I am totally biased on this review, because Heather has been cutting my hair since 1999, and she owns this fabulously funky salon. So I guess I can be considered a "charter member" of Fruition, if you can be a charter member of a hair salon. Hmmm, I wonder what kind of benefits charter status would give me? But I digress... Fruition has been open now for several years, is in a great location on walkable, neighbor-friendly Belmont Boulevard, and is the perfect combination of classic and trendy. From the second you walk in, you know you'll leave with a great cut/color/style. Everyone there is friendly, chatty, and they give you honest opinions. I have only had Heather "Mac" cut my hair (there are at least 3 Heathers, maybe more now) but I have referred numerous friends to Fruition and all of them insist their stylist is the "best in Nashville". I tried to make an appointment today as I am back in town now. The receptionist informed me I could not make an appointment without giving a credit card number for the file. I refused to give my credit card and was told I could not have an appointment. I am a victim of credit card fraud and try to protect my information at all costs. All I have to say is that Fruition locked in a superstar when they brought in Jenna as a stylist. She's 5 star material, really friendly and fun to talk with, and has an awesome perspective after doing a lot of international travel to fashion and product shows across Europe and Asia. She told me some funny stories about being a redhead in Tokyo... and we had a great time chatting. Super friendly. The thing I love about Jenna is that with my hair we talked about my vision and she had some awesome insights and gave me an amazing hair cut. Right down to the details, she gave me a ton of attention, has an incredible sense of style, and knew how to translate that to a stunning cut... which is really hard to do. I was in town for a week from New York and decided to have highlights and a cut since I had the time. Jenna (who's new to Fruition) did both, and I highly recommend her. Highlights are not just highlights - I've had brassy highlights, orange-ish highlights, and uneven highlights. So we talked for awhile about how I wanted my hair to look, and she suggested a technique that I just learned the name of...a base tap. Couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Natalie was my hair stylist. It was my birthday, and we drove in from the sticks to visit Nashville for the weekend. I was able to secure a Saturday/afternoon slot and got a single-process done in two hours. I have super-thick hair, and they didn't nickel and dime me like some crazy places have. Natalie was knowledgeable and while she worked she chatted with me about Nashville, why she moved there, what she liked, recommended some places to eat, etc. She toned down my brassy remnants and made my hair a nice, light, shimmery blonde. The blow-out was okay, but mainly because I need some layers cut into my long-ass lion's mane. She worked it well! I went up to the counter and was ready to pay like $140-180, and it came to $90 for a single process, toner, and blowout. I was thrilled. The front desk guy was okay--had to try to warm him up a bit, but everyone else was busy and nice from what I saw. It's been almost two months and I'm just showing a bit of root. I'm also trying to weasel my way back to Nashville to go back to Fruition! read more

Again, I usually don't write a review after just one experience, but its a salon, not a restaurant, so there is less opportunity to be a repeat customer. Having said that, I will definitely be back for Valerie's services. It was time for a change--too long, scraggly hair that needed to be cut off. I'm nearly 30, have a Masters degree, and yet people at work and the folks that I visit with still consider me young; many assume I'm fresh out of college. It is difficult trying to be seen as a leader in my field and a trust-worthy negotiator while still looking young. I had to face it--it was time for a grown-up haircut. The last time I went to a salon, I asked for shorter hair and highlights. They highlights are mild (as requested) but the hair was still below my shoulders... not what I asked for (I was told that "so much change my shock me"...). So this time, I went armed with some confidence of a friend and a few pictures that she had found online. I found Fruition on Yelp, read through the reviews, and decided to try it. I'm so happy that I chose this salon. The experience was exactly what I needed. I never once had to show Valerie the pictures I had selected--she knew exactly the right style. I think I lost about 7 inches of hair that day... My haircut is just fantastic. In fact, the next day at work, a few colleagues from different departments did not recognize me. Fruition is great. Definitely a five star salon, with a six star staff. Sure, I'm a guy, but I'm picky about my haircuts, so my wife suggested trying Fruition after she made her first visit. While the appointment book is filled several weeks out, it's well worth planning ahead. Ansley does a great job no matter what type of hair you have, no matter how picky you are, and (lucky for me) no matter how terrible you are at explaining how you want it cut. She also does a fantastic job on my wife's (now) short hair. Well worth the drive (from Franklin) for us, and having lived in several larger cities around the country and having paid anywhere from $60 - 90 for a men's cut, it's well worth the price. Highly recommended to any guy wanting more than a number two guard shave from the local barber shop. read more

