Quick Summary: Jim runs an exceptionally professional business, and I would gladly hire him again…read morefor any job to improve my household. He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

We hired Brown's for the rebuild of our deck after moving into our new home. It took a while to…read morecoordinate a time to meet with Jim, but he was very professional right from the start and provided the most competitive pricing for the job. As a property manager myself, I appreciated his clean contracting process - he'll print out two copies so both you and he can sign, he'll document the down payment amount and check number (and sign), he'll get his insurance agent to provide you with a COI right after, and keep you updated regularly throughout the project and will document any change orders with updated payment schedules. Our deck project became complicated by obvious grading/drainage issues and sunken footers at the adjacent porch that the deck is flush to, which caused our project cost to increase significantly. Some would say that the change in scope is a pricing tactic, and maybe it is for some, but not Jim. He carefully explained and showed us the issues, then helped prioritize them so we knew what really needed to be addressed and what could wait. His sub was great - always on time, productive as hell, and maintained a tidy worksite. You could tell the sub really cared about their work and Jim made it a point to stop by to check in. The end result is a beautiful deck that we cannot wait to furnish and use. The experience with Jim was so great that we will call him when we're ready to bid out our master bath and kitchen reno. He's a good human.

Jesse designed a beautiful bathroom and David and his crew were excellent - very friendly and professional. The door to the store was open and upon entering, I saw two sales associates seated behind their desks. They didn't even lift their heads when we walked in; so of course, no "hello" or "welcome in". Oh, and they both had earphones in! They obviously did not want to be disturbed by questions or comments from any potential customers. As we made it to the back portion of the store, finally one of the sales associates sitting at her desk in the back told us to let her know if we needed anything. I hate to explicitly call someone out like this, but the other sales associate was SO rude to us. She is Asian, had wired earbuds in, and her desk is right behind the quartz samples. She had an extremely snobby attitude and was very dismissive of us. After we told her a little bit about our bathroom remodel, she just said, "Well, good luck" with a bratty tone. I would definitely not recommend wasting your time to stop in here; don't come in even if you just want to browse. The sales associates at D'Fine can't be bothered to greet you when you walk in, so they obviously couldn't handle getting up from behind their desks to show you samples & materials to start your design. I have seen teenagers run stores better than this. They have some pretty materials here, but the attitudes of the sales associates need a major fix. Seriously so off-putting and gross- don't come in here.

The perimeter of the store features heavily tiled kitchen and bathroom showrooms so shoppers can get an idea about tile size, shape, material, how to mix them in a single space, etc. The middle of the store is where all of the tile options are displayed and nicely labeled. The "meat of the store" is mostly organized by tile type - natural stone, ceramic and porcelain, accent tiles, glass tiles, etc. They are also arranged by color. So you if you know you want black marble all of those options will be together. The signage at The Tile Shop is well done. Each piece of tile I looked at was displayed with a tag that gave the price, material, size, thickness, recommended usage, country or origin and other details like if it was part of a collection. Also, some tile is stocked on site and can be taken home immediately - there is signage for those items too. A final point on signage, today I noticed that they also have stickers on some tile showing what they considered to be "Everyday Value" - the store's favorite budget friendly tiles. Service was friendly and welcoming, not overbearing on my most recent visit. I just wanted to wander the aisles but had I needed help I could see that there were staff standing by ready to jump in.

After reading reviews on Yelp we decided to go to HB Marble & Granite. As other Yelpers noted, their showroom is not fancy which is fine by me because I don't really want to pay for a fancy schmancy showroom. Huseyin and his son (presumably) were very friendly and let me crawl around their remnants and slabs. When I visited HB Marble & Granite Huseyin was running the wet saw and stopped to help me. I liked that not only does he run his own business but he also has the knowledge to cut stone and willingness to get a little wet and dirty. Although I was hoping to possibly use a remnant for my project in the end I went with a new slab of quartz. The quartz got stuck in the port in New Jersey so my project ended up a little bit delayed but Huseyin was very apologetic and communicative on the issue. I know he was frustrated by the situation too but he did everything he could to get that slab to his shop. And when the slab did arrive, it immediately went on the table for cutting and my countertops were installed hours later! I really admire that Huseyin expedited my job as soon as he had the materials. I was very pleased with the installers. They were friendly and respective of my home. The workmanship was top notch. I've had granite and quartz installed on numerous occasions and I was really impressed with their work and how clean they kept the work area. Overall, my experience with this local, small business was great!
