I made the mistake of purchasing a Clubman Mini about 10 years ago from this dealership. Back then I encountered horrible service. Fast forward, to now. I had heard the dealership has improved, new ownership etc.... I made the second mistake of trying to purchase another Mini. Luckily the rude unprofessional sales team, and the absent Canadian ownership team cares nothing about good quality and friendly service. Just coming back for a review refresh. Just got my baby back from service and, as unbelievable as it might sound, the experience was even better than last time. They've been crazy busy, parts are taking forever to get... I can't imaging being in the business right now. My car was there for longer than I think I've ever had to leave a car for service, but they were thorough and precise about the repair, making sure they found the exact parts that were responsible for a persistent squeak in my front suspension. They also knocked out some scheduled maintenance items and swapped out all my juices. Here's the thing: Yes, they did a great job but the entire experience is really about the team and I feel like this team - this group of people - is perfect. They're all the sweetest folks individually but together... They're just hell bent on doing their best and it shows in every interaction. To upper-management: Don't change a thing! I mean, you can give them raises or whatever, that's fine, but don't shuffle these folks. I'd be devastated if I lost any one of them! Thanx guys. Again. :-) read more

Purchased an oil change package. Called back twice, but nobody could tell me whether or not I had any oil changes left on the package. Transferred to the service department, the voice mail of which was full, and to an "advisor" whose voicemail said they were on vacation. I didn't buy Mini from this dealership, so my review is just on Service Department. This is the worst service department I've had to deal with regarding any vehicle I've ever owned. The service advisor Chris, doesn't follow up or follow through with what he should be doing, the techs are questionable as I've had several electrical glitches that are known in Minis, but they can't seem to find the solution, and their pricing is outrageous. I don't mind paying high prices, but I want a competent service advisor that follows up and follows through, and I want the electrical issues I'm having solved. Also, you are suppose to get a free exterior car wash with your service visits. I've had two visits and nothing. One more lesson learned, don't buy a vehicle or use a dealership that doesn't have its own body shop. If you have a scratch or ding you want removed, you will have to wait until they may have a third party individual at the dealership. My advice..keep Motoring to a different Mini dealership. read more

I LOVE my MINI. Best decision ever. Kind of a curiosity for years knowing about the great craftsmanship, history and uniqueness. I was fortunate to be in a position to need something I otherwise would have considered an indulgence...so that was great leverage for me to pursuit a Mini. The turbo is amazing! There use to be a few mini dealerships in Michigan. It's kinda of inconvenient that there is only one left. That being said. I had brought my Mini there for an oil leak and they fixed that but the parts and labor for fixing anything on the Minis are crazy expensive and a lot of it are things that you can't do yourself. After getting the oil leak fixed the stupid bald guy that works there told me my car was a safety hazard and needed all this other stuff on it fixed. driving back on the freeway my whole car just shook on the way home. My car literally came back in a worse condition then when I had brought it there. I called and the stupid bald guy had the nerve to yell at me and work up an attitude. I sold my Mini the next month. Never again. Terrible customer service , insanely pricy , and expensive to maintain. read more

