We were upgrading to a king bed and wanted to buy solid wood furniture made in the US. We found Stuart David and drove from the Bay Area to look at their showroom. The furniture displays were extensive and the salespeople friendly. We found the perfect bed set and they were able to customize for us. When we were in the showroom, we noticed that their Murphy beds looked like ones we had purchased 12 years ago at a local store. Sure enough we checked our receipt and they were from Stuart David. It is still in excellent condition so I felt even more confident ordering from them. Our furniture was delivered today and is beautiful! One of the most essential parts of a successful business is customer service. It begins with responding to inquiries. I wrote a detailed letter with pictures requesting some information about Murphy beds. I live over two hours away from Ceres and have no desire to drive out to find their product is not what I seek or not affordable in the context of my desired budget. Similar to Tony A.. who wrote a review on October 12 of this year, I have been ignored. Either business is so great they need not respond to inquires placed on their website or this is just a business that does not know how to provide customer service. If they are that successful, more power to them. If they expect people to drive for greater than 2 hours/120 miles to learn about their products, they have certainly overestimated me and likely others.. Walked into this store in Ceres and found something custom for our fireplace that could be created. Discussed the item with the owner and his daughter several months back and have tried to reach out to them via phone and email to follow up with ZERO response. Not sure if it was us, their perception of our economic ability to pay for the item or just they are busy. It would have been nice just to receive a phone call or return email from them stating the reason for the delay or just they did not wish to take on the project. We recently purchased two IMG chairs from Stuart David. These chairs are our second set of the same chairs.... We sold the first set prior to moving out of state... BIG MISTAKE! We loved these chairs... We received the new set of chairs and love them! After receiving these chairs, a couple months later we noticed a small separation in a seam on the fabric. We provided pics to Stuart David and they immediately responded and have set up a home repair to take care of the issue. We have dealt with Stuart David several times in the past and they are by far the best furniture store within a hundred miles! (probably a lot more!) Be careful with this company. They want 50% down and then constantly change the delivery schedule claiming a different story each week. 5 weeks past due (13 weeks so far) and I got another story from them today. The quality appears to be decent but I get the impression they may be short on capital and their suppliers have them on a short leash. When they did a partial delivery to us they asked us to pay the full balance on items we still have not seen. (We only agreed to pay the balance of items that are delivered). Update to original review and response to owners post. I think the problem is a training issue with staff. Promising 8 weeks then turning into 15 is not acceptable. 1. Set realistic expectations. 2. When time lines push, communicate honestly with the customer. (My calling each week and getting a different ETA and excuse is unacceptable as a sustainable business process) I did receive a call from the owner explaining that the person I was talking to was new. The furniture has arrived and other than a small issue on pulls that is being handled ( no pun intended:-) you just cannot beat the quality of their products. Also to note the delivery team is outstanding and give your furniture great care. Top notch employees on that truck!!! I am sorry I had not got back to getting this update done sooner. In the end, if you want real generational quality furniture Stuart David is the place to go. Looking for a solid wood dining room table, we were very happy that we visited SDHF. This establishment will not let you down. Their all wood products exceed expectations. Although you must traverse through colorful neighborhoods to get to their Showroom, you will not be disappointed once you get there. Originally only looking for a table and chairs, we also purchased a desk for our son. All pieces are definitely heirloom quality. Table and chairs have already been delivered. After spending an hour or two one day helping my niece look for an Amish furniture store in the Modesto area, I finally gave up and modified my search criteria, to time looking for craftsman/mission style furniture. I shortly found Stuart David in Ceres. Yelp reviews looked hopeful and so I suggested we give it a try. She was impressed with the quality, as was I. Plus, the showroom is as nice as other reviewers have already pointed out. And before I forget, they manufacture much of the furniture on site, so you are definitely helping the local labor market if you purchase from Stuart David. Admittedly, I am not very fond of oak, preferring cherry mostly for furniture. BUT, I surprised myself when I found a beautiful bedroom set made of quarter-sawn oak, yes oak. We spent a lot of time looking around the expansive showroom and then on the way home my niece commented that they have lived in Modesto for over 20 years and she didn't know this place existed and she wanted to go back in a few days with her husband, which they did. He was surprised too. What a find! My niece will be ordering