Fruition is definitely my favorite salon in Nashville. My hair is kind of a (okay, a REALLY) big deal to me, and it's difficult for me to trust anyone with it. After a couple of bad experiences at some salons around Nashville, I finally found Fruition. I've had Heather G and Brian cut my hair and they both have done such a great job! I have long, thick, layered hair that could easily be butchered when left in the wrong stylist's hands. Every time I've gone into Fruition I've felt like I was really listened to and my hair always comes out better than I could ever anticipate! Also, I once got my hair cut in a chair across from a pretty famous singer - what?!? It's worth noting that even the receptionists are nice, which does always seem to be the case at salons. "You should definitely have Natalie cut your hair," he said... and of course I obeyed. Who am I to question the advice of my favorite stylist? So I booked an appointment with Natalie at Fruitiion and he was right, she was awesome! She has long wavy hair like mine, so she gave me a perfect cut. Also, in other Adorable News... her husband Brian works there too. So guys, if you need a badass cut & don't know where to go, I'd check this place out. Also street parking is plentiful & free, and they gave me some free shampoo & conditioner samples which were awesome. They carry Bumble & bumble products which are hard-to-find in Nashville. I can't say enough good things about Fruition. As someone who planned travel back to my stylist in Boston when I first moved to NC 9 years ago, finding a stylist I can trust in my own city is a big deal to me. I started going to Fruition when I first moved here in 2009 and started with Heather G. (now Chambers). I loved Heather and her skills, so when she went on maternity leave, I kinda freaked. Good thing they have tons of great people to choose from and I switched to Val Sells and have been with her since. This salon and Val in particular have kept me looking fabulous through the past 4.5 years and many different hair cuts and colors. I totally freak her out when I bring in inspiration pics of what I want to do next, but she always kills it and I look marvelous when I leave. I try to go somewhere in public after my appointments so I can show off my new look because I can't quite get it to look as wonderful as she does. Even my sister requested going to Val when she came down to visit from Boston since she always loves how great my hair looks. She went this past month and got a color and cut transformation and now I want to do that too! :) Scheduling is never an issue for me, however I do have somewhat of a flexible schedule and move things around on my end when they are able to squeeze me in with not a lot of notice (one-two weeks out). Not the cheapest place to get a haircut in town so if money is your main concern, it might not be the best fit for you. But if you're like me and have had one too many bad "cheaper" haircuts in your day, you'll understand that quality of cut/color comes with spending a little extra at Fruition. read more

Sad but Fruition management now enforces keeping your credit card number in their records bc they feel the need to charge when people don't give enough notice to cancel. I get this if someone is abusing but not for they long time customers who do not abuse it. I refused to give my number and they don't allow appointments if you don't. I feel their systems would not be secure enough for me and don't knowingly allow my card number to be stored anywhere. Too bad. I have ended my relationship with them though no fault of the hair stylists there, most are pretty good but the management has jumped the shark this time. BTW, be prepared to pay big bucks. another reason to stop going.... read more

Caitlin at Fruition is fabulous. She just cut my hair from below my shoulders to a short pixie and I have never gotten so many compliments on a haircut! She really took her time (my hair is ridiculously thick, but straight) and made sure that each area was perfect. Love Fruition! After two terrible hair cuts when I first moved to Nashville, a friend suggested Fruition... Thank goodness she did! I started with Valarie, who did a good job, and when she left I booked a seat with Lauren G. She's AMAZING! She's taken my curly hair and transformed it into something manageable and beautiful. I also don't color my hair, but was craving some shine as it's become dull in winter. She suggested a clear treatment, which is like coloring your hair with no dye. My hair looked shiny, but I was surprised the reaction I got- I had almost everyone I saw those next few weeks ask me if I colored my hair or got highlights... Made such a difference! read more

I wanted to like this place, I really did. Rachel has done a great job with my hair, no complaints there. It's expensive, though, which makes going there a bad match for me, though I realize the prices are just fine for people without my budgetary restrictions. I've had three or four more haircuts with Rachel since my previous review, and she didn't run more than 10 or so minutes late for any of my appointments, which is perfectly acceptable, in my opinion (my haircuts don't take up the entire hour anyway). They haven't given me any grief when I've been 10 or so minutes late because of traffic and parking, so fair's fair. I do get mildly irritated with their constant reminders of their cancellation policy, given that I've never so much as changed an appointment without a week or more of notice. Changing appointments is difficult given that they stay pretty booked; I'm a planner so this usually hasn't been a problem for me. Online booking is always a plus for me. "So why the one star, Amy?" I hear you asking. "This seems like a three-star review so far." Haircuts should not need to come with Band-Aids, that's why. Rachel snipped the side of my ear with the tip of her scissors yesterday while cutting my hair. She was extremely apologetic about it, she did what she could to take care of it/me after it happened, and I am fully understanding of the fact that everyone makes mistakes. However, this isn't a mistake I can overlook. I'm sure it was a one-time thing and she'll probably never cut anyone again, but I definitely would not be comfortable going back to her, so I'm not. read more

I had a complimentary bang trim scheduled for tomorrow at 445 pm. Yesterday, I got a call that the appointment I was getting the bang trim in (ie - while the other person's hair color was getting processed my bangs would get trimmed) had cancelled. They called to change my appointment, but I am going out of town for a few weeks and have a very carefully calendared schedule until then. I told them those dates and times didn't work for me, and I needed the original appointment kept. They said that wasn't an option but they were "accommodating" me. I said it's not an accommodation to cancel my appointment. But they wouldn't change their mind. How am I supposed to work with a salon that doesn't keep it's appointments? I'll go somewhere that respects me and my time. For the record, I've been going over a year and have spent around a $1,000 there. With that said, Caitlyn was my stylist, and I loved her. But with management and scheduling like this, I will never go back. read more

Great service, friendly staff, brilliant stylists. Katie is a dream! I have a thick, coarse head of hair that she always makes oh so smooth with a treatment. I've been with her through my bleach and tones, unicorn pink, and rose gold hair days. We're working back to my natural color now, with a few lights and gray touch ups. I needed some damage control on a bad haircut but hadn't even told the receptionist that. When I showed up and explained the situation to Rachel, she said she loved fixing bad cuts (YAY!) and she hooked me right up. My first yelp review - yay! I visited Fruition for a cut and color a bit before Christmas and got the lovely and talented new stylist on the team, Jenna. If you are in the market for a new stylist -or not even looking but know you could use a really good cut and/or color - I would recommend Jenna in a heartbeat. She took a lot of time with me to find out what I like and to also give her recommendations to what would work best for my type of hair (we all can't wear that Jennifer Anniston Friends haircut, can we...). I was so pleased with the care she gave me, and even better, my cut and color lasted so long. Longer than any other cut and color I've had.
