Super friendly cashier, she was kind and attentive to everyone who came in. Love the clean, quiet atmosphere. It was a hot day and it felt nice to sit inside. It's minimal but all you need to enjoy your sandwich. It is nice to have a good sub shop downtown, sandwiches were fine. We all got turkey so it wasn't anything special. I recommend adding the oil and vinegar! I do wish they didn't charge for refills, especially since the soda fountain is self serve. So it's tempting to get more but there's a sign saying it's 50 cents for refills. read more

A great little hidden gem tucked away in downtown Bakersfield with a reasonable amount of available street parking which is always nice when you're downtown. A quaint little sub shop with super friendly staff and fast service. Their subs are made fresh and are flavor packed! The resturant is very clean, including the outside patio, which gets plenty of shade in the afternoon. I didn't order their Tri-Tip Chili but I did sample it today, it was quite tasty with just a little kick! I'm looking forward to returning soon to work my way down their list of speciality subs. read more

Strolled into Sub Station for a bite and man, was it a good call! It was my first time there, and the team member steered me towards one of the tastiest subs I've ever had. My coworker was a bit antsy about the wait, but once he caught a whiff of that freshly cooked bacon, he knew some things are worth the wait. Hands down, this spot knocks other sandwich joints out of the park. Highly recommend for a real-deal sub experience. Side note: Forgot which sub I ordered but I'm positive no matter no matter which 'wich I get it will he great! read more

The SubStation is a bit of a surprise. It doesn't look like nuch from the outside, but the quality of the service & food makes up for everything. The ONLY correction that should be made to this biz's Yelp page is that they actually OPEN at 10am on weekdays. The staff is very friendly, professional and my roast beef sandwich was GREAT! Reasonable prices, and very tasty cookies as well. read more

I came in on a whim , I'm so happy I did . I tried the special which was tuna and avocado on sqaw I believe with chips and a drink . Let me tell you I didn't know what to expect , but I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the sandwich. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. I feel sad that I haven't tried it sooner and will promptly make up for lost time by coming back any chance I get because these sandwiches are a gem.! read more

Staff was very nice and patient with our order, then got our food out quickly. I got a pretty basic ham & turkey sandwich, but it was actually quite delicious! Pyrenees bread was great and everything was well-seasoned and sauced, and left me wanting more. Which leads to the only reason why they don't get 5 stars. The sandwich was a bit small for the price. But, overall, looking forward to going back and trying some more adventurous options. read more

I have not been the Sub Station since I left high school many years ago. With that being said, I was downtown today and decided I would stop in for a sub to go. I don't think much has changed with this place, #5 ham and turkey with everything, side of cucumber salad. I got back to work and enjoyed that tasty sandwich. My only draw back was I wish I would of asked them to scoop a little bit of the bread out of the roll. Portions were good size, cucumber salad can be addicting and I hope to add this in to my lunch options. Friendly staff members, you could defiantly tell may of the customers were regulars as the employee behind the counter, new each person and what they were going to order. Look forward to a return visit soon. read more

Let me just start off by saying the environment, you want a downtown, local, vegan option, and old fashion but a modern place to eat. Sub station downtown, parking is easy and I don't have to worry about my car getting hit, the customer service is A1, the workers are so nice, caring, clean, and best overall attitudes. The store is clean, and have options of fountain drinks or bottles. You can sit down, do work or homework and it's so peaceful with the joyful music in the background. This place is overall the best place to have a nice lunch with the family or coworkers, or even bring yourself in, order and sit down. The workers will bring you your food and make sure you are all set and okay to eat. If you don't want to sit inside your can sit outside and enjoy the beautiful sunny day breeze. I wish I could do more than 5 stars. I will be back and I will bring other people with me! read more

2nd time I've ordered the sprouts veggie sandwich and they fail to put any sprouts in it! Don't want to be a Karen but damn For $10 you think they'd let you know they're out. When they get it right it's bomb my fav veggie sandwich in town but legit 3 out of the last 5 times they're out of the ingredients in the sandwich and don't offer a dollar off or anything. To be fair I ordered at the end of the day but still let me know! read more

