Last week, I used yelp to look for a new hair stylist. Since Style Kitchen was highly rated, I went to their website to find out more. I was ecstatic when I found out Rachel was their Brow Artist. I have been searching for Rachel for a while. She used to work wonders on my brows at another salon in town. When she left (they wouldn't let her take her client list), I thought she had moved to another state. Needless to say, I had a hard time finding someone as good as Rachel. Why is Rachel so great? Rachel takes her time, and she analyzes your face and bone structure. She explains her methods while she tweezes your brows. Because she tweezes, instead of waxing, she doesn't take too much off at one time. She didn't tell me that last bit. It's something I concluded from other brow disasters. Throughout the appointment, Rachel will patiently reposition your head so you get even results. Also, Rachel is the only Brow Artist who has been able to get both my brows to match. For some reason, my left brow looks a lot different than my right. Rachel, took her time and made them match. Rachel's like my Fairy Godmother. She took my caterpillar brows and turned them into Disney Princess Brows. I'm so happy I found her! Style Kitchen is a cute store which in super convenient to downtown Nashville. When you walk inside, the mirrors are suspended from the ceiling in an artsy fashion. They have plenty of magazines to look at while you wait from the standard magazines you find in regular salons to foreign magazines from Japan. The receptionist is super sweet! I can't wait to go back to get my hair cut! read more

I have long hair and I asked for texture and layers, something that will lay natural and not look choppy. She was able to do this and I'm very happy with the results! read more

I had a great experience at this salon. As others have mentioned, the retro decor is fantastic, and sitting on the comfy couch and perusing a magazine makes for a very pleasant waiting experience. I showed up a little muddy and sweaty from an athletic event and no one looked askance. It was a busy afternoon and there was a sampling of everything in there - men/women/well-dressed/dressed-down/post-workout/Suburban power-mom. Looks like everyone just comes on in, has a beverage, and gets along. Zero pretense. My stylist, Angelica, was fantastic. Easy to talk to, engaging, happy personality. She really listened to my wishes, and she's the first stylist I've seen that prefers scissors to texturizing shears to add volume to long hair. Other stylists have tried to add swing to my long, thick hair by either adding layers or texturizing. Angelica explained why this doesn't always work. It bears repeating, but she's the one to ask for if you have wavy, curly, and/or long hair. Good cut with a reasonable price tag. I'm reaching here to find any negatives, but I recall that parking was a bit of a problem, as their lot is small. I had to wait for a spot to open, and then had to squeeze into a tiny space. Also, the bathroom looked like it was due for a proper cleaning. But, again, I was there at a peak time. Everyone who came out of there looked happy, and their hair looked great. So Chase is now here at Style Kitchen and, of course, I followed him right on over. The salon is brand new and looks great! Old timey kitchen hutches are at each station to hold implements and whatnot. Chairs are all dark blue and the mirrors hang down from the ceiling. Everything in the front room is so light and airy because of the wall of windows that make up the front row. In the middle of the room are some chairs and couches so that you can be comfortable while you wait. And while you wait they will offer you coke, diet coke, water, wine, beer, whatevs. Love it!! In the back there's the sinks to wash your hair as well as a huge kitchen table and the coolest freaking hanging lamp EVER. (Ikea here I come!!) The stylists are all previously from Trim (I think) and are very talented, so you cannot go wrong. But, of course, I go to Chase. In case you haven't heard of Chase I'll tell you what's up. He's the CURLY HAIR MASTER. If you have curly hair and you aren't going to Chase then you seriously need to have your head checked because you are insane. He knows how to color it (and he has opinions, not just "oh whatever you want), he knows how to cut it, and he KNOWS HOW TO STYLE IT. If you have curly hair you know what I mean. No longer do I leave with my hair frizzy and completely unwearable from the salon. No longer do I go home and immediately wash it and start over. Nooooo, when you leave Chase your hair will be movie star ringlets and you will prance through the rest of the day swinging your hair and acting superior. Because you ARE superior, hair-wise anyway. He can also STRAIGHTEN your hair. I mean, I can straighten it into a reasonably straight, partially non-frizzy style with my Chi. But he straightened it like God himself bestowed the straight hair on my head and also put curl and bounce at the ends. I actually called my friends the night he did the straightening and MADE them go out so I could show off my hair at the bar. I mean, it looked phenomenal. So go to Style Kitchen and see Chase. Then prance around like the superior being you are. read more

