Best professional doctors as well as nurses and very kind and very friendly and makes you feel…read morecomfortable and get your procedure done ASAP

I want to clarify that prior to my most recent visit, I've never had a problem at this location…read more The problem I experienced could actually occur at any MRI facility. First, the positives: The MRI and other imaging locations can provide scans in a more timely manner, than if you were to go to the main hospital. Calling the offices directly (Chelsea and Waltham, or NWH), rather than going through the main radiology scheduling line, can often yield better results. You can get the numbers by calling main operator at MGH, & asking for the numbers to Chelsea or Waltham MRI The staff have been pleasant & easy to work with. The lockers are small (don't bring large coats or bags.) The changing rms are easily accessible, restrooms are clean and spacious. I've never experienced a long wait, but waiting rm is large and comfortable. Most of the time they can elevate your head a little upon request, which makes some more comfortable. This most recent visit, tech explained I'd be scanned in the new 3.0 Tesla machine. He told me image quality was superior, and l the machines were a bit more spacious. He told me I might feel a little dizzy upon exiting, because of the higher magnetic fields, but that it was normal. He also said it might be a little more noisy, and gave me ear plugs. The exam took a very long time, in part, because I moved due to discomfort, and because someone messed up re. the contrast dye, so they had to straighten that out while I waited. This was an hour of hell that I'll never repeat! While I appreciated having the tech warn me about the dizziness, that was far from the only concern. Yes, the machines offer a (only slightly) more spacious feel to them - but it's far from an open MRI - it's not worth it! It's EXTREMELY noisy. This is not a good thing for anyone who is even mildly anxious, because it's very difficult to focus away from it, and was dizzying in itself. One thing I wasnt told was how hot you feel while in the machine. I finally pushed the buzzer & asked if it was normal - I felt as if I was being burned. I was sweating & felt overcome by it. He then told me that it was normal, because the cells were all "excited" in my body, due to the higher mag frequency. I continued to try to endure it, although I noticed certain areas including my legs seemed to be much more hot than other areas. Yes, there is dizziness when exiting. Considering they have to roll you out while injecting the contrast - which causes dizziness, then roll you back in for another set of pictures after - lying flat and not moving is very uncomfortable. Between the heat and feeling so "woozy", I was also feeling nauseated. My face was scarlet, and the areas of skin where I'd felt most warm indeed had been burned. I felt very unsteady for the next several hours, was unable to safely drive, and continued to feel nauseaous. I also had a bad headache. I later researched my reaction by googling: "Tesla 3.0"+"burn" or using "Tesla 3.0"+"dizzy" or "effects" as the second term, and found a lot of disturbing information. There has been many reports of similar symptoms, sometimes leading to patients getting burned or having severe episodes of dizziness, hearing problems or headaches, sometimes lasting for a couple of days after. Even worse, I found that there has not been sufficient safety testing done to determine if implants and other devices/conditions, presumed safe for the original 1.5 MRI exposure, have not been proven safe in the new 3.0 machines. Some of them were urging for the testing to be completed prior to patient exposure. I don't understand why this didn't happen, but I will certainly never be subjecting myself to this again. If you need to have an MRI, When making appt, always ask if they have the new 3.0 Tesla machines, and ask if you can request the older 1.5 instead. Double check this during your appt, before they put you into the machine. The pictures generated from the 1.5 are excellent, so there should be no need for these uncomfortable, potentially dangerous machines to be used. If you've had a negative experience involving the new machines, call the MA Bureau of Healthcare Safety at (617) 753-8000. Every report received will help! Update following MGH response: My only complaints concerning MGHC specifically is that it was not disclosed to me that some implants, devices and med conditions deemed safe for the 1.5 havent been proven safe in the 3.0 machines. I also wasnt told before entering that I had a choice, and that the risks of the machine could incl persistent dizziness (not just upon coming out), nausea, headache, and heating could result in burns. This info is out there, and needs to be disclosed before patients go in. I'd advise that you do so in a signed consent form, to help reduce your facility from liability, if you choose to use these machines. I did speak to my dr, and he knew nothing about the new scanners and their effects. I will be following up. Thanks.

