He told her if she refused to get a root canal then they were canceling her appointment even though she told him she came for an appointment with the oral surgeon, not an endodontist. There was no apology for the mix up from him and he was very short and rude towards her. It costs you nothing to be kind, but it seemed as though he would rather be dismissive than helpful. My mother is elderly and all she wanted was some help. Apparently that was too much to ask from Dr Gaynor. I will say the rest of the dental staff was very kind and tried to help my mother make an appointment with a dentist instead, but by that point she said she didn't want to patronize a business with a doctor who treats elderly patients that way. She felt as though she were being blackmailed as he was basically saying, "either do the more expensive treatment that I know you DON'T want with me or you get nothing at all." She didn't want a root canal or implant. She just wants the tooth removed because it's broken below the gum line and needs an oral surgeon to remove it. I'm very disappointed at this man's bedside manner. Thankfully the rest of the staff was so nice because my mother was already crying by the time she was done. What a horribly rude man!

Putting that bias aside, Dr. Kwon is an extremely thorough dentist. You can tell right off the bat he knows what he's doing and you can bet he has had tons of experience doing it. His teeth cleanings are as painless as it can get and he has very good hands. I don't deal very well with pain so if I say a teeth cleaning is bearable... That's saying something. Now onto the good stuff...he's well trained in crowns too, has to get some a couple years ago. Totally painless (because I got numbed) and the crowns were done very nicely. When I was in high school I had to get gum surgery and his recommended periodontist was excellent, couldn't feel a thing and the job was successful! TLDR? Very skilled dentist that understands patient's pain tolerance. Has decades of experience.

The Dr. told me I had two cavities that needed to be filled. I said I just started a new job and that I didn't think my insurance covered it yet. He said he would have his staff contact my insurance for me and check, so I agreed. They came back and said they spoke with my insurance company and that they said it would be covered, so I agreed to have them filled at that time. I had two that needed done. I did one that day and scheduled an appointment for the next week to come back and have the other filled. I went back the next week to get the other one filled and left. The VERY NEXT DAY, I got a call from their office saying that the insurance company wouldn't cover the costs of the fillings and that I owed them $2,000 for the services performed. I of course didn't budget to pay for $2k worth of work done on my teeth so I had to work out a payment plan over the next month to pay for it. Especially since I just started a new job!!! Needless to say, they never actually called the insurance company and figured if I couldn't pay it they would just bill me. I think this is an AWFUL way to do business and exactly how people are put into debt!! I thought I should warn anyone considering going here to make sure to only get services performed on them that they KNOW are covered, and not let them "call" your insurance to check, because they won't! The actual work they did wasn't bad work, but since I had to pay $2k out of pocket for something that would have been free if I wasn't lied to and waited the 4 months until my insurance would cover it, well....sucks!! I will never go back and I guarantee if I pulled a stunt like this with my clients they wouldn't come back either!!

And yet,.. here is one more star/medal/prize: I came to Dr. Cooper for consultation about my old failing/failed implants. He took an X-Ray, then did a CT scan, shared his findings with recommendations, and gave me a referral to the oral surgeon/implantologist. How much do they usually charge you for a consultation + X-Ray + CT scan? I know the answer, been there, done that, and your answer is wrong: Dr. Cooper charged me $0,.. Nothing! Can you believe that? I don't want people to print this review and show it to him, "You charged this guy $0, and I want the same price", but I just can't help yelling from the roof of the world's tallest tower, "This Doctor/Dentist must be from another planet where humanity, kindness, compassion, and decency still exists!" And, of course, his staff is always "top notch", and I suspect that the staff usually mimic the doctor, and I learned that in my long life spanning apx. 3 generations. I was referred to this dental practice by a friend several years ago. I have had different…read moreprocedures and was pleased with the work and appreciate the ability to have dental work under sedation due to a medical issue I have. Dr Potts is a very kind man. Unfortunately, my last few experiences have left me needing to find a new dentist. Several years ago I had a root canal done by a dentist who is no longer at this practice. A few years later, I was having pain in the tooth that had the root canal and saw Dr. Potts, he did a scan and found out that the root canal wasn't done correctly. He referred me to a specialist who might have been able to save my tooth. That wasn't going to work and I needed an extraction and implant. I was quoted $5,000 by Whitney at Lake County Family Dental, similar to what an oral surgeon would be, so I decided to use Dr. Potts as I knew him. When I went in to pay a few days before the procedure, they told me it was actually going to be $7,000. I ended up using them and paying the higher amount because I really wanted to get the extraction done as the tooth was bothering me. They ended up charging me $7,748! I didn't need all the sedation and they are refusing to give me a refund after telling me I had over $1,000 credit! After the extraction, I had a lot of bruising on my face, not sure what happened as I was under sedation during the extraction. It took OVER a YEAR to finally get my implant. Turns out this is not the normal time frame and had I used an oral surgeon, I would have had my implant much earlier and it would have been much less expensive. In the meantime, because I was only able to eat on one side of my mouth, I now needed a crown. This happened right as I was finally getting my implant. My latest experience was very painful and why I have decided to find a new dental practice. I needed a crown and decided to use Dr Potts, he did the temporary crown. I was in pain after the procedure and it got worse a few days later so I went in and saw Dr John Planisek as Dr Potts was unavailable. Dr John Planisek said the temporary crown was too high and this was common for crowns done under sedation. He filed it down and said I'd have some pain for a few days but it would get better. That was not the case, the pain got worse and I was not only unable to eat anything crunchy, like nuts or carrots, but I could only chew on one side and had trouble drinking water and eating soft foods as well. My jaw hurt if I yawned and I was getting shooting pains at random times during the day from my tooth down to my jaw and up to my ear. It also hurt in the middle of the night and I'd wake up several times each night due to the pain. I went in and saw Dr John Planisek again, this was about 2 weeks after the temporary crown was done. He said it could be due to a few issues and that he'd put my permanent crown in and that would stop the pain. I trusted him and agreed to have him put the permanent crown in while I was at the office and not under sedation. He DID NOT offer me any pain relief. I had no idea that I should have asked for something as this dental practice is supposed to be one that cares about patients and doesn't want them to suffer. When he removed the temporary crown, he knew I was in pain as I told him. He put the permanent crown on and it was one of the most painful dental procedures I've ever had. If you've ever had an exposed or irritated nerve and had someone put pressure on it, you know just how awful that pain is. I had to bite down for a few minutes for the cement to adhere and he kept saying the pain would go away, it didn't. I had trouble sitting still due to the pain, my blood pressure skyrocketed and I was sweating. I went home and took 2 Tylenol and 2 Advil for some relief, I was unable to work or eat for the rest of the day and my mouth was still throbbing when I went to sleep. To top It all off, I still have pain and my bite doesn't feel right but I'm too scared to ask them if it can be fixed. I'll just find a new dentist and get help there. Worst $2.500 I've ever spent! Unless you like feeling like you're being tortured, and have a lot of money to spend, find another dental practice.