To whom it may concern my name is J. Wheeler; I thought long and hard on if I should leave a review/complaint regarding my recent buying experience at Motor City Mini in Southfield MI, but I feel that it needs to be shared. The week of May 17th I called the Dealer about a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali that was listed for sale. I spoke to a young man named Naseem who would become my salesman. Coming from Flint MI, I didn't want to waste a trip, so I asked several questions about the vehicle's mechanical and physical condition. Naseem informed me that the vehicle was an "11 out of 10," adding that there were several people lined up to look at the vehicle, but he would give me first choice. I scheduled a test drive. Upon arrival, I test drove the car for approx. 35 minutes to ensure that it was mechanically sound. While doing so, Naseem called on my cell and advised that their were others interested in the car. I wanted to give the car an opportunity to warm up which often reveals issues, but I cut my test drive short, and returned to the Dealer. We eventually scheduled to sign the contract and pick up the car on Saturday the 19th when my wife would be available. It should be noted that I did not purchase a warranty for the car which was a BIG MISTAKE! Approximately 30 miles into the return trip home, I noticed the car's engine would studder as I accelerated from traffic lights. This studder would occur around 1800 rpms under light throttle. I attributed it to bad/old spark plugs or fuel. By this time the Dealership was closed. The next day, Sunday the 20th, I changed the front rotors and brake pads. I also changed the spark plugs hoping that the studder would stop, but there was no change. I then pulled the Throttle body and cleaned it. No change. I changed the Purge Solenoid. No change. Later that week I had the transmission fluid changed. No change. I changed all of the Ignition Coils. No change. Frustrated with my progress, I parked the car. On May 24th, I sent Naseem a text message to call me, I also left a message for Mr. Pierce the financial officer as well. Frustrated with the condition of the car, I took it to Applegate Chevrolet to have it looked over. On May 30th, they called and informed me that the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $5900! I paid the $140 diagnostic fee, and took the car home. I left a 2nd message with Naseem on the 30th. He eventually called back and was advised of my troubles. He reminded me that the car was sold "AS IS," and there was nothing he could do. I asked to speak to the manager, and was advised that he was not available, but he would inform him of my issues. As of June 22nd I have not been contacted. It should be noted that on the 30th, Naseem referred me to a friend in the Dearborn area who owned a transmission shop. I contacted that person, and on May 31st I drove the car 60 miles to Dearborn and dropped it off. The owner called me the next day and advised that the car's transmission was NOT the problem, but his scanner revealed a "mis-fire" on cylinders #1 and #2. On Friday June 2nd I brought the car home. I was able to have a friend scan the car for me a second time which revealed a mis-fire on cylinder #2 this is usually indicative of a bad/clogged fuel injector. On Saturday June 3rd, I took the car to Fast Eddies Oil Change and had a fuel injection cleaning. Again, no change. I was advised that I should consider changing out the #2 fuel injector because it was probably bad or clogged. On June 7th I pulled the intake manifold (for the 3rd time) and replaced injectors #1 and #2. No change. On June 14th I took the vehicle to Muffler Man repair shop, and on June 15th was contacted and advised that the problem was the Torque converter! I authorized the repair, and on June 26th I paid the $1953.89 and picked the car up. Problems solved! When I originally brought this issue to Naseem's attention, he shared that it wasn't his fault. I shared that I wasn't looking blame, only solutions. Resolution request; It's very hard for me to believe that the Dealer did not know that this vehicle had mechanical issues because I quickly discovered this on my way home right after purchasing it. I would love for this Dealer to make me whole regardless to the fact that I bought the car "AS IS" It just seems like good honest business, and that the Dealer actually put their customers first. To date, I have spent $3223.25 (using my own labor) not to mention my time, and missed work. This is all before my first car payment! With regret, J Wheeler read more

Dont waste your time or money and buy elsewhere! Customer service has been so obsurd that I was forced to leave my first review ever! Purchased a 500.00 part from Motor City MINI and paid for expedited shipping since the car was inoperable and needed the part! PURE INCOMPETANCE: to save 50 cents on a proper shipping box, the part was thrown in a paper-thin cardboard box which resulted in a broken part being delivered! After repeated calls and emails, I was assured that a replacement part would be overnighted once the part is available. For a week straight, I followed up with parts department and every time was assured that the part would be sent overnight! Not even a shipment notification; had to waste time yet again and call them, only to find out that the part was finally shipped ground and wont arrive for another week! Car has been garaged for more thanb3 weeks now, just because the clowns at MC Mini cannot get shipping right! Save yourself the headache, time and money, pay a few bucks extra if you have to and buy elsewhere! read more