Rachel is an amazing stylist! I've had short hair, long hair, layers, no layers, bangs (she helped me grow them out!) and color...she's good at it all! I had such a phenomenal experience at this salon on Friday Afternoon! I had my hair cut by Sara, she was so sweet and so talented. I went in with some idea of what I wanted but I am not trendy or stylish by nature. Sara helped to interpret the photos I showed her and melded them into a style that would fit me and my low maintenance lifestyle. She got me to take the leap into my first set of highlights - I was worried they would look streaky and trashy but the way she did them is so so awesome! The hues she chose really warm up my look and bring out more color in my (very pale) skin tone (no easy feat.) The salon itself is amazingly comfortable and welcoming. It was a fun atmosphere and not pretentious and judgmental like other popular salons. They even have a ginormous beanbag that you can hang out in while you process! I almost didn't want to leave. After a year and a half of trying every salon in Nashville I have finally found the one for me and I could not suggest more that you try it out for yourself!! read more

Five stars for Laura! I recently moved to Nashville and was nervous about finding a new salon. I had a great stylist in San Francisco who I'd seen for years, and I was worried that my new stylist wouldn't be up to par. Laura put all those fears to rest. My blonde highlights look absolutely beautiful, and after wearing it for seven weeks, this is my favorite color yet! She mixed different colors and made sure to keep an eye on processing times. The highlights are sunny, natural, and don't have any of that brassy tone. Seven weeks out, you can see roots, of course, but the color still looks great. And on top of making my blonde look natural and gorgeous, Laura can cut hair too! (My last stylist only did color.) I wanted to cut my long wavy hair into a long bob, which would be the biggest change in years. Laura cut seven inches off my hair into a collarbone-length hair cut that looks so chic. She layered it so my waves fall right just air-drying. Laura's very precise, and she took the time to work with my hair's texture to achieve that tousled-wavy-longish bob I wanted. I'm getting lots of compliments on a style that's tricky to achieve with my hair type. So great. And her prices are reasonable. I'm paying less than half of what I paid at a tony salon in SF. Thank you so much Laura! You rock! Oh, and she's sweet and professional and genuine too. So happy to have found her. read more

You never know how much you appreciate your stylist until you get a bad one. Thank goodness for Style Kitchen and the fact that I NEVER have to worry about that again! Though Mark is my go-to for cuts, etc, you can't go wrong with every single stylist there. They are clearly well-trained and up to date on the latest trends and methods while also being extremely friendly. Scheduling is efficient (though I advise you to book a good bit in advance - great stylists stay busy, so a long wait is a good sign), and they're fantastic about making sure you don't forget an appointment or letting you know if a spot opens! I look forward to seeing everyone at Style Kitchen each time I go in, and I always leave happy! read more

Love this place but Joseph even more!! Upscale but not pretentious. The decor is fun. The staff have a great Nashville hip vibe yet warmth while completely professional. My hair is challenging to do and no one could before make it look this good. The color looks natural and texture is like silk. Joseph's cut makes it fall into place more easily than I could have imagined. How does he do that? No wonder clients include models and celebs! The bonus: no one is nicer, kinder or more fun! The time with him and at Style Kitchen just flies by. Everyone I have recommended comes out thrilled. Never had a scheduling goof or an off day in the several years of appointment. I was so sad to hear that my hair stylist, Mary Stanley, had left Trim Classic Barber in Nashville. But then I was so happy to find her at Style Kitchen! Just got an amazing haircut from her today! If they are hiring quality stylists like Mary, you know this is a fabulous place. I felt right at home as soon as I walked in the door--the salon has a very edgy yet homey feel to it. I. Love. This. Place. My husband makes fun of me for how excited and happy I get the day of an appointment with ANGELICA. I love her so much. I have never been so pleased with a stylist's work, and the conversation makes me a better person! I get compliments on my hair often...the color, the cut, the style... I give all the credit to her. After a hair disaster at another establishment, I called needing an appointment ASAP. I was thrilled to be able to get in to see Mary the same day - with all of the raving reviews, I thought it would be months until I would be able to see her. But the Gods of great hair were smiling down on me. Mary is GREAT! She took the time to understand what I wanted, browsing through pictures as well to confirm we were on the same page. My hair is very fine and it doesn't leave room for sloppy cuts. Mary took the time to cut it wet and then refined details after drying it straight. After years of living in Nashville and searching for a great stylist, I believe Mary and I might be on the edge of a long term relationship. He's the reserved, even-keeled kind of guy who can make lemonade out of lemons or rather sleek beauty out of an absolute frizzy disaster that perches like a flamboyant nest on my head. He is as graceful with his demeanor as he is wielding his scissors. He is really able to see and enact a plan for my long curly hair.