Today was a good day.. Mondays usually are days I dread but Mondays at Sub Station are the best. Why? Today was Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese!!! Omg!!!! Its the most amazing creation ever! Comfort food at its finest. Creamy cheese, chunks of buffalo chicken, topped with blue cheese and celery. It doesn't get any better than this.... So I work a hop, skip, and (not even) a jump away from Sub Station on California/Stockdale. But I've only ever frequented Sub Station Downtown. Mostly due to the fact that Postmates only delivers from the DT location. I've ordered SS at least four time now through Postmates and I've NEVER been disappointed. Except for the one time they randomly canceled my order, but I figured they had closed or ran out of what I wanted or something. No hard feelings, SS! While I love trying out a menu, when it comes to sandwiches I tend to stay with what I like. The Sub #1 with Capacolla, Gallo Dry Salami, Pepperoni, Ham PLUS Avocado, Pyrenees Soft roll, Ghost Pepper Jack Cheese, Everything on it + toasted is absolutely magical. There's something about magical about it. But you absolutely must order it as I mentioned above. Anything less and you're not truly eating my favorite sandwich. I first ordered my magical creation with extra jalapenos. NOPE NOPE NOPE. That was just too much spice for a workday lunch. Even the boyfriend said it was too much. I do think though, that sometimes their Ghost Pepper cheese is a little tame. Other times It's downright devilish. Add in a side of Macaroni salad and/or Honey Sriracha chips and you'll be winning the rest of the afternoon. Note, the sandwiches are a little on the pricy side if you're looking at the menu ($8.50+) but they are really large and great quality. In fact, half of my sandwich will double as my dinner later. Definitely a great spot to patron for lunch. Or Postmates. read more

Disappointed. Only leaving two starts because I only leave one star when food is completely inedible. This was edible just not worth what you pay. Staff was nice. We order two specialty sandwiches total was $20 and some change and what we got was mostly bread one slice of bacon, soggy veggies, and a nasty vinegar dressing. Plus we waited about 20 minutes for our food which usually I would say is not a long wait time but we were the only costumers there and they were regular (not hot) subs. You could get better sandwiches at subway. read more

When people say they have never had a sub station sandwich, it breaks my heart! If you love subs, don't pass this place up! There are 2 sub stations in town, this location near the Fox theatre, seems to be the best in my opinion. The customer service here always blows my mind. It seems they want to get to know you! It's a very warm, friendly environment. As I sat an wait for my order, I couldn't help but notice that they love their loyal customers and know them by name. On top of having great customer service, the sandwiches are amazing and well constructed. They put oil and vinegar on them, and the bread is never soggy! They've perfected the art of the sub. Sub station has cold subs, hot subs, specialty subs, and veggie subs! Along with chips, potato, macaroni, and pasta salads. If you're like me, you'll appreciate that they have freshly brewed ice tea and fresh lemonade. If you come around lunch time, be prepared to circle around the block a few times to get a parking space as parking is limited. Sub station is popular amongst the downtown work crowds, so waiting for your order is common, especially if you order a hot sub. read more

As a person who is employed downtown, finding lunch nearby is important. Sub Station downtown is within walking distance, and the staff is very friendly. Most importantly I've never had anything I didnt like here. I'm generally a #5 with no cheese and extra meat! Fresh bread, crisp veggies and special mustard with horse radish (Don't over do it! It will burn your nasal passage! ) And THE best Rice Crispy Squares on the planet have earned my business and my 5 Stars! I have been coming to this downtown location for years. I used to absolutely love this place. Today I went in there right before closing. and there were 2 girls working and cleaning up. I didn't order a day old sandwich. I ordered a vegetarian with extra mayo. There was absolutely no mayo. Absolutely no Avacado and the bun was dryer then hell. This place has gone to hell. Our favorite sandwich shop. Very fresh ingredients, tea, lemonade, vegetarian, and meaty sandwiches. We LOVE number 28. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Clean. Clean. Clean. Extreme disappointment. Was referred here by a friend and thought I would try it since it was on Uber Eats on its rainy outside. I won't take her advice anymore! Just a very plain and boring sandwich. Too much bread. Dry bread. Like, I'm choking on all this dry bread. Their vinegar dressing is obnoxious and brown. Must be straight vinegar just was not what I was expecting, and not worth the price...was over $9.00! Will definitely stick to Jersey Mike's and Deli Delicious from now on! This used to be my favorite sandwich place in town but the quality has gone down. I got the deep pit sandwich. It was skimpy and lacked flavor. It's definitely not worth the price. Sprouts has way better made to order sandwiches for $5. Also I got there at 10:45am and there was no one there but I still didn't get my sandwich till 11:08. In my opinion that's a pretty long wait time considering there were no sandwiches ahead of me. read more

My favorite sandwich shop in town. Every sub is out of this works. The meats are very fresh and all sandwiches are served on fresh Pyrannese bread. The service is friendly and the sandwiches are made pretty quick. The salami and provolone and the roast beef are standouts. Grab any number of their fresh house made side dishes. My favorite is the cucumber, tomato, and onion salad. Enjoy! read more

I've never been here before or heard of this place. I found them on yelp during a search for a new lunch place. I usually go to lunch before 10am (I start at 4am) so I was happy they were open. The man working was so friendly. I was the only person inside and he talked with me the entire time he was making my sandwich. I usually don't like small talk, it's super awkward and I just want to get out of there but he was super personable. (Maybe cuz he was handsome) lol. But really, I would definetly go back. My sandwich was great. And the price was about average for a decent sandwich other than subway. So definetly worth it. read more

