StyleCraft refuses to take any responsibility for the consequences of shoddy "craftmanship" of our home. Buyer beware!!

I purchased a StyleCraft townhome in 2021 and paid for the upgrade to add a 3 seasons room. Within a few months, water was leaking near the main support post. Repairs were attempted twice within that first year, and assuming it was resolved, we installed flooring over the concrete slab. Two years later, water began seeping through the floor seams. We had to tear up the floor and found significant water damage. The leak was not properly fixed and water had continued to accumulate under the floor. I contacted StyleCraft who told me to call the company that installed the room. They came out three times and caulked everything they could. The technician noticed a split in the seam, tried to caulk it but it still leaks. The technician also informed me that although they built the room, StyleCraft installed the post. StyleCraft now claims 3 seasons rooms aren't waterproof and I should expect some water to come in. However, this issue is more than just a small leak and it has existed from the moment we moved in. I'm now left with a room that consistently has water in it. StyleCraft's work is subpar and their refusal to take responsibility should be a warning to all who are considering buying from them. This is not a warranty issue, it's a matter of poor workmanship and failure to stand by their product. According to Stylecraft, this is "normal". read more

Before we moved in, we had a raw sewage backup in the master bathroom. A plumbing camera inspection revealed construction debris (rags and pieces of tarp) had been flushed and lodged in the line. Flooring, trim, and the vanity kick plate had to be removed and replaced in the entire bathroom, linen closet and toilet closet. Repairs took 17 weeks. Since closing, we have dealt with numerous additional issues (these are only a few): - Improperly sealed and insulated window framing that led to condensation and mold growth (nearly $8,000 paid in professional remediation, air scrubbing, testing, and repairs). StyleCraft refuses to reimburse us for this. - Drainage defects that caused water to rise up the brick foundation. Mortar cracked and bricks detached from the foundation ($2,850 paid out to correct this because StyleCraft refused to fix it or reimburse us for it). - LVP flooring replaced in a large portion of the home for various reasons. Floor boards were cut too short and are separating from walls. The quarter round does not touch the floor in several rooms. - All granite countertops (island, kitchen and stop & drop) are uneven and the island top was also put on crooked. The beveled edges are inconsistent and some are very sharp. All was reported during the warranty period and ignored. The granite company told us after the fact that they had a 1-year craftsmanship warranty and would have fixed the counters had StyleCraft told them about it. - Scratched and damaged cabinetry, including the molding at the top of the cabinets. Molding unsecured and fell off. - Closet shelving installed without anchoring into studs that collapsed and badly damaged the drywall ($5,800 paid out for major drywall repairs, painting and new closet system). - Overloaded electrical circuits - Severe HVAC temperature inconsistencies - At 2-year warranty check - 559 nail pops and drywall cracks marked, only 189 were repaired Many issues were reported during the warranty period. Concerns were deferred, minimized, or later categorized as homeowner responsibility. The mold issue was especially concerning. We reported ongoing window moisture issues years earlier and were dismissed. Mold was later discovered within the wall and behind the window trim. The mold exposure directly affected my health and required professional remediation and repair. This home was supposed to be our long-term residence. Instead, it has resulted in repeated repairs, substantial financial loss, and serious health impact. In addition, I live with a progressive nerve condition that is significantly worsened by prolonged stress, and the years of unresolved defects and repair disputes have aggravated that condition. Attempts to escalate matters to the VP of construction and the company owner were ignored. I even submitted a 9-page bullet point list of issues broken down by room to the owner, which was not acknowledged. We were lied to repeatedly by sales and the project manager. Prospective buyers should conduct independent inspections at every phase of construction and ensure all representations and repair commitments are in writing before closing. I have had many issues with my "NEW" home which started in the first year. Of course you have a warranty, however the pictures that will be provided were told to StyleCraft in the first year and I was told I should have noticed that in the walk thru! Really I have built three homes prior and never have I seen such awful work. See photos of door that I reported was damages when they put it in and was told sorry. Now it is really horrible. I made the colossal mistake of purchasing a StyleCraft home, and it's been a living hell ever since. The quality of construction is absolutely appalling. I live off of Millers Lane, and I have neighbors that have cracking foundation. I have neighbors that have constantly dripping from the ceiling. People are being sent NDAs to not mention the problems they are having in their homes. In my own home I have the cheapest finishes and those are falling apart. My carpet is tearing up, the doors are peeling from the bottom up. It's like living in a poorly constructed cardboard box. The HOA is an absolute joke. The manager is incompetent and unresponsive, and the fees keep skyrocketing for absolutely no reason. The landscaping is a disgrace - dead grass everywhere, and they couldn't care less about maintaining the community. Security is a non-existent concept. I've reported numerous issues to our HOA Community Manager (Taylor Brewer) but she has been completely unresponsive, or when she does respond it is truly like talking to a box of rocks. She is unwilling to address any problems. Save yourself the headache and avoid StyleCraft Homes at all costs. You'll regret it the moment you sign the contract. P.S. September 2021, I bought my home from StyleCraft Homes. StyleCraft has given false representation on their work. I have had problems each year since moving in. The biggest issue now is the downstairs front windows have water damage. I have reached out to the HOA for some help but since the warranty has expired the HOA is not willing to assist with fixing the issue. HOA is only willing to send someone out to re-caulk the outside windows. You can see where it has started to separated. I am still waiting for someone to come out and caulk the windows so it has continued to rain in my house. I have been told it's the homeowner responsible to take care of this matter. You can see the water droplets on the blinds. The water has damaged the drywall and is pealing along the sealing of the window at the top and around the window. I had a company Ecosystems Environmental System come to make sure there was no mold in my home. I had to come out of pocket for the cost of that and carpet cleaning. Also, I am working on quotes from contractors to get the issue fixed before it gets worse. Before purchasing or working with this company do some research on StyleCraft. StyleCraft just wants to get houses, condos and townhouses up very fast with cheap materials and unqualified people to build them. I still have not gotten any answers on how this problem is going to be rectified. StyleCraft has poor service, poor communication and very unprofessional. I bought a townhome from StyleCraft and it's probably one of the worst mistakes I've ever made. The work is so sloppy and the process was horrendous. Horrible communication. And it gets even worse after you close and move into the Warranty period. No one seems to care about addressing issues. I had to threaten legal action to get a moisture issue addressed after bringing it to their attention multiple times over a period of a year. It got so bad I had areas COVERED in mold and mildew. Most in my community complain about issues with their homes and dealing with StyleCraft. Also they like to brag about the 10 year warranty they offer with RWC but that doesn't cover all the sloppy cosmetic work. I would NEVER recommend this builder. Run away as fast as you can. But if you dare just look VERY close at fit and finishes. Disgusting work and they should be embarrassed! read more

