelled my appointment. On January 3rd, I called in the morning and could not get a real person to speak with in either service or sales. I do not live far from the dealership, so I drove over to find out want was going on. I drove into the service bay, spoke with an advisor, and was told that the dealership no longer serviced Genesis and had not been a Genesis dealer since August. I was speechless at this explanation. I thought I would give a call to the sales manager to find out if he had anything to say before I wrote this very poor review. I left a message, and the following day received a call back from an administrative assistant. She merely said that "of course we don't service Genesis any longer as of last August" I asked why they accepted an appointment for service then, and she merely said that was not her area and she had no idea. All I can say is that this is another example of the very poor operation of this dealership and I certainly would never recommend or deal with them again. I have rescheduled service with another dealership and they told me they have had similar reports from other owners. At least the dealership is consistent in poor service. I also called Genesis customer service and gave them this same information. I told them that if they really want to consider themselves a true luxury brand, they had better do a better job in managing their dealerships. It might help if Genesis would develop separate dealerships rather than being part of Hyundai. read more

This Hyundai dealership offers some of the worst customer service I've experienced while shopping for a car. I came in to inquire about purchasing a used car. They only had a few and the salesman pushed me towards a silver elantra. When I said I'd like to test drive the car, the salesman sighed and told me to wait. The salesman then got in the car with me and told me to drive. We literally drove around the block and I had to listen to his driving instructions. "Turn here". I immediately notified a squeaking sound in the breaks. When I asked the salesman about it, he said "that's normal". I may not know a ton about cars but I knew that wasn't a normal car sound. Suffice to say, I did not buy a car and would never buy a car from this dealership. read more

We had gone to Suburban Hyundai for service. Our son had purchased a used Hyundai from a dealer in Illinois. We discovered, on our way to MI while moving our son to the area, that the brake lights (all 3!) were not working. Here we were new to the area with an issue that had to be addressed as soon as possible. We were at Suburban Hyundia first thing in the morning, last Monday, to drop off the car. The service writer explained the diagnostic fee and explained a couple of things that could potentially be causing the issue. We were treated professionally and with respect. The job was done when promised and they provided us with a ride to and from the local mall where we shopped and had lunch. Let me start off by saying I did not purchase my Hyundai from this dealership. We have relocated from out of state and this is the closest dealership to our new home. I have been in contact with both the sales and service departments though and my experience has been less than favorable. SALES: I was only about 1/2 way into my lease and stopped in. I wanted an SUV for the upcoming Michigan winter and felt that AWD was a necessity. The Sales Manager came over and we chatted for a bit. He was quick to tell me that they would not be able to do anything about swapping me out of my lease early and into another vehicle. Not even an offer to look at my current vehicle and get a trade in value or discuss models with me. So we left. A few months later I had received an email from Suburban Hyundai about trade in values and willing to give me up to $X for my current vehicle and into a new one. So I promptly called the dealership between Christmas and the New Year. Talked to the Sales Manager again. Nothing, no offer to get me to come in and just told me that my payment would be no where near where it was before. I feel like they could not have been any less interested in my business. Obviously yes, no one likes higher payments, but the payment he mentioned was within my budget - though on the higher end of it. He clearly had a lack of interest. I had to ask HIM to reach out to me if they had any deals coming up. He didn't take my phone number or name down. Blatantly did not care about my business. SERVICE: My first service appointment was decent. I was in and out but learned quickly I needed to request a car wash with my LOF appointment. I appreciated the video walk around from my service technician to keep me up to date on recommended maintenance. I didn't love being signed up, nearly harassed, for their up-sell services though. I personally do not find a GDI Induction Service worth it on a leased vehicle nor do I really care for the BG product line. I then communicated with the Service Director, Chris Lange to get removed from those suggested recommendations. My next LOF was great. The Service Advisor I worked with was knowledgeable, friendly and he was newer to the role. I really enjoyed working with him and he made my visit great. After that I was driving and noticed one of my wiper blades was torn (not related to a service, this was weeks later) and I called up to the dealership. I kid you not, I needed to call the dealer 4 times to get a human on the phone to ask for a price for wiper blades. They kept transferring me to voicemails. I talked to a gentlemen, sadly I forget his name, and he was cocky to say the least. He wanted to get upset because when he asked "are we putting these on or do you got it?" I told him I was more than capable being in the car business myself. He told me "well, if I have to guess around $20 a blade." .... excuse me? Is it that hard to look up the cost of a wiper blade? Based off his "guess" and lack of willingness to provide me with an accurate cost, I ended up getting them elsewhere .... and put them on myself in 2 minutes. When the time comes in a year, I will not be going to Suburban Hyundai and will gladly turn my vehicle into them at lease end and will be leaving the Hyundai brand all together. In addition, I will avoid the Suburban family dealerships as well as I have visited a few of their other stores and I don't get any good feelings working with them. While I do not expect to be treated with kid gloves, I prefer to give my loyalty to companies that appreciate customers, are honest and do not act like you are wasting their time. I do not feel like I get that from Suburban Hyundai. read more

