The salon was inviting and decorated nicely for the holiday. I had to wait about 20 minutes before my service began as Pattana finished up her previous service, but both Pattana and the girl at the front desk were apologetic and made me comfortable in the meantime in the waiting area. The bathrooms were clean and I was offered tea/coffee/water right away after coming in for my appointment. The salon also uses Aveda products, which I LOVE and are great for all hair different hair types. Pattana was a great stylist. She was warm and friendly and made sure that she knew exactly what I wanted for my cut. I hadn't had a haircut in several months and brought in photos of a long bomb on my phone. She made sure she looked carefully over the photos and that I understood how the haircut would frame my face and be different lengths in the front/back. I appreciated how much care she took to make sure I would be happy with the final result. Throughout the cutting process, she made sure I was okay with the length that was being taken off. When I wasn't sure if it was too much, she agreed to leave the length and to cut more later if needed. The end result was perfect. Thanks for a great cut, Pattana! I would definitely come back to her and to Mane Expressions after such a great first experience. The cut was $35 + tip and I left loving my new look!

She's funny and personable and does a great shampoo (one of my favorite things about getting my hair done). I no longer live out in Illinois but I have Angie do my hair whenever I go out to visit - it's totally worth it. Within minutes of leaving the salon I got numerous compliments on my hair. If you go ask for Angie! The other cool thing about this salon is that they also do manicures and pedicures so you can make it into a nice relaxing spa day if you want.

I don't cause scenes in a place of business; instead I turn to these media. Cherice did a disservice to me and my hair IMO. My previous hair stylist placed dark black streaks to contrast the white that was growing over the streaks. Instead, CS made 90% of my hair length so dark that I felt I had to cut my hair length bcs it would take so much time and processing to lighten; adding more damage; something I try to avoid. CS IMO tried to not take any responsibility for the result; I study body language. This was telling me she had nothing to offer; IMO she left it to me to decide she was no longer there to help me, she offered very little. My hair transition took a horrible turn. This took me almost 2 years to grow now its shoulder length no where near my desired result; I lost 2 years. Disappointed is a MAJOR understatement. I spent almost $300 on 2 visits. I will accept some responsibility, but I CANNOT SEE THE BACK OF MY hair. isn't that what we pay them to do, to be our eyes? Unbelievable is all I can say without going. Karen. I would like at least 50% of my money back, that won't happen. I'm not going back. Period. "

Not counting tip, the whole shebang was only $30!!!!!!! Also, she didn't hurt my head at all while washing/combing it; previously I'd kinda assumed that a teensy bit of soreness was to be expected getting your hair done. I went here before to another lady though I forget her name, and it was similar price range (I think $40?) and also good. If you've got long hair and like to keep it that way, and live in fear of stylists who'll chop off more than you asked, this place seems like a good choice. They're two for two on keeping my bra-strap length hair about that length. All the different stylists offer different services and charge different prices, so it might be a good idea to call in advance to find out what you're in for. I walked in both times I've gone. Overall prices seem very reasonable though! Right now I have ombre/balayage color that cost me over $300 on the west coast; In the town I was in, basic service of that kind generally starts at $150. I didn't get it here, but I asked my stylist how much that might cost at their place, and she said it started around $85! The salon itself has a nice-looking and comfortable environment for the price range. They sell cute little hair ornaments, and seem to feature a lot of Joico products. Overall, I feel like this place is a hidden gem here in Rockford if you're looking for a classic cut and great value.
