As an art lover, I think Studios on the Park is a MUST VISIT if you're ever in Paso Robles! This is a large space in the downtown area, right in the main park. It is a brightly-lit, high ceiling building that has a collection of artwork (for sale!) from multiple local talents of various mediums. I went in to look, but walked out with 2 multi-media oil painting-newspaper pieces from an artist named Holly whom I even got to meet! It was incredible to get to chat with her about what inspired her to create this kind of work. Then at checkout, my eyeballs deceived me by wandering to some cool glass-blown plant stick decorations that were made from the last Disney glass blower. So, I, of course, *had* to buy a couple of those delightful beauties! Everyone I met there was friendly and welcoming; there is much to look at and much to do there; it is also a place that has many giftable items if you have a birthday or holiday coming up or need some walls to fill. If I had more time, I would have stayed and participated in the self-paced $10 watercolor painting project that was setup in the middle of the hall. Heck, I could be here all day! read more

A must visit to this non-profit when in Paso Robles, CA! A collection of both talented local artists and guest artists, who provide a feast for the eyes, and senses. The studio is great for discovering artist and shopping for oneself and gift giving. I treated my daughter to a class on Print Making, hosted by Bob Simola and Anne Laddon. As one enters the building, the front end of a 1951 Hudson Hornet is displayed to welcome visitors to this former Hudson Packard dealership. The building has been repurposed into a period correct structure now housing, Studios on the Park. The building is divided into individual working studios were one may watch the artists create, and display their work. This allows one to appreciate the differences among the art works displayed, view technique(s), or buy an original artwork. Examples include oils, acrylics, textiles, glassware, mixed media, and a variety of other art medias. There are also three galleries: Paso Robles Joint Unified Gallery (local students), Paso Robles Art Association, and the Celeste Hope & Signature Galleries in Studio 8, featuring artists from around the world. The gift shop offers visitors the opportunity to purchase handmade creations. On exhibition from January 2 - 26, 2020, one can explore more than 70 artworks depicting Jewish heritage, culture and traditions in "Keeping the Faith: An Artistic Celebration of Judaism". During our last visit, they were also hosting "Salute to the Marx Brothers." On display were three original paintings by Arthur "Harpo" Marx. During Art After Dark Paso, on the first Saturday evening of the month they celebrate their latest exhibit along with great music and premium wines. They also serve wine by the glass every Friday and Saturday night. Wonderful gallery. It's divided into multiple sections where artists can both work and exhibit/sell their art. Each artist has a studio and a gallery space. You'll find paintings, jewelry, accessories, pottery, and more. There is also a gallery dedicated to children's work (looks like they do classes here). We stopped in while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant. It's located close to all the bars/restaurants so you don't have to go out of your way. Highly recommended for a quick stop! read more

Studios on The Park is hosting an art showing called "Common Ground 2019", January 3rd to the 27th. Missy Reiner-Cameron is the curator. Various artists from Northern, Central Coast, and Southern California displayed their art. Their political views and abstract impressionism is displayed. The "Common Ground 2019" show gives artists a chance to share their views, fears, pain in a time that is very turbulent, very uncertain, and very dividing; all the meanwhile scratching away at the very core of what art represents and signifies. Art is a form of communication that invokes emotion, conversation, beauty in the eye of the beholder. It is a conversation that must never be silenced. Fantastic facility, Many amazingly talented artists' work on display. My kiddos attended a Kids Art Smart field trip. Jordan Hockett and his assistants were so great with the class, patient, attentive and encouraging. They did a 2 part project and even had a Snack and Story. A small, but charming little art studio across the street from the park that is definitely worth a visit. There is no "admission fee," per sé, but there is a suggested $2 "donation," which is more than worth it to keep the arts alive. Despite being a small town in the middle of the state, Paso Roblés actually has a thriving art community, and Studios at the Park is testament to that. Of course, if you are looking for some decorative pieces for your humble abode, everything is for sale! In a space no larger than an elementary school auditorium partitioned into smaller rooms, you will find various styles of art - many with the artist drawing/painting onsite - ranging from watercolor, pastel, oil, etc. Fans of nature and California geography are sure to find something to their liking, as it seems to be the most prevalent theme. One of my favorite sections belongs to the figure artist way in the back with his assortment of pencil-sketched realistic drawings of historical figures, celebrities models, etc., and even an elaborate re-creation of the Last Supper. His work doesn't come cheap, however, but for those who have the extra pocket cash, you are guaranteed to wow any visitors who may come your way. Another artist of note - actually two artists - are the guys in the very first booth on the right. Both have distinct styles, but are more of the pop art, graffiti inspired ilk that I am a huge fan of (RIP 5 Pointz!). Especially eye-catching is the myriad of "She-wolves," which are also plastered all over the front windows, and what initially brought me in the door. What I like most about small town art exhibits is that there is less of that snobbery found in either of the big cities to the north or south, and you get the sense that the artists here are - as clichéd as it sounds - simply doing it for the love of their craft. I really loved the concept of a beautiful space that highlights the hand-crafted work of local artists. Each artist had a little alcove where they could show their work. We just loved what we saw. People were very friendly. I can definitely see myself coming back to purchase some of the works. They're not cheap but I thought the pieces were very high quality. read more