Don't waste your money. I bought into the idea of a brand new beautiful construction home thinking it would save me time and would be great as my 1st time buying a home. Instead, I have beeb flooded, literally and figuretively with issue after issue as it is clear the house was rushed to meet completion date. Even basic things like having trim meet the floor was not done correctly. My house flooded before I moved in because a worker flushed a paper towel. My stairwell corner isnt squared. My window trim was broken. There was a hole in my wall. Theres a hole in my carpet. The list goes on and on. And now I am stuck with a "new house" that looks like a dump. I am so disappointed and would never recommend this company to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I begin the home buying process with StyleCraft back in February of 2022. I was purchasing a new build property in Kennington Townhomes in King William VA. I had an awesome seller and builder team they would do weekly updates and solved any concerns or issues. We went into closing in July, my lender prolonged the closing process for weeks. The day of closing I am notified I am no longer approved for the First time Homebuyers loan and more money is needed. I contacted the seller with StyleCraft and immediately started working with their suggested lender to get approval. I was denied and advised " they have no idea what my lender was doing or how something like this could happen right at closing. I was also advised more than 5k would be needed to go through with either loan". I spoke back with my seller and she told me she would be working with her boss Hayley Copley and following up. I was told via text a week later no refund would be provided that decision was left up to Hayley her txt " I am so sorry I tried everything I could i really fought to get you your deposit of 5 thousand dollars back i am so sorry". I asked for Hayley contact number was provided a phone number and email address, I called Hayley and emailed several times. I never received a call back i received two emails from her stating " I am in and out of meeting and my decision about the deposit has been made". No phone call back still to this day never received from her. As a first time home buyer RUN....the home buying process is stressful and scary. Style Craft showed me after that incident they are only concerned about MONEY nothing else. I will never do business with them or recommend anyone to either. StyleCraft homes makes very attractive houses. They also have a slick but dishonest sales pitch. After moving in I quickly found that their sales people exaggerated quite a bit. Many thing that I was told were standard in the house were not. Their quarterly maintenance consists mostly of tightening door knobs. Their would not even change the light bulb in a ceiling fan that I had bought thru them and that they had installed. Beware of their 2 year warranty. I was told that it covered everything in the house. It does not. The worst thing about the company is the warranty department. The warranty department is very difficult to work with. They spend more time arguing that repairs are not their responsibility than they do actually doing repairs. Some of their repair people are sexist and racist. read more

