I've had a good experience at Studio 14's Bandland in Essex, MD for the past year and a half. The monthly rate for renting the practice room is very reasonable, the space is well maintained, and various requests that we had regarding the practice room were met, which left us very satisfied. For instance, we needed an AC unit for the room, let the owner know, and within a week or two had one in the room. We wanted a lock put on the practice room's door, and that was done promptly, along with getting a set of keys for it. The previous band in the room left the carpet musty, so that was taken out quickly as well. The space is secure and requires key cards to get into the main parking area. We never had any issues with other bands using the space, either. It was hassle-free getting to and from the practice room at any time of the day, and there's even a dope Mexican food place called Vargas that's only 5 minutes away that the band has been frequenting heavily. My one complaint - the soap in the bathroom should be changed more often. For that reason I'd give a 9/10, but I'll round up since we are doing a 5-star scale. read more

Studio 14 IS NOT CLOSED! We've been tenants with rehearsal space in various room for over 10 years. Keys, alarm codes and keycards provide 24 hour access to the site and to your space. Scotty's is fair to work with. There are also two new large rehearsal spaces available for show prep on a nightly rental basis. Check Studio 14 out and decide for your self! AW read more

My friends and I rented a room from Scott Gately at Studio 14 for about 2 months. All was going well until Scott, the owner, broke our privacy rights and barged into our room unannounced and unprovoked. He then proceeded to assault my bandmates while intoxicated and completely trashed all of our equipment, spraypainting every piece of gear we owned. In trying to negotiate with Scott, he only continued to use profane insults and more violent threats that put the safety of me and my bandmates at risk. This was hands down the most blatant disrespectful and unprofessional experience I have ever had, and would advise any local musicans to steer very clear of doing business with Studio 14, Scott Gately, or any of its related buildings and businesses. read more

I would just like to pass on a top rating to Scott Gately,at studio 14 for being a fair and honest business man,as well as an all around good guy.I been renting space from him for the past 3 years,and have never had any problems in all that time.Like I said, the guy is always around if you need something, like when the a/c went up it was fixed the next day.Again, my experience at the studio has been nothing but positive! I have rented a band rehearsal studio space from Tom and Scott at Studio 14 for almost 5 years now. The rooms themselves all have their own unique character, and you have 24-7 access with your own keycard. The landlords are the coolest ones I've ever dealt with, very quick to respond to any complaints/questions. The prices are fair; we rent a nice spot for $250, which is SO worth it for the protection your gear has, and the amount of noise you can make, at all hours. To the right of that in the same room is another place to shoot, where you can bring down the paper background. It's a well-lit room and my favorite room to shoot in. Room 2: This is a smaller room. You can pull down the paper backdrops as well. It's a great place for a small "Youtube" video session, a podcast, or stationary shots since it's tinier. Room #3: This is a themed vintage room (picture is below). There is a typewriter, plush chairs, and an old style telephone. It reminds me of selfie-world NoVa DC. Parking nearby on the weekend is $10 for the parking garage. I wish they had more props for models to use in their photos are play with. They had a few plants on the ground and a white box to sit-on. But, apart from that, I recommend that you bring your own props. A few photos by @rossstreetphotography taken here are attached.

They were very accommodating and prompt in communication. I was a long-distance bride, so having their punctual responses to emails / phone calls was very important to me. They showed up early on the day-of, had everything set up on time, and even set up an outdoor sound system for my ceremony music (my family performed, but they came through with a full sound system, keyboard, and speakers). My family isn't really a DJ family, so I was looking for something more unique and personal. I listened to a few multiple-piece bands, but I couldn't really tell them apart. Then I found Cutting Edge - they were exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciated that they were interactive and read the audience very well. They played piano renditions of whatever songs were requested, which made it even better. There were songs that I never would've thought could've been played on the piano - but they were awesome versions, even better than the original! They did a lot of fun dueling pianos-things, and even made my husband stand up and sing the chorus to "Let It Go" from Frozen, because one of the toasts mentioned that he knew the words to the song. They played and sang, then put him on the spot when the chorus came and just stopped singing. Everyone loved it! You could never do that with a DJ! I got so many compliments on their performance, and really, I can't emphasize enough how different it was that even my aunts and uncles were out on the floor dancing. It was so unique and fun; I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who's interested.

