Super friendly cashier, she was kind and attentive to everyone who came in. Love the clean, quiet atmosphere. It was a hot day and it felt nice to sit inside. It's minimal but all you need to enjoy your sandwich. It is nice to have a good sub shop downtown, sandwiches were fine. We all got turkey so it wasn't anything special. I recommend adding the oil and vinegar! I do wish they didn't charge for refills, especially since the soda fountain is self serve. A great little hidden gem tucked away in downtown Bakersfield with a reasonable amount of available street parking which is always nice when you're downtown. A quaint little sub shop with super friendly staff and fast service. Their subs are made fresh and are flavor packed! The resturant is very clean, including the outside patio, which gets plenty of shade in the afternoon. I didn't order their Tri-Tip Chili but I did sample it today, it was quite tasty with just a little kick! Strolled into Sub Station for a bite and man, was it a good call! It was my first time there, and the team member steered me towards one of the tastiest subs I've ever had. My coworker was a bit antsy about the wait, but once he caught a whiff of that freshly cooked bacon, he knew some things are worth the wait. Hands down, this spot knocks other sandwich joints out of the park. Highly recommend for a real-deal sub experience. I came in on a whim , I'm so happy I did . I tried the special which was tuna and avocado on sqaw I believe with chips and a drink . I have not been the Sub Station since I left high school many years ago. With that being said, I was downtown today and decided I would stop in for a sub to go. I don't think much has changed with this place, #5 ham and turkey with everything, side of cucumber salad. I got back to work and enjoyed that tasty sandwich. My only draw back was I wish I would of asked them to scoop a little bit of the bread out of the roll. Portions were good size, cucumber salad can be addicting and I hope to add this in to my lunch options. So I work a hop, skip, and (not even) a jump away from Sub Station on California/Stockdale. But I've only ever frequented Sub Station Downtown. Mostly due to the fact that Postmates only delivers from the DT location. I've ordered SS at least four time now through Postmates and I've NEVER been disappointed. Except for the one time they randomly canceled my order, but I figured they had closed or ran out of what I wanted or something. No hard feelings, SS! While I love trying out a menu, when it comes to sandwiches I tend to stay with what I like. The Sub #1 with Capacolla, Gallo Dry Salami, Pepperoni, Ham PLUS Avocado, Pyrenees Soft roll, Ghost Pepper Jack Cheese, Everything on it + toasted is absolutely magical. There's something about magical about it. But you absolutely must order it as I mentioned above. Anything less and you're not truly eating my favorite sandwich. I first ordered my magical creation with extra jalapenos. NOPE NOPE NOPE. That was just too much spice for a workday lunch. Even the boyfriend said it was too much. I do think though, that sometimes their Ghost Pepper cheese is a little tame. Other times It's downright devilish. Add in a side of Macaroni salad and/or Honey Sriracha chips and you'll be winning the rest of the afternoon. Note, the sandwiches are a little on the pricy side if you're looking at the menu ($8.50+) but they are really large and great quality. In fact, half of my sandwich will double as my dinner later. We order two specialty sandwiches total was $20 and some change and what we got was mostly bread one slice of bacon, soggy veggies, and a nasty vinegar dressing. Plus we waited about 20 minutes for our food which usually I would say is not a long wait time but we were the only costumers there and they were regular (not hot) subs. As a person who is employed downtown, finding lunch nearby is important. Sub Station downtown is within walking distance, and the staff is very friendly. Most importantly I've never had anything I didnt like here. I'm generally a #5 with no cheese and extra meat! Fresh bread, crisp veggies and special mustard with horse radish (Don't over do it! I've never been here before or heard of this place. I found them on yelp during a search for a new lunch place. I usually go to lunch before 10am (I start at 4am) so I was happy they were open. The man working was so friendly. I was the only person inside and he talked with me the entire time he was making my sandwich. I was in town for a funeral and Sub Station came highly recommended. I needed to feed 20 people for a memorial service and placed my order the day before the service. I walked in, sat down, started crying and a young lady came over and sat with me to take my order. I was a mess and she was so polite. Not only did they accommodate my order but I was given the owners number and was told to call him when I was ready to pick up the food. They closed at 3 but when I called, he was at the restaurant at 545 waiting for me. Not only is the customer service phenomenal, the food was as well. I ordered a platter of different sandwiches (everyone loved them) and a salad (great as well). NO food was left over. Paid around 15 dollars and waited close to 25 minutes for an absolutely sub-par "beef dip". Waited a long time while the employees danced and sang along to the radio and chatted instead of making my food, for a dry sandwich that was barely lukewarm, even though the menu said it was toasted. The bread my sandwich was made on tasted stale and hardened as I ate it, which means it was likely microwaved. There was about 5 pieces of meat on the sandwich, so what I got was mostly bread. The "au jus" that was served with the sandwich was also microwaved, so it tasted of freezer burn and had a terrible almost chocolate-y flavor (Im not a big fan of chocolate, so this wasn't my thing.) Got a large fountain drink (which costed $3.50... seriously??), the root beer I got had a weird a plasticky after taste, might need to change/ check the syrup. The only thing that worked were my bag of chips. Likely will not return-insane prices for extremely lackluster food. Seems this place is more of a hang out and is there for an aesthetic purpose, and are not really concerned about serving good food, or at least close to what you would expect for the prices they charge.
