Just a sample of the emails I get from them. Do not live here.
    Jennifer J.

My email was mistakenly given to them by a current tenant, and let me say that from all the hot water issues and other maintenance problems that I get emails about every day, this place is an overpriced dump. I live in Wichita, KS (and have for over thirty years) and have explained to the management that they have been given the wrong email address. However their incompetence shines through because it's been two years now. I can't just simply block them, because they have new email addresses they keep sending about their maintenance problems from. Seems like they rotate through management personnel like I go through toilet paper. Not a good sign if you want to live here. Another sign not to live here? The emails I get also includes payment confirmation from complex. The emails contain sensitive information about the tenant and their payment information. Information you do not want me, a random stranger from Wichita, KS to have. If this were to get in the hands of a sinister person, they could be capable of putting you in financial ruin. Do not live here. I will suggest you give Wichita, KS a try. Wichita is affordable and very family oriented. I currently live in a quiet, affluent suburb outside of town and pay less than what these dumps go for. I work part time for less than I probably should, and it's just me and my cat here. There is plenty of affordable post secondary schools, and many great employers that pay competitive wages. I'm just lazy and don't like working a lot of hours, and I live comfortably. You should strive for that kind of living. Do not live at Suburban Apartments.

They don't fix issues for paying tenants even where there's not a pandemic so why even bother sending this out

I think the pictures attached make the review pretty self explanatory. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Threatening to cut off maintenance and steal cars is pretty horrible. Especially considering they don't fix the problems that up-to-date renters have had since BEFORE the pandemic started.

STAY AWAY This place may seem great because it is so cheap but spare yourself frustration and find somewhere else to live. The area has frequent shootings and is full of crime. I lived here for 3 years as I was going to NIU and shortly after my first year here, maintenance had to rip out the kitchen area and bathroom in my studio because of a water problem in the unit above mine. They did minimum amount of work and left the place half completed for another year even though I frequently informed them it was not done (see photos). After I moved out of the studio into a 1 bedroom they had the audacity to take money out of my deposit to finish the job. After moving out of my 1 bedroom apartment they kept half my security deposit for painting and carpet cleaning even though I hung nothing from the walls, and the carpet/walls were as clean as when I moved in. They will shut off the water frequently through the year giving no notice. They do minimal landscaping. I also complained about someone below us smoking weed in the apartment and they actually defended the person who was smoking weed. There are also frequent weed smokers in the laundry rooms every day and the staff does nothing about it. The parking lots are full of pot holes and the water is a nasty yellow color so showering is disgusting. These people will rob your security deposit, offer no maintenance help, will not enforce any rules, and lie to your face. Please do not support these sleazy "business" owners and stay away!

Here is what the water looks like at LEAST 5 days out of a month.

If you ever have any questions or issues, the office staff is more than willing to assist and they're easy to work with. I had one issue with my water tank popping a hole at 5 am on a Sunday, called emergency maintenance and the employee was inside my apartment within 15 minutes to shut off the water and run to the store to replace the leaking piece. Hunter Star also brought in a contractor to clean out the water from the carpet for my apartment and the one below. The showroom apartments in the office are nearly identical to the actual buildings (a few minor, negligible differences). During winter, the staff work all hours to clear the lots of snow so residents can access vehicles in the morning. Apartments are located within walking distance of campus or near the university bus stops. Finally, the apartments are the best priced for the quality in the area. I spent months looking for a great deal and so far Hunter Star has proved to be worth it.

Just to make sure this is understood, I lived 2 years with Axiom echo park apartment, in those 2 years I had both heat went out in winter time and A/C went off in July, the lady in the office, Brittney as well, answered every time and actually seemed she cared, maintenance was there always within minutes to an hour and both times a part was broken, had to order it and then fix it, but, both times they took care of the issue by bringing heaters to my unit, 5 of them and I a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment, with Hunter is 3/3, and in the summer they showed up with air units and fans, not great, but at least I wasn't left to die like the Hunter lady has me here, not caring, if I was her boss, I would give her 1 chance to actually get her act together if that is not happening she should be fired.

As I am looking at other apartments I have noticed as with all reviews, they are only given when things have gone wrong. I want to change that. High Meadows Apartments is under management of a wonderful woman named Marty. She is very kind and loves to have personal chats with her residents. She is very quick to take care of any issues that come up and always does it with a smile. She truly cares about everyone here. If you're looking for a smaller apartment that feels like home close to Dekalb/Sycamore and NIU, this is the place to be! Thank you for a wonderful 3 years. (And no, this review is not paid for)

The income requirements on the lease agreements here are much less demanding than the six other properties I checked out in the NIU area. Ownership has recently changed and much so for the better. As soon as the new owner came in, a new fence was constructed which separates the train tracks from the apartments now giving it a rich new aesthetic in addition to greater security. Many units are at the moment being remodeled with new appliances and flooring (eventually all will be renovated). New Feldco windows are also being equipped for all units. Pros Very personable staff Location - It's on the west side edge of town, perfect for those who enjoy the country scenery, but also a stones throw from the NIU campus and downtown area. The back roads just west of the apartments are amazing for bicycle rides, walks, sunrises/sunsets, etc. I wish I could upload pictures. Rent - affordable rates for clean, quality apartments. My apartment has a brand new large refrigerator and brand new water heater. Laundry appliances are also available in each building for $1.25 wash and another $1.25 to dry. Available now are studios ($450/month) and 1 bedroom ($535/month). Water and heat included. Stove, heaters, and AC run on electric. My bill is usually $20/month WiFi - High Meadows does not at least for the moment supply free WiFi but there are networks aplenty! Pet friendly Quiet and friendly neighbors Balcony spaces available Cons Trains - I actually don't consider this a con but I'm guessing some or many people would. A number of freight trains run behind High Meadows all throughout the day and night. Sometimes every 15 minutes, sometimes not for every couple of hours. I think only some buildings are affected by this. My first night I found the noise to be so ridiculous that I couldn't help but laugh. They last up to a minute and a half and sometimes screech to a halt, but I NEVER lose any sleep over it. I got used to it immediately. Move here. -Ryan
