He was super friendly and very informative. It was enthralling to watch as he calmly sculpted the glass into different designs and glided seamlessly between the different equipment and tools. We love the rainbow wind chime with the glass panels attached to local driftwood that we've had for years. Harmony Glassworks offer wide variety of "wait, that's glass!?" items as well as everyday items like earrings, nail files, and magnets. SO MANY glass items to see (and buy). My daughter & I just took our first glassblowing class with Nate, and it was nothing short of incredible. Nate is kind, patient, a great listener and above all an EXCEPTIONAL teacher. Throughout the process, he validated us by saying,"that looks great," or "you're doing great," or "that looks perfect." Before the class began, Nate told us what we would do, how he would maneuver the glass, and all the ways to keep safe during the process. My daughter and I were both scared to mess up or drop the glass, but Nate helped us to see that he'd help us however we needed to ensure we had a beautiful vase at the end of our class. And we do!! It's such an amazing place selling hand blown glass products such as jewelry, cups, pictures, vases and much more. So many colors and shapes. So much to see and chose from. I purchased a miniature glass penguin and love it. So unique and cute. The Glass Works offers all sorts of hand blown glass objects, from tumblers to flowers. All the objects are lovely and crafted in the shop. The artisans work at furnaces walled off from the retail store, but easily in view of shoppers. See your gift being blown! The three of us each did our own lessons and the process for booking the lessons was very easy. I spoke and worked with Eric, Colton, and Nate(artist/instructor), they were phenomenal very professional, helpful, and great to work with. My kid and I had a blast, it's amazing to create something so unique and beautiful that is truly inspiring by one's creative mind and see the end result once it was ready. Nate instructed us individually as we each had our lesson, explaining safety, how the process and all the steps that go into creating a piece. We will definitely be returning and sharing with everyone, because this is truly a lost art, like so many others. I'm not going to lie, this is tucked away in a tiny town of only 18. I thought it might give me flashbacks and nightmares about my childhood growing up in a tiny town. But nope! This was the PERFECT place I came up here and stocked up on tons of wine from all the wineries up here and came across all these beautiful wine toppers. I hope none of my BFFs see this, because they will literally know their upcoming birthday and Christmas gifts. This place is awesome, they have an open area where you can watch the glass pieces be blown and they even have lessons where you can make your own (I don't know any of the details such as prices and what you get to learn / make) so I'd definitely call them ahead of your visit to plan accordingly. They have everything from ornaments, paperweights, yard decorations, glass pens, little glass animal figurines, vases, jewelry, marbles, beads and etc The customer service was beyond outstanding. I was so nervous coming into a place like this with my dog (she's in a stroller) but they were so dog friendly and amazing. Normally when I go to galleries and places like this in Laguna beach the place can be so stuffy and the people can be so rude. If you are ever in this area I highly recommend stopping by! They even have a little discount area attached to the side of the building. Some items were 25 dollars instead of 75. But then there was even bigger pieces such as vases and lamp bases that were 75 dollars but normally in the high hundreds. My mom surprised me and my 2 daughters with a private glass blowing class. First off the town of Harmony is adorable and worth the visit. I can not express the emotions that came over me to watch my children create what will be family heirlooms. The gentlemen that were taught the class and worked the showroom were amazing and made the whole experience even more amazing if that could be possible. Driving up the coast on Hwy 1 you'll find a small little town, population 18, named Harmony. Not a big town, basically a cul-de-sac and a magnificent winery. That being said, you must stop in to the Harmony Glassworks building! Here you will find amazing glass blown trinkets, ornaments, bowls, glasses, jewelry, and a wide arrangement of other gorgeous items for your home or gifts. While you are shopping, you can watch the glassblower doing his fascinating magic. I've been a handful of times and every single time he has been there working on pieces. So interesting and fun to watch. The shop can be found on the end of "downtown" to the left, you really can't miss it. Parking is along the street but still a short walk to any destination in Harmony. Prices are as expected for unique pieces. Ranging from $15 to hundreds. During non-Covid times they also offer lessons! Check their website, I'm sure once that is up and running again you'll be able to find out what to do. We stopped by the shop during COVID-19 so the glass workshop was not open and it was generally slow. A few months ago I watched a glassblowing presentation at the Chihuly Glass Museum in Seattle. I was in awe of the numerous qualities the artist possessed to successfully create just one finished piece of molten glass! Throughout the lesson he effectively communicated his vast technical knowledge in simple terms that we could understand. We learned about glass properties, heating techniques and glass blowing tools. His precise hand control manipulated the hot molten glass and tools while guiding mine to do the same! He was always mindful of necessary safety precautions and we enjoyed his funny banter and relaxed manner while doing such serious work. Harmony Glassworks has been one of our must-visit destinations over many years of visiting the central coast. The town of Harmony, population 18, is a lovely little stop off Highway 1 and the Glassworks is the highlight. Nate has been a fixture at Harmony Glassworks seemingly forever (sorry Nate, we know you are not *that* old!) and we always enjoy catching up with him. He is a skilled artisan and is always welcoming, patiently explaining what he is doing as he is blowing glass. On our latest visit, I was excited to learn that glassblowing lessons were again available after a Covid pause. I signed up immediately. I knew what I wanted to create and Nate agreed to the plan, even though he said that working with the white color I wanted would be a bit tricky (and it was!). The best part of lessons with Nate (apart from the great company) is that he really allows you to work with the glass yourself to the limits of your ability, guiding and helping where needed. Unlike some "classes" I have experienced in other venues, I really felt that I had contributed to the work myself, with expertly provided help. It was a blast and I am thrilled with the result - a lovely and very striking blue and white vase that has pride of place in our home. read more