Tuna on sandwich bread got a B. My pastrami D+. Even though Swiss cheese was listed as the 2nd ingredient, none was found. And on a white bun? Rye wasn't even available. I've had much much better. At $8.50 per sandwich! Never again. read more

I was in town for a funeral and Sub Station came highly recommended. I needed to feed 20 people for a memorial service and placed my order the day before the service. I walked in, sat down, started crying and a young lady came over and sat with me to take my order. I was a mess and she was so polite. Not only did they accommodate my order but I was given the owners number and was told to call him when I was ready to pick up the food. They closed at 3 but when I called, he was at the restaurant at 545 waiting for me. Not only is the customer service phenomenal, the food was as well. I ordered a platter of different sandwiches (everyone loved them) and a salad (great as well). NO food was left over. I will definitely be frequenting this establishment when I am in town and I most definitely recommend them from something as simple as lunch to something larger as a reception, birthday, memorial etc. read more

So, I work a few blocks from here and had never tried it until yesterday. The facility itself is kind dated but clean. The service was good. And the food was very good (I had the tri-tip with horseradish, salsa and bbq sauce). I was concerned that all three wouldn't work but they definitely do. I would recommend this joint to friends and family. read more

Paid around 15 dollars and waited close to 25 minutes for an absolutely sub-par "beef dip". Waited a long time while the employees danced and sang along to the radio and chatted instead of making my food, for a dry sandwich that was barely lukewarm, even though the menu said it was toasted. The bread my sandwich was made on tasted stale and hardened as I ate it, which means it was likely microwaved. There was about 5 pieces of meat on the sandwich, so what I got was mostly bread. The "au jus" that was served with the sandwich was also microwaved, so it tasted of freezer burn and had a terrible almost chocolate-y flavor (Im not a big fan of chocolate, so this wasn't my thing.) Got a large fountain drink (which costed $3.50... seriously??), the root beer I got had a weird a plasticky after taste, might need to change/ check the syrup. The only thing that worked were my bag of chips. Likely will not return-insane prices for extremely lackluster food. Seems this place is more of a hang out and is there for an aesthetic purpose, and are not really concerned about serving good food, or at least close to what you would expect for the prices they charge. Bummer. read more

They also have my favorite clam chowder, maybe favorite even over Splash I recommend online ordering so you don't have to wait, their service is quick but they can get busy! The shop is small but I here's plenty of room to eat there if you desire. Also! They have that good crushed ice!

Speaking of obsessions, Caesar's in general remains one for me and my whole family. My family loves when the group text says,"I'm getting Caesar's on the way home. Send your orders in now". A sure fire way of being the family favorite for the night. The folks serving the delicious food are still nice as can be. The prices are still astonishingly affordable. I almost always grab my sandwich and lasagna to go, but the interior is so cute I hope to make time to sit and enjoy my meal there in the near future.

Ive got mixed reviews on this as when you go to a small town diner, you get what you get. Sometimes (most of the times) it is a great experience. This time, I felt that we were not really welcome and that we were more of an annoyance than a customer. There were 5 of us and we each ordered a sandwich and drink. once the sandwiches were made they were given to us but without any notice as to what sandwich was what. We would have to go digging into the sandwich to decide and I personally dont want to eat a sandwich that someone else was prying into so we all kind of stuck with the first thing we grabbed. One of the drinks was wrong (mine) and as I went back up to the counter to let her know , she said that she poured the right drink and I said that it tastes like water not Diet Pepsi and she said that I ordered tea (I am not a tea drinker). I said Im sorry, I would like a diet Pepsi and she changed that out. In the end the food was not bad - the service was a bit rude and maybe because we were not from the small town or maybe the person helping was not in a good mood. I dont think that we will stop back into this business.

Their bolognese sauce was so delicious and had the right amount of meat and sauce for their pasta dish. Having a glass of white wine with my meal, it was truly one of my favorite meals I've had in quite some time.

About 8 minutes after we sat down, Karina (our waitress) came over. The texture kind of reminded me of a funnel cake, soft with a little crisp.. very different from your typical onion ring. Their chipotle aioli ranch paired perfectly with them too. (My left over onion rings reheated to crispy perfection in the air fryer the next day!) The sweet potato fries were also really good and had sauce drizzled over the top. My husband mentioned it would've been nice to have some extra sauce on the side for dipping, though. Paid about 68 in total with tip. Not bad. Overall, we really enjoyed everything and are looking forward to coming back.

Overall food is good just expensive and small portions.
