Dinner is unbelievable, a full three course meal for £10 - I dont know how they do it. Good choice too. Ok not haute cuisine, but very acceptable. Would have been at least £20 anywhere else. They could possibly go up market a bit with the food, and might get more locals coming out for an evening meal it could be they don't bother because its so cheap ! In otehr words, maybe counter - productive. But what a let down at breakfast. Not many hotels do a hot buffet successfully and this was one of the worst. Too much bacon in the tray meant all the stuff on top was cold, and its was poorly cooked , anaemic, fat not cooked at all , and also horrid sausages, which seemd to have no meat content, and be primarily filler and monosodium glutamate. Egg was gelatinous scrambled stuff. I realised too late that a fried egg was possible only to special order, but then it would have been a wait , and I already had a plateful of stuff. Why didnt the breakfast receptionist mention fried eggs were available ? The fried bread was also the worst ever, the crust around it was so solid it couldnt be cut without the table shaking so then your coffee (mediocre) spills over . What a pity , a good breakfast would have meant a 5 star rating. I can barely bring myself to score it with 3 stars

The people at the Reception desk were fantastic and very helpful and knowledgeable; getting taxis, giving directions, smiling. The housekeeping staff was great as were the servers in the dining room. It's a bed & breakfast that also serves lunch and dinner, plus has a bar for late night snacks. Breakfast is included in the rate; you pay for lunches and dinners. We ate lots of meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) there; breakfast is kinda typical Scottish (includes tomatoes & beans along with eggs, sausage, bacon plus cereals, yogurt & fruit). Lunch was sandwiches and a few other things. Dinners could be fish/chips or steak or chicken stuffed with haggis, even duck. Internet service only in lobby or bar area, but they also provided a computer by reception. Taxi to Edinburgh City Center was about 10 pounds or so (the streets were torn up; with that & traffic it could vary slightly, but not by too much. We would definitely stay there again! I recently stayed overnight in the Ellersly House Hotel and would definitely recommend it to anyone…read morelooking for a nice, friendly, clean hotel with exquisite food. I paid £69.99 as part of an offer. This was for an overnight stay for 2 people, a 3 course evening meal, a bottle of prosecco and box of chocolates in the room on arrival and breakfast the following morning. Therefore, I couldn't tell you the individual price this would normally have been; however the hotel did not scrimp on anything being as it was part of a deal. The room was lovely and clean. Not the largest of room, but alright for an overnight. The staff were very accommodating and informed us when the best time would be to eat (as there was a large group booking in). The dinner was very tasty and beautifully presented. we had the smoked salmon, and pate for starters. Main courses were steak, and I had the chicken stuffed with haggis on a bed of mustard mash. The desserts were gorgeous. Cheesecake with an array of berries around it, and the other dessert was a toffee bomb (ice cream with toffee sauce). Breakfast was a buffet between 8am and 10am fry ups, cereal and chocolate croissants etc. The hotel had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The only point worth noting you are situated along the north bypass entry into Edinburgh at a location where there isn't much within walking distance; however the nearest bus stop is all but five minutes away. Nice location if you just fancy a quiet stroll. There is private parking in the grounds of the hotel too which is handy. Thanks to all the staff for making this a very pleasant stay.

And considering that our stay was at start of Dec and the hotel was fully booked we got an excellent deal. The main disappointment was that the room was very dark in fact it was uncomfortable and made it difficult to get ready in the morinings. The restaurant for breakfast was full and people were being seated in an over flow function room and service was slow. service was also slow in the bar however this was a very nice setting for an evening drink. The hotel has an indoor pool which was a nice touch and a gym although it was very dated and needs some serious ungrading. Although i was pleased with my stay there is so much choice in Edinburgh that next time i may choose some where else.
