I've had Philly cheesesteaks from Submarine House before and I enjoyed them. So, I thought I would give their pizza a try. I ordered a 14" build your own pizza. I added pepperoni and black olives. Additionally, on one side I added bacon, and on the other side I added mushrooms. The pizza looked presentable but I had a hard time distinguishing one side from the other. The toppings did not appear to be distributed properly. Also, there was barely any bacon on it. I didn't like the crust. It had no real flavor and the texture was off. Finally, this was a very dry pizza and could have used more sauce. I've ordered pizzas in a lot of places in the area but this is one of the worst in my opinion. I guess if you want a pizza, best to stick with a pizza restaurant. This was not a good experience! Not recommended. read more

Cool new location. The new SMH has been in Kettering for a few years now... Really nice location and still the same great cheesesteaks. The service was really good too and they were busy when we stopped in... Sat at the bar and the bar tender was all over it. The only knock was they're definitely trying to cut corners with their cheesesteaks (presumably to save money because Ole Corn Pop has effed the U.S. economy like a Vegas hooker), as they didn't stuff the sandwich like they used to... It was obnoxiously loud in there and my 4 year old daughter, nor me or the other party, enjoyed that. We could barely hear one another over all the noise. TV's are on every square inch of the wall. The waitress was very polite, but service was very slow! We waited what seemed like an eternity to get our food. Which wouldn't be so bad if it was worth the wait-but it wasn't. Food portion for the sampler was extremely small-especially for the price and didn't provide much variety in the 3 options to choose from. Fries had an after taste-like they'd been frozen. Food taste overall we all agreed was lacking in flavor and wasn't anything worth returning for. Pizza was super greasy. We also felt we way overpaid for what we received. Overall the price we paid you would have thought we went to some fancy diner instead of a sub place. Also, we didn't realize till after we ordered from the main menu the waitress gave us that they had a limited time menu.. stashed where the drink menus usually are. Had I known I would have ordered two things off there.. They were out of paper towels in the women's restroom and no blow dryers to dry hands. read more

I did not expect this to be a sports bar type of restaurant. It made me think of BW3's but with sub sandwiches instead of chicken wings. The food was good and there were plenty of TVs to watch. When we visited it was seat yourself. We sat at a table and it did take a while for a server to take our order. It may have been their break time, but that can happen in the seat yourself format. On Saturday January 18, 2025 at 4:00 pm we ordered an Italian cheesesteak pizza. We picked it up and brought it home. When we opened it up we realized it was missing 1/2 the ingredients including the sauce. I called and they offered to credit me a pizza the next time I came in or remake the pizza. We chose the remake, but we had to drive back and pick it up. We got the new pizza, brought it home and started to eat it. It was terrible. I was lucky enough to be able to participate in Submarine House Kettering's soft opening a couple of times back in March. Let me preface this by saying that Submarine House is one of those Dayton restaurants with a cult following that I do not understand. It's overpriced and I've never had great food through dine in, carryout, or delivery, from various locations. I've given it multiple chances and I just don't get the hype. But I was more than willing to give a new location a try, and try some new things. Our first night was a Sunday night. It was busy! Every table was full, there were multiple managers and multiple employees manning every inch of the restaurant. It was loud. Didn't bother me, except that I couldn't hear the server at all. I eventually realized that it was the server and not the environment. She was extremely soft spoken and we had to ask her to repeat herself every time she came to the table and said something. It took us a while to get greeted initially. They were busy, but with the abundance of workers, it was painfully obvious when we were just sitting there, employees in every corner, but no one helping us. The server did not bring us silverware or appetizer plates. Even when the entrees came, we still didn't have silverware. There was a long lull in between the apps and entrees. There was no sugar caddy on the table, (lemonade was ordered). We were not given a check at the end of the meal, so we pulled up the menu on our phones to see what our bill would have been and to tip accordingly. The food was great, but the service was noticeably lacking. It wasn't terrible by any means, but issues were noticeable. I'm so glad that we went back for a second night, because Monday was a completely different experience! They were noticeably less busy. We sat a high top in the bar area. A server greeted us before I had even put my purse down. She wasn't even our server, but was letting us know that our server needed a minute and she was going to start us with drinks while we waited. Both she and our actual server were great! Very knowledgeable, friendly, easy to hear. We got silverware and app plates right away. At the end of the meal, we were given checks for our drinks and a check showing what our comped bill was. Food was great for the second night, and this time the service took a huge step up too! Tuesday we sat at the bar. Another busy night! Every table was full again, but it didn't look like they had as many employees working. Seems that the secret of being able to walk in without a reservation had gotten around to a few more people. More great service. Made friends with some fellow patrons. More great food! One of my friends made a comment that the food tasted so much better on new, clean equipment. Being a Submarine House doubter myself, I also enjoyed the food more than any other experience I've had at a Sub House. The food was always piping hot and fresh. Our orders were accurate. The staff was friendly and attentive, (with the exception of our first experience). The entire place is clean, open and inviting. They opened to the public on March 30th. I took some photos of the place for those who couldn't make it to the soft opening. Most of the seating is in the bar area. Lots of TVs throughout. They have a small patio with a fire pit that looks really nice and a garage door that opens to the inside. I think that will be a really nice area in the warmer months. No outside TVs though, (yet?). There are outlets under the bar to charge your phone, but no purse hooks. ‍ (I was told later that there were indeed purse hooks, but I couldn't find them. ‍) Overall, we had a couple of really great experiences. It's kind of bitter sweet, because now I know the standard that Sub House is capable of and what they can actually do when they're giving it 110%. I really hope that they continue to give great service and that the quality of food continues at this level after the newness of the restaurant wears off. Worst sub I've ever gotten here by far. Placed order for two subs to go. Waited 25 minutes before asking how much longer. Was told a bunch of door dash orders came in after us. I guess you prepare them first the way the girl acted. When they were finally finished, the waitress just threw them on the counter on her way by. Not a word. Upon returning home, found our subs were on stale bread, and didn't have enough filling to cover the bun. After eating at Submarine House for many years, this just totally shocked me. Especially when we were put behind DoorDash. Probably won't be coming back. Too many companies want my business. read more