I had a vintage hollow body that needed a re-fret and made the long drive to drop the guitar off…read more The good = the removal of the frets, and re-planing of the fretwork is the cleanest and most conservative I've ever seen. He also pinned the floating bridge in a really neat, clean, and innovative way. The turn time was less than two weeks. The bad = The final charge was over $100 over the estimate, and they didn't inform me of this before hand before I made the long drive to pick it up. The new frets were too high and not crowned properly, so it was painful to play. The frets were squared off and not rounded. I couldn't afford the time and money to make the drive again to have this corrected, so I had to pay somebody else to correct the work (by leveling and re-crowning the frets). I now have to ship my guitars out of state for fretwork since there is nobody good in the DC/Baltimore area aside from a few hobbyist working out of their homes. I've definitely seen worse fret work than this, like I said, I was impressed with the care taken with the removal of the old frets and re-planing the fretboard. But the re-fret felt incomplete to me and the extra unexpected charge was a kick in the gut.

A old 1980s Kramer solid body six string with Floyd Rose whammy emerged from a family closet…read more Something/someone had gotten into the pots and wiring harness. It was ugly. When plugged in the guitar made no sound. As a possible first timer, I called the shop and was referred to Zack. We talked and I explained the problem. While talking, I got the sense that he knew what to do. New wiring harness. New pots. Setup. I brought the Dead Kramer in, having stripped out the wiring harness. Zack told me, probably two weeks. As I left, I saw pots in blister packs for sale on the wall behind the cash register. That gave me confidence that this was the right place. About a week and a half in I called and he told me it would be ready by the end of the week. I waited until the beginning of the next week. I did have to go back to get the Floyd Rose handle, but no big deal. Zack had it. The Kramer is now in the hands of a 13 year old who is learning Rush licks and Dropped D tunings. Mission Accomplished. I'll be back.

What an aweful place. The owner is super nice, until you sign the lease. Then his true colors come out. Don't ever pay in cash without getting a receipt. He has tried to rip me off a few times, saying I didn't pay and charging late fees. He doesn't remember because he is always drunk. Drunk, loud, annoying, rude......YOUR STUFF IS NOT SAFE IN THIS PLACE. Eventhough the doors are locked, somehow equipment goes missing. (probably because the owner can still get in your room and steal and then sell your stuff for drug money.) RATS will chew through cords and it smells like mold, mildew and death. Your equipment, if not stolen, will get messed up just from the poor environment inside. If you like doing drugs though, this is the place for you. There's even a drug dealer that lives there. Is that place even zoned for residentual living? Several people have died from overdoses in that place over the years. And they have pot plants 6 foot tall growing upstairs. Not a good place at all. Pay a little more and rent somewhere else. AWEFUL!!!! read more

Just wanted to take a moment to give a HUGE thank you to Scott Gately, for going above and beyond with his most excellent service that he provides the local music community! I've been renting from Scott for many years now, and he has always been extremely professional, courteous, and quick to respond to any issues that may occur from time to time. To me, Studio 14 is an awesome place to practice for many reasons, but not being able to practice at my house, I never had to worry about my gear not being safe or secure given the card entry gates and doors, pin code, double locks, and security cameras. This is such peace of mind! I have and will continue to recommend Studio 14 to any of my friends that need a top notch place to practice. Thanks again Scott!!! read more

I've been going to studio 14 for more than 15 years now. They have a great PA system and a huge space with great backline gear. I also like the private bathroom in the Hourly rehearsal studio. They just opened up the recording. Roger Stewart is an excellent engineer. We are very happy with the recordings. We have done and use them as our promo. Simply the best in Baltimore! read more

smells like old michelob and roadkill. came here to rehearse with my friend and got wet from leaky pipes. also the owner was there and made everyone really uncomfortable. no wonder this place got shut down for healh violations a few years ago. should've stayed that way if ya ask me read more

A great business made better by the new owner, Roger Stewart. Roger bought the business after the shutdown in 2016. Great secure parking, lots of it, so important! Lots of it. New bathrooms and large hourly room equiped with a awesome PA and gear. read more