I went there twice. I was very disappointed the second time. First time parts were $29 labor was over $700 total over $769 months paid. The second time was the worse. My car was towed 2' ft. out of mud to my side walk. The tow company and mini store manager agreed the tow company did damage with improper tow My price and damage went from me being told I needed a new flex pipe to a complete exhaust a $2700 plus. Midas repair $250. I felt really treated very bad with the first experience but the second made me feel exceptionally bad as a black gay senior. And I'm being very nice! I'll never return. read more

The week of November 5th, the sensor in my car went off indicating I needed brake repair. I brought my car in to Motor City Mini (where I bought the car and where I have had all maintenance done) for service on November 13th. Chris Sadowski, my service person told me that I needed new front brakes and that I didn't yet need new rear brakes but that would be forthcoming. On November 20th the sensor light went on again indicating I needed brake repair. I called on November 21st and brought it in right then. Chris said to bring it back in the morning. I brought the car back on November 22nd (day before Thanksgiving) and got a free loaner. Having not heard anything, I called on November 29th and talked to a different service person who said they were waiting on a part from Germany. This seemed strange as I had not authorized service yet. I called on December 1st and talked to Chris who said they were still waiting for a part, a new sensor to see if that was the problem. He said it'd probably be in on the 4th or 5th. Later in the week, on the 7th or so, Chris called to say that the sensor was correct and that I needed new brakes. I authorized the repair. On December 14th, 22 days after I brought my vehicle in, the repair was accomplished and I picked up the car. A few concluding thoughts: The communication from Motor City Mini was terrible. I had to reach out to find out what was going on a week after I brought the car in (granted it was closed for one holiday in that stretch). One week after I was told (with numbers/fractions) why I didn't need all brakes repaired, the brakes needed repairing. How did Motor City Mini miss this when the car was there for the first time? Last, while I appreciate that you gave me a loaner and understand you were waiting on a part from Germany, the amount of time it took seems very unreasonable. Also, when I consider that Motor City Mini had the expense of the loaner it gave me (for three weeks!), I'm left thinking that this inefficiency adds to the overall costs of all of your repairs. I appreciate having my car back, and had been satisfied with Motor City Mini before, but this episode was truly troubling. read more

As MINI owners know, getting your MINI repaired is never cheap. While this visit was an expensive one, the service I received was amazing. Communication from Melvin was very much appreciated, he kept me informed of everything. I had to pick up my car late in the evening, I have over an hour drive to get to Motor City MINI, and rush hour traffic was no joke! but Ilya and Candace had a smile on their face and helped me get check out in a timely matter. Oil change negligence. On July 6, 2023 I had an oil change and other services performed at Motor City Mini located in Southfield Mi. After completing the requested services, the service tech drove my 4 dr. Mini Cooper out of the shop to deliver the car to me. While the service tech was driving the car my Mini lost 3 quarts of oil. Motor City Mini has a large window between the waiting room and the service bay. Through that window, I witnessed puddles of oil on  the floor of service bay leading from the service location for my car to the exterior car door and then 3 service techs pushing my car from the outside of building back into the service bay that it had just left. I immediately went to my service advisor and asked what had happened. He went into the service bay and reported back to me that the service tech failed to properly tighten the oil filter causing the oil loss. I asked that the oil loss and its cause be stated in my invoice and vehicle report. My mini holds 4.4 quarts of oil. The report stated the vehicle lost 3 quarts of oil. Having always heard that operating a vehicle with low oil can cause engine failure and/or future engine problems, I asked that the dealership provide me with some form of warranty or guarantee. The dealership offered to sell me an extended warranty for $1400.00.  I refused, but I offered to pay half of that amount. The dealership refused to accept my offer. Mistakes can and do happen. But...you can learn a lot about a company by how they deal with the aftermath of their mistakes. Motor City Mini wants me to pay for THEIR mistake. read more

Bought my first Mini Cooper from here about 10 days ago. Everyone at the dealership were super nice and helpful. Roland took me on a test drive for 3 different Minis. I told him what I was looking for and my price range and we were able to find something that fit my budget. Ryan helped finish the deal as Roland went out of town but they all answered any questions and there was no BS when it came time to sign the paperwork. The manager (can't remember his name) even sat in the car with me for 10-15 min to show me some of the controls. Highly recommend them! read more

