Best selection of vintage Levis I've found anywhere. The rest of the clothing stock inside looks amazing as well. I've dropped by twice; both times have yielded some outstanding denim. The owners are knowledgeable, and I've learned something new with each visit. For the uninitiated, prices may appear high, but it's actually super reasonable when you consider the price of crap, department-store denim that has a fraction of the wear life, and none of the eye appeal. Huge selection of boots and my beloved bell bottoms! The whole place is run on solar and the owner will show you how it's set up. Well, I must have caught Art on a bad day.... Me and my wife passed by the place on the way to Austin and thought it looked really cool outside so we agreed to stop on our return trip to Dallas. My wife is an ex model and loves vintage clothes!! We carefully looked for the place off of I - 35 and I pulled across the street to get some photos of the outside of "style station" before she went inside to shop. Suddenly, a man appears from inside " guessing it was art" and barked out that "they do not like pictures taken if their place". I found this very odd since it was 75 feet from a major interstate ( privacy??) and that such care was taken to decorate and draw attention to his place. She was taking photos of a public building with her camera phone!! I thought that maybe I mis-understood him so when I said " you don't like photos taken???" he replied"you heard me"!! He then walked inside. Funny, cause he has a sign outside that says " war is not the answer" yet he immediately alienated a potential customer. read more

On the mostly uninteresting drive down I35 from Dallas to Austin, 4 miles outside of West, I spotted a sign on the side of the road -- "Style Station Vintage Clothing." What on earth could a vintage store located in such a weird place hold? Something told me AWESOME, so I turned around to do some exploring. The selection is wide and fantastic and reasonably priced considering how unique some of the pieces are. They are also in good to excellent vintage condition -- Rebecca seems to take a lot of care to hand-wash and repair things before putting them out. I asked her where she gets it all from, and she explained that they've been collecting since the mid-80s and have 2 warehouses full of inventory that comes from estate sales, wholesalers, collectors, etc. She was super nice and friendly, as was Art, who does indeed talk everyone's ear off but not in an annoying way -- the dude just has a lot to say. Someone should set him up with a blog or something. I really can't overemphasize how impressed I was with the selection. So many beautiful 50s and 60s dresses! Also probably the best place to buy a pair of vintage cowboy boots because they appear to have them in every shape and size. I definitely plan on coming back any time I have to make that awful drive up 35. I wish they would sell some of their stuff online so I could shop there more than 4 times a year, though. I asked Rebecca about it and she said she's considered it, but it would just take so much time to get it all set up and they seem pretty content as they are. If I didn't live in Austin I would volunteer to do it for her, just for a chance to look through those warehouses! read more

Style Station is without a doubt one of the best of the vintage shops I've been to. So strange it's in West, TX, out of all places. To start, their selection is really great and varied, both for men and women. Although, it seems like they specialize in vintage western attire. I love western shirts and I felt like I hit a goldmine when I first walked in. Addtionally, they have small knick-knacks here and there and a lot of records (although most are pretty overpriced). Rebecca is very sweet and very helpful with anything you need or want. Art is definitely a character. He's very fun to talk to. Sometimes he doesn't make any sense, but he's not at all unfriendly. I once overheard Art saying to a family member while I was getting dressed that Willie Nelson had some sort of group of men that owned machine guns that were once going to kill him when he was at one of Willie's concerts. If you're making the I-35 drive, it's definitely worth your time to leave an hour or hour and a half earlier so you can stop in Style Station. Highly recommended. read more

