    After the service was done

    I feel as though I need to share as it's left me feeling swindled after my Outback was in their shop for over 3 weeks. Originally on March 19th, 2024 I had brought my 2012 Outback in for service. I advised Jordan of a water sound coming from the dash. He informed me that the technician would test the system and if there was any issue (including head gaskets) they would be able to diagnose it and get word back to me. I let him know before leaving I tried burping it myself and where I thought the problem might be on front driver side (which turned out to be exactly where it was originating from). Fast forward to March 27,2024 I was given the vehicle back with these notes: "Technician performed cooling system leak test-states no leaks at this time-technician tested headgaskets and vehicle staying at operating temperature. Technician found air in cooling system-technician burped system to correct clients concern. Road tested to verify repairs. Complete. (39 - Nick *****- M284555)" While picking up the vehicle I had noticed coolant on the lower engine cover but was told that was due to having the system burped - then drove home with no issue (5 miles). On March 29th, 2024 I needed to help my father move a storage unit and drove 35 miles there and back to get it done. Half way home my engine dash light came on due to overheating and had to tow it 15 miles back home. I returned the Outback to Hodges 2 days later and was told by Jordan there were blown welds on the radiator, and that the head gaskets have now failed. The repairs to try to undo what was done start at $3000 and would increase as they found more things wrong. Asked about the pressure test and how that would of failed on blown welds? After that he let me know he had miscommunicated in the email and there were not blown welds on the radiator and that this was due to a head gasket failure the whole time. I'm not sure how all of this this would have gone unnoticed with the tests that were performed according to the notes 2 days prior. Especially when a head gasket test was specifically outlined in the work order. After speaking with the service manager Greg I was told there was nothing he could do and that this has now gone from a $500 repair to now a new engine is needed. After I had admittedly lost my temper and started leaving - was approached by Jordan and was told I needed to remove my vehicle right away or they would have in impounded. Luckily I was able to talk to Greg (basically forced to shake his hand) again and have it picked up the next day. They understand they have you at their advantage and it absolutely shows. If this was all found on the original diag it wouldn't be so personal - but the way this was handled was borderline criminal. I'd advise if you do decide to come here to document absolutely everything. I'm now looking at a new engine and maybe some time in small claims once I get the invoice for the new engine.     This was probably the next experience I've had buying a car. I worked with John G and Jeff and both are super professional and personable. John took a lot of time going through the three vehicles I was interested in and understood I was comparing different options. He followed up without being overbearing or pushy, which is so appreciated. I ended up going with a certified pre-owned 2017 Forester and I LOVE it. John collected all the information needed so going in to complete everything was super smooth and quick.

    Was promised that the vehicle I purchased was in immaculate condition and nothing was wrong with it. I asked many questions about the vehicle and was lied to by the salesperson. I was told that I could bring the vehicle back as soon as I get my title in the mail. The sales person then changed her mind days later. This dealership is in violation of the Michigan consumer protection act. Even if a vehicle is sold as is, if the sales person or dealership misrepresent or lie about something you ask, they are liable still. That is the exception to the "as is" rule, And yes, I have documentation/proof of this as well. I left a voicemail for the supervisor today. This has been going on for a week now. (Within half an hour after driving the vehicle off the lot, I was having problems.) The dealership would not even carry out their own wheel and tire plan which they sold! I have taken it twice within a week. Very unhappy about this. Update: I STILL have not received my full refund!!!

    Bewildered by the Communication Breakdown…read more I'm not in the habit of writing negative reviews. If you browse my google profile, you'll find countless positive ones for businesses across Detroit and its neighboring areas. But I feel compelled to share my experience here because I'm left completely confused by my recent transaction. I brought my 2016 Transit Connect in due to occasional issues with gear shifting while accelerating--especially on hills. The engine would rev, but the van wouldn't gain speed. Initially, the business offered a free diagnostic, which turned up nothing. So I scheduled a follow-up and dropped off the vehicle overnight. Two days later, they contacted me with a laundry list of issues that didn't align at all with my original complaint. They claimed the brakes were locking up, the parking brake felt engaged while moving, the wheel couldn't rotate, and that it was difficult to even get the van on their lift. They said they bled the brake line to release it and advised me to call my insurance company because repairs would run into the thousands. None of these issues had ever occurred prior to drop-off. Alarmed by the sudden and severe diagnosis, I asked them not to perform any work until I could see the vehicle myself. They insisted it was unsafe to drive and that I'd need to pay $100 just to pick it up. When I arrived, that fee mysteriously increased by $25. Frustrated, I paid and took my keys. Here's the kicker: once I got in and drove off, NONE of the issues they described were present. I made it from Ferndale back to Detroit with functioning brakes, freely turning wheels, and no signs of the chaos they painted over the phone. It felt like either a massive miscommunication or something far more concerning. After driving with intermittent transmission issues for years, this experience left me deeply disappointed--not just because no repairs were completed after a two-day wait, but because the proposed repairs didn't match reality. Spending money over misleading claims is enough for me to never return. I'll absolutely be sharing this story with others.