new furniture from Stuart David, however, she will not be doing so until sometime in the Spring after they have had time to save up. It only costs you a little gas and some time to stop by the showroom, so go take a look if are looking for a higher quality of furniture than what you'll find at the cut-rate places. Customer service is definitely not a priority at this place. We went in looking for couches for our family room. Not once did the employees approach us to ask what we needed. As a matter of fact, the employee passed us 3 times and didn't even greet us. After we approached him, the man seemed he was irritated that we even asked. We went to this furniture store, even though it's located in a bad part of town, because we found couches on their website that were nice. We asked for a tie back sofa and the employee stated he needed to see what it was we found as they didn't carry all the items in the store. He said he would not be able to help us until he knew the manufacturer of the sofa. He did not offer to show us what they had in store based on the description we offered him. We asked him for a catalog to look though and he refused to show us. It took us 10 minutes to maneuver through their website and found the couch that we liked. He stated they didn't carry it and he would have to show us something similar. We asked about the fabric at which time he took us to a wall of over 300 different swathes of fabric. He would not offer suggestions or advice as to which are commonly used or what we were looking for. We asked about the price of the couch and even then he couldn't give us an answer. When I asked him why the process of finding a couch was so unfriendly, he stated he couldn't answer my question and walked away. We were not done looking but I suppose he was done helping us. He didn't say anything but just walked away and left us standing there. When he got back to the counter he started talking to the fellow female employee about us and turning back to make sure we were listening. We were ready to purchase couches today but I supposed we didn't look like we could afford the couches in the store he worked in! I will be sure to share with all my family and friends about your horrible service and lack of effort to treat all your customers fairy. Shame on you for the way you treated us today!!! read more

The showroom is beautiful and some of their wood furniture is made on site. There are many options to choose from in style and color, and at least three types of wood available. The quality is exceptional, and I love buying a product that is made in the USA. Also, the gentleman who has helped us each time is helpful and friendly. He's not pushy at all, but is available to answer questions. The showroom driveway is a little hard to see until the last moment, but it is on a not-so-busy street, so it is easy to turn around in the next driveway. The outside looks like a warehouse, but the inside is beautiful. As you might expect, the prices are somewhat higher than at the common furniture store, but the furniture is quality-made of solid wood. I look at it as an investment. read more

When I said the drawer was a little shallow for our needs he said they could customize it to the size we needed. We made several customizations to get exactly what we wanted. Mark was very helpful and accommodating through the whole process. Shopped a lot of other furniture stores and found pieces that were close, but not exactly what we wanted. Since Stuart David manufacturers their own furniture, they were able to make customizations to give us exactly what we wanted. I'd certainly have to agree that staff on hand is less than impressive, and less than polite or helpfull. But I went for the furniture, not to hang with the help. We just made quite the drive out to the showroom because my wife saw an entertainment center she liked online. I was truly impressed and this will be the only place we buy our furniture from now on. Fantastic showroom! I purchased a sofa and a recliner that features a power device that allows it to fully recline. Also purchased two bookshelves that are superbly made and which fit precisely next to both sides of the fireplace. We purchased a Murphy Bed after it was installed we see 9 large black bolts on each side plus a cut out 1 inch by 4 inches. It looks very un-professional . I called to ask were are the caps to cover the un-sightly bolts and why the cut outs. Answer we do not have cap tops and that is how we make it. We never saw it , because they show it with book cases on each side. Clearly we are not happy. We paid a lot for this Murphy bed and planned on getting one more . What a disappointment. Yes the quality of furniture is exceptional however the staff is unprofessional, indifferent, uninspired, and unmotivated to assure a satisfactory customer experience. We came in looking for an entertainment center explained what we were looking for and how we wanted it designed. The quote provided was inaccurate excluding obvious items such as the top of the Entertainment Center and other miscellaneous items. When brought to the staffs attention the quote came back 50% higher. They clearly use a "Bait & Switch" tactic. We were also interested in a 9 piece dining set priced as "Floor model only". When we were ready to make our purchase of the Entertainment Center we also wanted to purchase the 9 piece dining set floor model. They refused to sell it as advertised stating that it was up to their discretion to sell the item or not. They promptly put the pricing back on the table to deceive another customer.