After relocating from Philadelphia to the Detroit Metro, I needed a place to service my '03 Mini Cooper S. I put hard miles on my Mini driving it between MI and PA, she sometimes takes quite a beating. I was stoked to learn there was a Mini dealership within an hours drive of my new residence! I should have been warned that when a Mini dealership is attached to a BMW dealership, I should have expected BMW prices for the service. Not cool. I drive a Mini not a BMW X6. The service department is nice, but I've only worked with Ryan, he gets a star on his own. He follows up and makes sure everything is in order after service. It's great that they can offer you a Mini to drive while your car is being serviced. But if the service car isn't available (never was for me), plan to camp out for awhile. Free WiFi and coffee can help to kill the time. My gear shift knob was replaced. No mention as to why. I inquired about it the next time I went in for an oil change, there was no note of it in my record. But I still have the original in my glove box - I assume it was broken off. And by assume, I mean I know it was. But they replaced it with no charge - just wish I would have been informed of this before driving off the lot realizing the change. They have relocated to a new location where I hear they are a stand alone dealership - no BMWs hanging out behind you in the waiting room. The new locale is also a lot closer to my place of employment, so I might have to check them out new time I need a service of some sort. Or next time I hit the lotto. read more

Just a quick update to say... that as I am on my second Mini - a 2013 Cooper S - the location is definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet. Everyone in Service is extremely patient with my many many questions and they even taught me how to check the oil back in the day (not a talent I previously possessed). Super nice people - and super cute cars - and mine has so far gallantly withstood the Polar Vortex of 2014 and a string of bad luck brought on my careless drivers in parking lots! I just recently took delivery of my 3rd MINI from Motor City MINI - and it once again was an awesome buying experience. My first was back in Eastpointe back in 2003, next was in Rochester Hills in 2012, and now I've returned again (2015) to their Southfield location. Katie was my Motoring Advisor and helped me through the process of getting the ultimate MINI. I was interested in quite a few different options, and colors - and Katie arranged for me to check out and compare everything I wanted to see, and setup test drives in multiple cars that had the various features I wanted. Katie answered all of my questions, and demonstrated many of the new features and options - since quite a bit had changed in terms of designs and features since the previous model I had owned. While waiting for my MINI to arrive to the dealership - Katie kept me informed and up to date through the whole process. When it arrived - it was close to a time when I was scheduled to be traveling - and Katie made sure the car was prepared and ready before I had to leave town. The delivery went very smooth - and Katie took time to show me the various technology / infotainment features and get things like Bluetooth connectivity all setup with me. The entire sales process was very smooth, and I definitely recommend Katie and the entire team at Motor City MINI. Besides the actual sales process - I've also dealt with the service & parts departments and had similar great service experiences. 5 Stars all around! read more

I paid w/ tax & fees upfront $16,100. Why is the residual value 18,900! No sound explanation, then they say we gave you a $2,000 discount. Yeah, right, after changing the MSRP numbers. read more

Motor City Mini's service department will always try to reach the bottom of your pockets as they continuously try to up-sell you to a repair or part replacement that you really don't need. Our most recent visit they tried to tell us we needed brakes (front and back) when we'd just had them done about 6 months ago. Mini owners beware! Sure, they're nice and treat you kindly but I'd prefer a service department that doesn't try to fleece you on every visit. read more