I was so happy when I saw that this place was opening so close to my house . I've been here three times already . The food is excellent and we love to come here after firebird sporting events . Behind the bar Ally (not hallie) kept my beer cold and her smile lights up the room. I will be coming here a lot as long as the Fire birds keep on winning . Go Fairmont. read more

The new Submarine house in Kettering was a treat. It is in a great central location. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated at a roomy booth. Drew, our server,really made the experience. He took the time to explain the menu and had excellent food and drink recommendations. He recommended beverages which complimented the meal. He had extensive menu knowledge and was so friendly. We selected a few menu items including the appetizer sampler, the Big Luigi and the House 2 Pizza. The appetizer sampler included many fresh fried items, the best of which were the teezers, which are cheese and jalapeño filled tatertot bites. The Big Luigi delivered with all the meaty, sub flavors coming through. The pepper relish on the sandwich was fresh and delicious. Lastly was the House 2 pizza which had copious amounts of fresh cheese. We will definitely be back and excited to enjoy the experience again. read more

My friends and I ate dinner here tonight for the first time and were not impressed! They were featuring some specialty hamburgers. We each ordered one with some fries. The fries came out raw. The cheese sauce was like soup, so the fries were sent back and it took 30 minutes to get new fries at that point we had already ate our hamburgers. I ordered a turkey sandwich with chips. The girl behind the bar said she would go check to see if it is ready. After ten minutes she comes out and just ignores me and is in lala land drinking at the practically empty bar on her phone. I would have ordered a drink while I waited but she had been gone for ten minutes. I ask her soooo where is my food and she says she thinks someone else is getring it LOL. I ordered it almost an hour ago, so I say to cancel it. Nothing even needed to be cooked, just toasted. She is still in lala land and doesn't know how to. A nice lady says she will refund me and check on it. But then the dumb ass bartender is like "oh here it is, there you go." And picks up some bag of food that was sitting almost behind the bar that she has walked by already a few times that was there when I got there. As if I am the dumb ass who didn't bother to look behind her bar or check out orders. The nice lady refunded my money without me asking which is good because the sandwich had barely any meat, no mayo or cheese or olives i had requested and there was no side of dipping sauce for the five chips that I ordered and paid for. They always have a flakey bartender who has no business being behind a bar and when you look around people are always waiting for drinks at an empty horseshoe bar while they stare at their phone, without looking around so you can make eye contact and get another drink.