StyleCraft Homes does not build quality homes. I bought a townhouse in Short Pump and have had issues with the home from day one. And once you've bought, they just don't care or have any incentive to address the issues. I have issues that have gone unresolved for two years. I now have moisture issues that have created mold/mildew in the home. I've brought this to their attention and the related health concerns and still things go unresolved. They sell their customers subpar product and then leave them dealing with the problems. I would characterize it as negligence. Do not buy from this home builder. I completely regret it. I am the mom that has been waiting for my town home to get started in Greenwich Walk, Midlothian VA. It is now July 17 of 2020. I drive by so very often to look at the progress of the site construction. Yes, I said site construction!!! I was promised a beginning of May 2020 date for move in. As of now I still do not have a move in date!! I am so disappointed and sad about this whole process and reading other reviews very concerned about my decision to have them even build me a dog house. I tried to get out of the contract but of course I would not get my $30,000 back. Yup!! I signed all the paperwork agreeing to that. They were so sincere and my husband had just passed away and I was vulnerable. I feel so taken advantage of. And am now wondering about the quality of their workmanship. Totally agree with the previous review statements. Grateful I was not deterred by their promises and then inaction. They pride themselves and publish quality construction with a superior warranty yet in my case they thought it was ok for shingles to start falling off within 3 months. After promising me repairs they had their attorney unequivocally state they accept no responsibility for the roof and threaten to take action against me. Thank goodness I persisted and their own structural engineer agreed that the roof was installed incorrectly and the county says it does not pass code. Find another builder and save yourself the aggravation and frustration. Find a builder who will do it right with integrity and pride in workmanship. read more

We used SC to build what we thought would be a house with the typical small issues. Our list reads longer than War and Peace of not small issues, but MAJOR issues. We even had to move out for a week to get them to repair/replace or re do. That being said, we are now 2 years in and will be hiring competent "professionals " to do all the work correctly! Pathetic!! They are a shady "company" at best. I would never recommend SC to anyone! They tell you what you want to hear and they then do what they want, which is absolutely nothing! Their so called warranty is worthless. They tell you they will fix things and make it right, just to send you a letter stating nothing is under their "wonderful" warranty program. Please do not buy into it like we did. Big mistake! I know of not one person in our neighborhood that has even been remotely happy. My mother has been trying to have a townhouse built with Stylecraft since May of last year. It is now almost May of this year and they still have not even started building. The target date was May 6 of 2020 and then June of 2020 and then August of 2020 and then September of 2020 and now they are saying end of October beginning of November. She is very frustrated and now wants out of the contract after repeated lies about how construction was beginning and even a video several months back of site work starting which was only a one day pomp and circumstance event. Maybe now it may begin, but with all the lies and frustration she has decided she wants her deposit back and they will not even give her an answer. She has sent repeated emails and text messages and no response. They were Johnny on the spot when taking her money and spreading lies, but now that they can't put their money where their mouth is, they have suddenly become non responsive. So 15 years ago Stylecraft Homes built me a house. I know what you are thinking its been 15 years, but allow me to continue. about two years ago we noticed the floors on the second floor above the garage were beginning to squeak. A year later they were squeaking louder so because I was going to put the house on the market called a contractor to evaluate and fix the floor. Well it appears that when they were building the house they put the beam that is supposed to support the floors PARALLEL to the joists instead of perpendicular which could not be seen unless the drywall ceiling was cut into. This caused extreme bowing of the floors in this area. Who builds a house that way? If you are going to build with these people make sure you spend a few bucks on a contractor to walk the property with you at various stages so you can avoid this situation. Terrible company to build with. If you hate car salesmen, you will hate building with them. They lie about everything and continue to do so after you have owned your home. The warranty they give after building is a joke, they don't cover anything. All you hear is this isn't covered under warranty. Well I'm pretty sure, my doors should not be bowed or not shutting within 2 months of closing on the home. Trim is pulling from walls/floors separating - again that shouldn't happen within 2 months. We were missing grout around tile and they had the audacity to say it was there but it two months is dissolved. I don't do tile work but even that one is hard to believe. Once you own the home, they do not return calls/texts/emails in regard to any issues. Be cautious has they have been caught in our neighborhood of creating major drainage problems because they do not build the lot to the elevation plat approved by the county. Terrible company - they should not be allowed to build in the Richmond area - no one in our neighborhood as one good thing to say about them and that is sad. read more
