We worked with Shawn and his crew to figure out our best options, and come up with a plan to cover our backyard patio. The installation was pretty smooth. Shawn was able to answer questions, and check in on the progress as the crew worked. This review is long over-due. We had our backyard fully re-modeled last year going into this year. It was a big project and the pergola was the center piece and big focus. The pergola was built on a custom raised concrete area and had a TV wall built inside of it, so communication between struxture and the liaison landscape team was critical to getting this whole thing done. I have to say, Shawn, the struxture team, and liaison team were some of the best I have ever worked with in any of my projects throughout the years. Shawn was on top of every single detail and answered my 1000 daily questions. I basically had him on speed dial for the entire project due to the complexity of it (and my OCD) and he simply handled every single thing and then some. I changed my mind on about 20 different things and he walked me through every step, process, color, configuration, pricing, etc. He would answer or return my calls immediately, emails would be answered asap, he would explain every detail and never upsell me. If this is your first big project, you might not understand how rare this is, especially in the Bay Area. If you know, than you can appreciate doing a big project with someone you can get in contact with at anytime for any reason with no shady salesman tactics. His team came in and did an amazing job. No BS, no messing around, they arrived early and left late. They were quiet, focused, and I can tell have done this a million times. Watching the whole thing go up and the overall process was amazing. The end result speaks for itself. It is the showpiece of our backyard. We, essentially, now have an entirely new, swanky, super solid outdoor 10' x 20' entertaining and chill-out space. From the very first meeting - until long after our StruXure was built - Shawn and everyone on the StruXure team were (and continue to be) incredible. Everyone is HONEST, professional, friendly, respectful, thorough, and meticulous. The quality of work and craftsmanship, I believe, could not be matched by another company. We could not have had a better experience. Seriously, DO IT! Hire them. You will NOT be disappointed. *************************** THE LONG VERSION / DETAILS... WHAT TYPE OF STRUXURE DID WE HAVE BUILT? So, we live in a mid century modern Eichler home, which has a pitched roof. I was hellbent on having the exact same pitch (% percentage) for the StruXure. Somehow, despite a myriad of potential issues due to the louvers, motor load, water drainage, etc..., Shawn and the engineering team magically pulled it off. Our StruXure, again, is 10' x 20'. It is powder-coated steel (bronze). We have "smart louvers" which can be operated with a remote, but are also attached to a rain sensor, and will automatically close if it starts to rain. (This is important as we spent a small fortune on outdoor furniture.) We have 9 overhead lights and a ceiling fan (which Shawn was able to get to hang perfectly straight, even though our roof is slanted). And they even installed a courtesy outlet (to plug in phones, electrical cords, etc.) PERMITS We live in Concord and the city requires a permit for nearly everything you do on your property. (Seriously, if I plant a succulent in our yard, I'm worried Concord city folks will throw a pillowcase over my head, shove me into the back of a van, and haul me down to the city office.) They are sticklers. Shawn was willing to call the city while in the planning stage just to verify everything they wanted to do was kosher. StruXure has an architect/engineer who then provided every possible document imaginable to aid in the permit process. Specs, site drawings, architecture drawings, seismic and electrical information ... everything. When it came time for our site inspection(s), we passed with flying colors. WHO WILL WORK ON SITE? Several contractors/vendors I have dealt with (namely, with our pool) had GREAT salespeople to rope us into signing a contract. They then sent out a crew of folks who could haven given two, you know ... poops ... about the quality of work or the state of our property. Some crews I've dealt with are downright rude and condescending (especially if you are a woman). StruXure is different. When it came time to do the actual work, Shawn was often onsite - especially during crucial parts of the build. However, when he wasn't able to be here, I had FULL confidence in Juan, StruXure's foreman - and for that matter, the entire building crew. It is apparent Juan has years upon years of experience. He, like Shawn, is incredibly detail-oriented. There were decisions that Juan and the rest of the crew made that created a bit of extra work for them, but they did it anyway to ensure our StruXure would be solid. They do not take shortcuts. Period. And they were friendly and respectful to boot. No one on the team treated me, at any time, like I was an idiot. (If you're a woman reading this, you understand what I mean.) CARE, WARRANTY & ONGOING SUPPORT After the StruXure was built, we were sent a detailed email with information as to how to properly care for the StruXure, and a link to register our StruXure for its warranty. The warranty covers: Power components = 5 years: Manual system components = 10 years; Support components = 10 years, and the actual outdoor system is warranted for the lifetime of the system against manufacturing defects. We recently had our pergola completed in the back yard and we are extremely pleased with the outcome. The process does take some time to get through and requires an electrician to assist in the installation, but Marcus and team did a great job integrating all the various aspects. We started considering shade covers what seemed like forever ago. Our new home had full afternoon sun and it made the back portion of our yard and back interior side of our home unbearable during hot/sunny days. We needed a permanent shade cover option but I was concerned that it would make the interior of the house dark. I came across a louvered Struxture online and knew it would be the perfect fit. I found Shawn's contact information somewhere and managed to catch him on my first phone call. He thoroughly explained how the cover worked and touched on price. With my very limited knowledge of shade cover pricing, I was surprised what an investment it was. Fast forward 2 years. We continued to live in the house for another hot summer or two and knew we needed to do something. We reached out to Shawn again who came out and walked the area with us for size ideas and brought along color samples. Bonus, just days later we were able to get an in person demonstration at their showroom in Concord which was really convenient since we live in neighboring Clayton. It really helped us envision how the structure looks and feels. We decided we had to have one. Shawn was informational but never pushy, professional and precise. We finally ordered the Struxture and knew that we were months out. We waited but Shawn checked in periodically with updates so we never felt we were left hanging. When we finally received the call it was game time, we were excited. When the install finally started, it was seamless. The crew showed up on time for a solid 9 days and never baulked at the audience of toddlers that loved watching them do their thing.