Parking is on the street, first two hours free. All patrons are required to wear masks. Entry is free. The art selection is varied and extensive. There are water color paintings, charcoal sketches, acrylic designs, dressed, mixed media, photos, etc. We also appreciated that this gallery features the work of local students. We stumbled across Studios on the Park a few minutes before it opened on a Sunday It is a really cool space filled with different artists and styles. Some of the artists were there at the time creating, and a couple offered to answer questions and talk about technique. Though not much was really my style I appreciated what it had to offer. A free alternative of something to do in Paso besides wine. Most works were way out of my range (some crazy out) but it was still nice to gaze. My daughter with autism wanted an art party. After 2 days of phone calls, I was forced to cancel because it was too expensive. $20 per person + $60 just to rent the room. I typically don't go into art galleries. Sometimes I'll see a Kinkade gallery and browse for a minute, but usually I just admire the window display and keep walking. I could immediately tell this place was going to be worth going on. It was so cool!! Hand-in-hand with husband we entered and saw immediately that there were different "rooms" where artists could display and sell their own work. They were each personalized to individual artists. Some had paintings, some jewelry, photos, small furniture, etc. There was even a room in the back with art done by local children and small sculptures the kids had created. It was really neat! There was also a room with small art squares available for sale at a reduced rate for fundraising. I believe it was $50 for a square picture - some of them were 3D and they were all really fun to look at. So glad we took the time to walk around - I'll definitely go back in next time I visit the area since I'm sure the art is constantly changing. read more

Studios of the Park is a must-see whenever we visit Paso Robles. There is always new art created in variety of mediums, and you get to meet the artist. We got to meet Anne Laddon during our recent visit. Anne's art is amazing and she has both original and reproductions available, including note cards. She was such a pleasure to chat with. This is a great cooperative art gallery and group of studios of working artists who are all very available to answer questions and discuss their work. Aside from seeing excellent quality art, lessons are offered in various media. I personally have taken pastel classes from Carolyn Braun and acrylic classes from Bill Eckert. Both are accomplished artists and excellent teachers. Ken Christiansen, an affiliated artist will soon offer a plein air class as well. There are active "guilds" of photographers, pastel and watercolor artists, print makers and others that have regular meetings and encourage new members Lastly, an active art education program for local school-age children is ongoing and a real asset to the community. If you are in the area, this is a must visit place. You may even take home something you can't live without. read more

I discovered Studios on the Park while I was attending the Paso Robles Festival of the Arts in May, 2010, since part of the action was in the Studios. I was amazed that I have frequented Paso Robles on a regular basis and not known about this treasure right under my nose, across from the City Park. The studios are housed in what I remembered as defunct auto parts store so I was very surprised to learn it had changed to a group of artists' studios combined with a common gallery that has special exhibits. Several local artists maintain studios here which are open to the public between Thursday and Sunday each week. I love that fact that you can walk into the studios and meet and chat with the artists, and even buy art on the spot if you find something unsold that you like. Each studio is like a small gallery in itself, but there is usually an exhibit in the main hallway, as well, and another in a gallery rented by the Paso Robles Art Association. I have been to two artists receptions there and enjoyed seeing the variety of media our local artists use to produce their work. Often when I've been walking around I've seen workshops taught by the artists in their studios in progress or breaking up. Many workshops are offered to children in the community, as well as adults. If you enjoy art up close and meeting the people who make it, you should make a point of stopping by here next time you're near the City Park on a weekend. Admission to the studios is free, and whether you like painting, etchings, silver creations, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, or some other art form, you will probably find it here and possibly even watch while it is being created. It's a nice way to spend a weekend afternoon or early evening. Don't miss it. I go often. read more

My family and I stumbled upon this cute little gallery when we were exploring Paso Robles I have to thank my niece since it was her idea to come inside. When we came in we were welcomed right away. The gallery had several little studios with different types of art. What I personally thought was cool was that all the artist were present in their little sections creating more art work as well as explaining their art work to us. It is a no cover gallery they do take donations. Totally worth checking out and everyone should if you're in the area. read more

There is art in studios on the park for everybody there is such a selection, created by so many artists, in so many mini shops that it is almost overwhelming , and difficult to choose. But I think that is a blessing, he's surrounded why so much craftsmanship. This is a wonderful place to tour before dinner, have a nice dinner around the park, with the many choices, and come back to pick that treasure you have been talking about over dinner. read more

What a great place! Happened to randomly stop here one chilly day after a great weekend in the Paso area. Each artist has their own designated space where they can display their pieces as well as work! We stopped by on Sunday and many artists were in their studios at this time. It was almost like a walk thru art class! All the artists were very friendly and open to sharing their work and history. We spoke to two artist in great length, one who explained his process with relief prints (he was currently experimenting using linoleum rather than his normal cherry wood) and another who talked about his late wife as his inspiration (including how he met! and the classes he taught at my alma mater!). I would've spent more time there if the place wasn't closing. Given how warm the artists were, this seems like a good place to take some actual hands on classes (if only I lived closer!) :) read more

As a local and frequent visitor to Studio's on the Park I am constantly astounded by the high quality of art available here. It isn't a stuffy intimidating gallery like what you find in many big cities and art mecca towns. The artists are there to answer questions and demonstrate techniques in a relaxed and friendly manner. There is also a wonderful studio called Fine Craft that displays the work of about 30 artists from around the country some of whom are renowned in their fields like Silversmith Randy Stromsoe. This gem has been open in downtown Paso just under two years. We always make a point to stop in and see what is new when we visit. It is fun to see what the artists in residence have on display and the Art Association exhibit in the back has something for everyone.
