I have been diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis, fairly mild so far except for the impact of malnourishment to my once-thick healthy hair, which now has bald spots, breakage, and thinning. My shoulder length auburn hair was my best feature and frequently commented on - I was devastated. I did some research and decided that a human hair topper would be the best solution and found a place that had great reviews. I ended up paying $4k (!!!) against my better judgement - it was a LOT of money for me. It is a very long story - the salon closed the day I picked up my hair topper. Sadly, it practically disintegrated within a few months of occasional wear, ending up thinner than my own hair! I was told it was not returnable. I recently begged my husband to let me try again, as my birthday, Mother's Day, and next Christmas present. ;) I ended up at Strut Hair Solutions in Solana Beach. Marisol helped me and found the perfect hair topper for me that did not require any extra work - no trimming or coloring! The other clients in the salon commented repeatedly how natural it looked. And even though I still believe it is a LOT of money, it was half the cost of the first one I bought that disintegrated within a few months. My search for a wig journey began in 2021 after losing 60% of my hair from having severe covid the end if 2020. Over the last 4 years I have watched hundreds of wig reviews on YouTube, and have purchased 5 wigs. I wasted so much money. The wigs were beautiful, but I felt they looked hideous on me. When I arrived Meghan greeted me and showed me to a very nice room and had me fill out a short questionnaire about my concerns and previous wig experience. There is absolutely no replacement on YouTube for an in person consultation with Meghan. She is patient, kind and very knowledgeable about wigs. She taught me how to use a wig grip and how to properly put on a wig. She also taught me how to properly measure my head for a perfect fit. Strut has a wide selection of wigs that come in a variety of cap construction, colors, lengths, types of hair and styles. Meghan helped me to find hair to try on by explaining cap construction and fibers and how considering these make a difference in the wig wearing process. Meghan had me try on my three picks and we discussed each one. Most importantly she really listened to me when I explained what I wanted. Next, we found a color I really liked in the perfect style. I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2021. I underwent chemotherapy and as a result lost all of my hair. I went to Strut Hair looking at the real wigs but felt at the time it was too expensive. Later I found out my insurance covered up to $1000 in "cranial prosthesis". You need to use this terminology rather than "Wig" in order for insurance to cover it. If I knew what I know now, I would of purchased the real hair wig rather than the multiple synthetic wigs that I purchased. I basically spent the same amount when you add it up. It would of been nice to know this before I started purchasing wigs. Now, in 2024 I am cancer free. My hair has begun growing back much thicker and fuller, but is now in an awkward stage. I remembered that Strut also sold hair pieces, (pony tails, extensions, etc.) I went back and picked up a couple of cute pieces today and remembered I needed to post a review. They are always super helpful in there. It is best to have an appointment, so you get the full treatment. The owner here is so obnoxious and unhelpful. Dropped 2K on hair here that was terrible. She's very pushy. Rude and nosy had a horrible attitude. I shouldn't even bought the hair but it was for special occasions so I was in a rush I do regret it haven't even worn since. What a perfect surprise today! I had an idea to return to Struts to look at Halo extensions. I returned after 3 years of a previous purchase I wanted for a wedding and had such a great experience then! I left a voicemail message and received a return call within minutes by Marisol. She welcomed me to explore and learn about my request, the Halo extensions. Marisol listened to my request and the fun began! She explained in detail after listening to my ideas and took her time with many choices. She had a variety of solutions to any choices I preferred, even if the color needed to be changed. She brought up reasons that made so much sense about each choice, yet always focusing on my responses. I've bought two hand tied wigs from the store manager at this shop, each costing over $500. The second one they had in the back of the store and I was assured it was new. I've had trouble wearing it because it gets in my face so much. I suspected it wasn't brand new since it couldn't be found online anywhere. I didn't contact them because I knew they wouldn't admit it wasn't new and I couldn't prove this. I decided to have it styled by a professional alternative hair stylist and learned that the wig wasn't new when I bought it because it obviously had already been trimmed and it had been done poorly. I will never go back to Strut because of their dishonesty which cost me over $500. The receipt clearly states "all sales are final" and "No return on items taken or worn out of the store. No exceptions." The owners claim that the wig could have been returned within 30 days is another example of the dishonesty of this shop. read more