The CDI attendant, Jenna was incredibly understanding and helpful. At the time, she suggested I try an open MRI like they have at the CDI in Woburn. So I booked my appointment. I went today to my appointment, and the tech is again Jenna. She apparently works at both locations. She was again very patient and helpful. She understood my issue with space. Today she had a student with her name Chris. After they started the first image in the open MRI (open is a misnomer- it's still a tight space and an awkward situation to be on that machine. Once the first image began, I was again having a small panic situation so Jenna stopped and came in to talk with me. Chris offered to stay in the room and talk with me between images. This really helped. I made it through the six images. Both Jenna and Chris are not just nice and patient, they are KIND and that seems to be something that you don't find often enough these days. I can't thank them enough. Also, the cost of this seems to be a good value. The staff at the reception desk is also great. They make the whole experience easy and as low stress as possible. Let's face it, you get an MRI because you've got something going on and it's usually a stressful time. It's great to find a place that cares about making the process as easy and low stress as possible. I hope to not need an MRI again anytime soon, but if I do, I will be going back to CDI and I hope to have Jenna or Chris there helping me out.

I understand mistakes happen which is why I had my insurance company call Rayus the day before to let them know my MRI is fully covered and they provided a billing code. The Rayus employee said she'd update my ins coverage in their system. I followed up and also called Rayus a day ahead to confirm she knew my insurance covered MRIs 100%. But when I arrived at Rayus, they would not give me an MRI and insisted on charging $255. I called my insurance on the spot and put them on speaker. They informed Rayus my MRI was indeed covered 100%. They provided a billing code and timestamp from the call the day before. After I resolved the billing mixup, the Rayus employee said they never received a call from me or my insurance the day before. She lied. Then she said they were running 10 minutes behind and I had to reschedule. Since they caused the delay, I was stunned Rayus took no responsibility; forget an apology, they punished me by cancelling my appointment! I pleaded to keep my appointment because rescheduling meant a 2 week delay of a vital diagnostic test! I missed work for this MRI and the waiting room was empty but she didn't care at all. She callously and sarcastically said I could take my complaint up with her manager, Tami Cyr. That's what I'm doing.

An incredibly clean, modern facility, equipped with couches, a flat screen television and plenty of setting in the waiting room, it's a stark contrast to what I had been anticipating. I was seen on time and was taken back to a maze of dressing rooms and lockers. After a brief wait (and one hilariously giganticous hospital robe later), I was brought into the imaging room by two friendly and accommodating technicians. A little nervous and totally terrified after the last MRI, they reassured me this would be completely different and made sure I was entirely comfortable before starting. The full procedure took roughly 50 minutes and I was able to choose music to listen to during the process. The MRI itself was definitely a lot more comfortable than the closed machine we had attempted previously: I will warn you however, if you're claustrophobic and pick the open MRI, definitely snag a blanket 'cause it was frigid up in there. My only issue was after being told there would be no copay by both the referring physician's office as well as the previous imaging center who set up the appointment for me, I was charged $140. Which.. surprised me (and not in the good way). When I inquired about this, the receptionist informed me that my insurance changed and no longer covered MRI's copay free (which was also kinda strange since the difference in appointments was just a two day weekend). Later when I called my insurance they insisted there was no copay and claimed they were sending me payment. Overall, still, a good experience and totally recommended for those needing imaging done.

I was brought into an exam room at 3:14pm and sat there for over 30minutes before being seen by anyone. No vitals during that time, no triage, no one even popped their head in to say sorry we didn't bother seeing you at the time of your appointment it'll just be a few moments. Nothing. Yeah we get it, your schedule is dictated by patients...don't book so many appointments that you disrespect the patients time by delaying their schedules too. Nurse came in, knew half of why I'm here, seemed surprised by the other half. After 45 minutes of waiting we had vitals done and a urine sample. I didn't see the provider until nearly an hour after my appointment time. They treated me for one of the two issues I presented then shuffled me out the door without even discussing the second issue. To say I'm unhappy with the speed of service would be an understatement. That said, the provider took my input into consideration and we discussed treatment for the one issue to my satisfaction. Cleanliness is a plus and the staff was friendly. I liked the efficiency of online scheduling, paperwork and checkin so that's a plus. Clearly all of the information doesn't make it through though so maybe they should look at where the information blockage is. If you have all day to wait, feel free to make an appointment and be prepared to wait a long time while getting half the treatment. If you, like me, don't have time to wait then pick a different urgent care center (I've reviewed another one in this area) where they are faster and efficient but rude and judge mental.