We built our own custom vehicle and was told it would take 8-10 weeks. 4 weeks later we got a call that the car was done and in the lot!! I have visited this dealer both as a freind if a mini owner as well as an owner myself. The first experience was with a freind who found out the mini she had purchased was in not so many words a bag of worms. The dealer was amazingly supportive and would not allow my freind to drive an unsafe car. She was given many options and walked away feeling better about the things that had happened. About two months later I found myself in the same place. I purchased a used mini that turned out to be a lemon of sorts. The staff remembered me from the experience with my freind and helped me along the way. The service department staff gave me all the options and in the end I had to scrap the mini I had originally purchased do to a lack of caring from the former owner. Yes your thinking two bad experiences why go back. I will tell you why. I have never in my life had a dealer who cares about the cars and the costumers so much. They supported me through all the things that had to be handled and in the end I purchased a new to me mini from them. Long story short: if you are tired of car service with out any real service stop in and check them out. They treat customers like family and the cars with as much respect as a loved family pet. Talk about a fun car buying experience! We went to visit Roland at Motor City Mini just to see what the new Mini convertible was all about. He and the rest of the staff were friendly and knowledgable and spent the entire afternoon showing my husband and I the Mini line and explaining the Motor City Mini philosophy. I generally don't enjoy car shopping but Roland and his team made the experience so much fun. They also worked with us to get me into a beautiful 2019 Mini S convertable. Yay! I just bought a new customized mini from Motor City MINI, Richard Martinelli provided great service and communication during the order period. I'm very satisfied with his service. But I don't like the finance guy. He did not offer the lowest rate at first, even it is already posted on the MINI website as a promotion. Also, he had my husband and my perfect credit score in hand. He did not offer the 1.9% until I asked and pointed it out on Mini's website. It is very hard to forget the unhappy moment. And this make the whole car purchasing experience not that perfect! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Brought car in and was never informed that minis check engine light goes on when the gas cap is bad or just not on right even after the gas cap warning message goes off. Did anyone in service bother to inform me of that? Of course not because then they couldn't charge $230 to replace a $30 gas cap. Take your car to mini of Ann Arbor they actually care about their customers and do try to tape them financially. Second visit to motor city mini in less than 30 days and $800 in repairs for $400 worth of work. And let's not forget to mention horrible service provided by Mandie who loves to talk over her customers as if she is your boss or you owe her money. She needs customer Service 101 training. If you ever had a bad experience for service at a dealership, then you probably went to the Motor City Mini Cooper dealership on Telegraph Road in Southfield. Every time you take your car in you get it back worse. Every time you call you get a different excuse as to why your still having problems. The latest issue was a steering wheel issue. It's so hard to steer you exhaust your arms going to the store. We were told it is due to a part that went bad and for $400 they would fix it. Not only did we get the car back with the same steering problem but now the steering wheel is no longer centered. Now I'm told it's due to ball joint problems and other issues that have nothing to do with steering. I will spend $2400 to find the car the same as when I brought it in. While your there you will hear other people coming in complaining and going through similar frustrations and being treated rudely too. Love the car, hate the service at the dealership. read more

I bought a new Mini from this dealer 10 years ago. It was delivered with a large, unrepairable dent in the rocker panel. First they tried to blame me (I didn't notice it until I was home.) Then they offered me $500. I would rather have returned the car and gotten one without a dent... I hadn't driven the car much since 2010 since a family member had been driving it. I needed some service so I brought it in for an estimate. First thing is they managed to run up a $400+ bill for an oil change and a diagnostic. Things like 1/2 hour to tell me my AC was not blowing very cold. 1/2 hour to tell me I needed a new clutch. At $100+ per hour, it added up. I've owned probably 50 cars, and this is the most I've ever been charged for an diagnosis. Anyway, the estimate I got was about 2 1/2 times higher than I expected. I pulled the car and took it to an independent who did the same work for about 40% of the price I was quoted here - and that was using factory parts, no corners cut, etc. I'm an adult man, who knows a lot about cars, and could have fixed this one myself if I had the time and a lift. And they still threw this ridiculous quote at me. I can only imagine what they do to people who don't know anything about cars. I still love the car, but I will drive to Ann Arbor (1 hour drive) to avoid this place. I would not recommend coming here for repairs. On the other hand, it is a super cool looking dealership with a comfortable waiting area and they seem to have a really nice sales staff. It's a fun place to visit just not for repairs.... read more
