My man & I both have locs that needed to be maintenance and I wanted a style. I stumbled upon this…read moreshop by way of Yelp looking for a stylist that could do loc's. I have seen this shop many of times driving past it going to my cardio kickboxing class up the street, but never really stopped because I just thought it was a barber shop. Little did I know that a stylist named Monae worked here. As the other review from 2013 said she does a excellent job smd that she does. She now charges about $60 for a regular maintenance (wash & retwist) and the price for a style depends on the type. She didn't ask me how long our loc's were like some people in this area do, when actually all you are retwisting is the root of the hair and palm rolling the rest. This made my man even more comfortable to go to her since his loc's are longer than mine. For the gentleman reading this review my man was also able to get lined/shape up ($10) by one of the barbers out of the three that were working at the time and I was able to get my nape area cleaned up as well. This shop is open 7 days a week, which is a plus for my man & I. Needless to say I think we have found a permanent barber & loctician that is closer to our home. Yeppie.

I got a full highlights and a cut. The whole thing took an hour and a half, which usually takes longer. I fully trusted my hair stylist, and she proved well! Second, the staff was all very friendly, both in person and in making the appointment. Thirdly, the location was very nice. I'd go back to get my nails and hair done again. The drive was rough coming from Arlington to Maryland, but that's a no-brainer. Off rush-hour hours though, this would be worth the drive from VA, DC, or other parts of MD.

The brush used was full of hair like it hadn't been cleaned out in a long time. It was a very poor experience for them and they won't be back.

Scrambled to find another stylist who could accommodate us this late on a Sunday. We were blessed to find Ms. Flora on Yelp. First, she is now in Bowie off of Northview Drive across the street from Bowie Town Center. She has only been at this location for a few weeks. Nice layout and comfortable. Very clean and organized. There is ample parking and it is in close proximity to various shopping and restaurant options. As soon as we arrived, Ms. Flora got right to work. I loved that she did an initial assessment of my daughter's hair and asked for my preferences in style. She can definitely do it all - cornrows, braids, pigtails, chemical treatments, weaves, etc. I will definitely return.

Charisma has the sweetest spirit, she listens to what you want, is extremely knowledgeable about hair, and I can't say enough about how fair the pricing is. You will be hard-pressed to get a sew-in for under $350 in the DC area, but you can tell Happy Tresses is mindful of the working woman's price-point and standard of quality. I should also add Charisma did the best cornrows I've EVER had in record time. My sew-in laid so flat, the style still looks brand new 5 weeks later--I honestly don't want to take it out, but I digress. I haven't tried the bundles yet (because I already had hair before I made the appointment), but the Brazilian Island Wave and Indian Steamed Curl are right up my alley and next on my list.