Recently purchased a used 2014 Forrester XT from Michael. Besides having front tire low that made it pull slightly left. The oil dip stick showed nearly a quart OVER filled! No biggy, it ran great. The problem came when I got the title in the mail. It did not have the bank's name as the lean holder?? ​After reaching out to my salesman. His suggestion was that I make an appointment at the secretary of state, stand in line, take time out of my day to get the title corrected. After I was reminded by my bank that I had paid for paper and title work for the dealership to do correctly at a charge of nearly $300. Now it seems they don't have any of the original paperwork and needed me to fill out a new RD 104. This paper work and title work should of been a no brainer. They try to blame me for not telling them, that was in black and white on paperwork and the Check they received. 2 months and still waiting on corrected title. read more

Took them up on their $40 Amazon offer to test drive a car. Waited around for someone for about ten minutes before Jody finally approached me. He offered to help. First Santa Fe (the one we might have bought) didn't have any gas in it, so we drove another one that hadn't been cleaned since someone used it (it had 115 miles, so someone drove it home at one point). The Santa Fe was surprisingly clunky. Tried to load my Amazon certificate and found out it is an invalid code! Called to ask about it and Jody told me they don't know how it works since it's a third party program. Told me he doesn't know what to do about it. I figured out what to do--for $40 I'll buy my $40,000 vehicle somewhere else! Disappointing. read more

I did not purchase my vehicle at this dealership and I ignored the terrible reviews. That won't happen again. The service departments customer service deserves negative stars. Long story short - I took my car in for an 8am appointment. Was told it would be completed same day. This was a Friday, being stuck without a car would not work for me. I called at 2pm - the car had not been looked at yet. Called at 4pm and was told the service department was on the phone but would call me back shortly. Called at 4:50pm and was again told the service department was on the phone and I would get a call back shortly. I waited until 5:30pm and NO CALL. I went to the dealership and arrived at 5:55pm. They close at 6pm. When I said what car I was there to pick up, I saw confused and shocked looks. The advisor went into another offer and after several minutes of whispers, I see the advisor heading out the back to the lot. About 5 minutes later he returns with my car washed and says give me a couple of minutes and I will get everything in the computer. I then said, can you tell me if my car was looked at? If there was a problem was it fixed? The advisor then read scribbled notes to me, which I hear him whispering about in the office next door. Nothing is wrong with the vehicle. Blah, Blah, Blah, Its normal. We did this test and that. I then waited 10 minutes for him to enter all of that in the computer. I asked why I called 3 times and nobody called me all day and had I not just come up, they would have closed leaving me with no car? Yeah, sorry about that. Once given the keys, I asked if the checked the cabin air filter like I asked and he said he didn't think so. So, I waited while he checked that. I was then instructed to bring the car back in if I think its still not right and they have to "Really" look at it and don't worry, I have a good warranty. I have a feeling that my car was never even looked at. The kicker to all of this... I reach out to the service director 3 days ago and STILL HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. Despite the numerous bad reviews (which worried me before I stopped in), I actually had a very good experience leasing a 2020 Sonata Limited here. This is my third Sonata Limited lease -- all with other dealerships -- so I know the drill. Ben Sliwinski went above and beyond in terms of patience, clear and extensive explanations, suggestions, and even drove to Lansing to get one in the color I wanted because they didn't have one on their lot. Sales manager, Jeff, was also very helpful. There weren't many other customers to compete with, but I appreciated the time they were willing to spend with me while I waffled and test drove three different versions of the Sonata until I got the one I really wanted. Perhaps I was just lucky, maybe because business was slow I was treated better, I can't say. I would say these guys aren't particularly bubbly; more on the "keeping it real" vibe, which is fine as long as things are on the up and up, straight forward, and competently handled -- and I believe they were. I don't know anything about the service department, but my experience with sales was remarkably good. read more