If you are on your way to (or from) Austin (or even Waco) and are jonesing for vintage clothes-- or a heapin' helpin' of talk soup-- this is the place for you. (Note, southbound take exit 347. if you are northbound on 35, exit 348 and cross over to the west side access road). The couple that own the place used to have a vintage shop in Toronto, and they have some great-- mostly western wear-- clothes, hats, boots and curios. About the owners... She's a sweetheart, usually found repairing some item or other. He is, shall we say, a complete piece of work that has an unmeasurable amount of pent-up conversation stored in him. With the slightest encouragement (ask him about the Dallas SWAT television show, or ANY topical police story) get ready for a punctuation-free soliloquy covering a range of totally disjointed topics that could span the jack-booted terror that has become our police force (did I say mention SWAT??) to searching for the lost grave of a texas blues legend (complete with witches and ghosts), to hangin' with Bono and The Edge whenever they came to Toronto spoken at a velocity that reflects the awareness that it might be days before he has a chance to converse again! Don't worry about having to hold up your end of the conversation. Meanwhile, she's periodically rolling her eyes, not unlike Gromit when Wallace has done something particularly inane... If Raising Arizona is one of your favorite movies, recall Nicholas Cage working in the machine shop at his drill press with the guy (grimy Bud played by M. Emmet Walsh with the goggles pushed up on his head) just YAMMERING away about who the HELL knows what, and you pretty much got the picture... My husband and I were on our way home from the Dallas area, I'd heard about this place from your one & only YELP - So when we passed I HAD to check it out! I am obsessed with1970 Caftans, and found a super cute one here for 22$ - and snap button up shirts (hard to find anywhere) They're open 7 days a week, and were opened when we passd at 5:30P - I assume they're open late (7 -8P) . They have an amazing collection of clothing, purses, boots, womens shoes, scarves, belts, head scarves, sun glasses, sweaters, 1950's/60's/70's/80's dresses and tops, there are vintage T-shirts from the 70's/80's/90's, Bra&Lingerie sets, swimsuits, jackets,jeans, & general antiques from a rad generation ... The clothes are well taken care of, and I'd love to say that the items are reasonably priced but I'm a down home vintage shopper, and the prices here are obscene on some items, and just spendy in general on the majority of the rest of the items. The best part about being a "Vintage Shopper" is that you find cheap priced awesome clothes. Here its like shopping at a 'Forever 21' from the 70's... This place is a fashion oasis in a desert of trashy trucker caps and reverse-fit jeans. Here, you'll find a finely edited collection of vintage clothing and accessories - including the biggest selection of vintage cowboy boots I've ever seen. The last time I stopped by, I walked out in a full-length wool cape with mink trim, which sounds ridiculous, but made me about as happy as a person driving down I35 in rush hour can possibly get. My husband and I stopped by this morning on our way to magnolia silos to check it out. He had visited once previously and was aware that the owner, Art, rambles on about meaningless topics but this was a whole different level. Art spewed several insults about various artists, as well as christians, as we shopped and we kept our mouths shut and tried to drown him out. We inquired about a price on a shirt and he lost his mind, insulted us and yelled us out of the shop. Bitter angry man who doesn't know how to interact with others. Not worth it and definitely not a business I want to support. Nor should any other person especially in the Texas country music scene. He didn't have one nice thing to say about any of them. I have never been treated with such disrespect. In short, support businesses that show common courtesy as well as the Texas country musicians that help sustain his business that he spoke so negatively about. read more

Way more fun than anything else on the way for clothes, this shop's just on the other side of Hillsborough, in a converted gas station. The lady who runs it was friendly and relaxed, and has repaired the inventory so it's in good vintage condition. The stuff's also really affordable. Last time I went I found a 50's hawaiian print minidress (made 'mini' by the shop owner), a bizzare -but fantastic- 60's tailored shift with flocked strawberries and a snazzy 40's cocktail number, all for about $60 total. Their selection of western wear is great as well, but regardless it's a much recommended place to stop if you're heading towards Austin. read more

I don't know where to start...the place is chock full of awesome inside and out! They have very good quality, VERY reasonably priced clothing and accessories. Lots of great-looking cowboy boots, Levi's (of course) - even the hard to find "Big E" stuff, western shirts, T-shirts, dresses, purses....just about everything! I found an old Samsonite train case for $10 - that I have been searching for forever, because I loved my Mom's so much! Art and Rebecca are the BEST. Extremely knowledgeable about their merchandise, the manufacturers and Rebecca will even tell you the best way to launder certain items to keep them preserved. Very, very cool, sweet people. It's more than a shopping trip...it's an experience! GO!!! read more

It is unfortunate that today's stop at my favorite vintage clothing shop will be my last. I called before my arrival to ask if it was OK if my small Chihuahua was brought in in a carrying bag since I was traveling this time with him. The sweet woman said it was OK. Before I entered the shop I took a picture of my dog outside because it is such a great environment. He then waited in the car with the car running so that I could make it quick pass through the store to look for two very specific items. When I walked in the store I saw a sign that said please no pictures. I respected that request and took no photos inside. There were two ladies shopping and they had quite a few items to try on and the space in this unique and fun store is limited. I had to make my visit shorter than my usual visits here because of my dog and the other excited shoppers finding great treasures. In the past I have never stopped at style station without making a purchase. Today I did not make a purchase although I did try a few vests on and unfortunately they were too big. I was very friendly and said I enjoyed my visit and that I would return again and then gave a compliment on a cool shirt on my way out. At this point the very rude man/owner passive aggressively asked if I got some good pictures outside. He then proceeded to explain that it is all intellectual property and that he has signs everywhere asking for no pictures. I told him I was sorry and that I thought it was just inside that pictures were not allowed and that I did not see a sign outside that said no pictures. He then accused me of stopping just to take pictures. I actually Love vintage shopping and do it as often as I can including spending a lot of money in this man's store. Sad to say I will never return again. Nor refer it to my friends and family that make the trek south to Austin. How rude and condescending. The woman apologized on his behalf but unfortunately I will choose to buy my vintage boots, dresses and accessories elsewhere so that none of my money goes to that half. He could have handled the situation more respectfully and tactfully and I would have continued to be a shopper at style station. read more
