Lowlander just hijacked our taste buds and took them on a one-way joyride to Flavor Town,…read morepopulation: us, permanently. My husband swung by to pick up takeout for us, and holy smashburgers, Batman; we were NOT ready. Owen behind the counter was an absolute gem: friendly, quick with solid recommendations, and even tossed in a few local events we should hit up while we're bouncing in and out of Missouri for work. Made us feel like regulars on our very first visit. I ordered the "What's the Big Dill" smash burger because I, too, enjoy living deliciously. People, this burger should be illegal in at least seven states. The patty? Seasoned so perfectly I'm pretty sure it whispered sweet nothings to my soul. Then they slather on dill ranch and crown it with fried pickles that crunch like gossip. The bun? Perfectly behaved: soft, light, there to hold the party together without trying to be the main character. Fries were hot, crispy, generously seasoned; basically everything you want fries to be when they grow up. Meanwhile, my husband ordered the Portobello Prime French Dip and I have never seen a man inhale food like that. I looked up to ask for a bite and was met with an empty wrapper and a guilty finger in his mouth because he literally tried to eat faster than his own hand could keep up. Direct quote: "I think I just inhaled a sandwich and I'm not even sorry." The au jus alone deserves its own standing ovation. Lowlander is officially OUR place every single time we roll through Missouri (and yes, we're already plotting how to make "multiple visits per trip" happen). Don't ever change, Lowlander. Don't you dare. Seriously good food, seriously nice people. We're hooked. See you very, very soon. Next time I'm taking photos!

We sat at a high top and had a few of the big screens behind the bar and the keno numbers. Just there for an early dinner. Service was great! Friendly and fast. Ordered the Poutine for an appetizer-so good. Very large portion! Hubby had the Foghorn Leghorn-he said it was ok. I had the Tavern Smash and thought it was pretty good. We enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere! Would definitely try it again!