Given my leased car (never again) reached the end of its term, I was on the market for a new vehicle in the compact to mid-size range. Hyundai's generous 100,000 mi/10 year warranty and excellent overall performance through reliable sources put either the Elantra or the Sonata near the top of my 'must try' list. Having a good idea of where I wanted to land, price and model-wise, I hied up to the nearest Hyundai in my Woodward era neck of the woods. Previous Hyundai dealership experiences elsewhere in Canada and the US rubbed off well on me. I've had courteous, no pressure car-buying experiences at the Hyundai dealerships in Vancouver, B.C. that set an expectation Suburban simply did not reach. Maybe showing up on a cold, snowy evening when their extended hours play out late didn't help. I stepped in and it took a few minutes for a salesperson to slide over and offer to help. If his nameplate didn't say sales on it, he could have been some poor service tech pulled onto the floor. He gave off a generally disinterested, hurried vibe despite there being a few customers at most inside. I'm not sure this was Jeff, because to be quite honest he sort of evaporated from my memory except for being so terribly uninterested in earning any money from me. Really, this is a car dealership! We went over the typical questions for a new car purchase: what are you looking for, what features are must-haves, and so forth. He half-heartedly prodded at the Hyundai website while I kept the same model information loaded on my phone, and he barely sold any features about the vehicle at all. What matters to me? Safety, performance balanced by availability of certain key features, like heated seats. (A must in Michigan!) I wasn't told what trim levels had these features and he initially pointed me at the bottom trim model, giving no confirmation anything I wanted was actually available. Coming as an informed consumer is good -- if you know the trimline of the vehicle has what you need standard, great -- but he was tossing around random details and spartan facts in a way I wasn't sure, and that was with Hyundai's own site available to me. After ten minutes of fruitless poking away at a monitor, he finally asked if I wanted a test drive. I asked for a sport model and proceeded to wait 15 minutes before I got in the car. Doing a walkaround, I paid half a mind to him chattering at me, mostly about the Suburban route. Giving credit to the auto mall, the swoopy serpentine streets give some great opportunities to see the car's performance test driving without being on an autobahn. Nice stuff. But then the guy gets in the back. What? I'm not 21. I do not want the sales guy in the back of the car while I test drive it. Not only is adjusting to all the new bells and whistles on a vehicle I have not experienced before a bit anxiety-ridden, but having someone I don't know watching my every move heightens the effect by twenty. Fine. I got started and headed out, mindful of the miserable winter weather, and started listening and feeling for the vehicle. In retrospect, I should've said leave. He pretty much lurked four inches from my headrest and chattered nonstop. My salesperson would not cease the running stream of commentary the entire ride. I turned on the radio and he kept talking. I increased the volume and he remained talking, generally about how the car was best at this and superior at that, details better suited when he was gathering info from me at the desk. Not while I'm trying to concentrate on merging up Coolidge or navigating through a neighbourhood street to feel for grip on the tires, engine revving, and the transmission. UGH! I cut short my test drive, parked the car, and gave up on trying out the other model I was interested in. VERDICT: 1.5 stars. Nice selection but an awful car-buying experience. Leased a 2017 Santa Fe from them and went for my first service/oil change. Turns out there was a service recall which they took care of. Very reasonable place - coffee, water, rest room, all clean. They do have a little corner for the tykes if they happen to tag along. Plenty of reading material in the customer lounge. So far so good, will update when it is time to do the second, third service/tire rotation etc for a full report. read more

One of the most unprofessional and terrible experiences at any dealership ever. My first issue comes from the representative we had "help" us. I had come with my mother to discuss buying a new car. With model and year in mind, I had expected the experience to be painless. The representative however, refused to address me and when he answered my questions he would direct his words to my mother. When we requested to test drive, he asked for a valid driver's license. When I handed him mine, he said he needed the license of the person who plans to purchase the car. After the test drive, we came back to demeaning comments on our planned price range of $20,000 and a general lack of concern in his demeanor. All in all very unprofessional and very irritating. I will never return to this location and after this interaction I might rethink my consideration of purchasing from this brand. Went to the parts department to look up a interior trim piece for my Hyundai and a Indian gentleman didn't even acknowledge me when I walked in and didn't say a word to me for 10 minutes. I was just waiting for him to finish when he was doing. When he was finally finished, I proceeded to show him a picture of what I was looking for, he immediately told me no they don't sell it and that I was out of luck, I had to tell him I had previously looked it up with another parts advisor and it was the correct one and he still told me no they don't sell it... reluctantly he finally found the right part after telling him look up the part schematic. He went on to say that it was a special order for a rubber interior trim piece which I was ok with having to repay a restocking fee if it was the wrong part. I told him I have a EIN (employer identification number) for my business and he said he has to talk to the accountant to see if they do that sort of thing, zero dealerships have to talk to a accountant. I have 10 dealers that I do business with and give a little discount for parts. I told him forget it and I'm taking my business somewhere else. Extremely rude and unprofessional service and being a business owner myself I would fire this guy since he is zero help and has zero customer service experience.
