Kansas is covered with farms. Why has it been so difficult to get local meat other than the one or…read moretwo mega brands offered in Dillons and everywhere else? Douglas Avenue Chop Shop addresses this need, providing a good old fashion butcher shop veneer with the curated selection of produce that you would expect as the millennial you probably are, because who else would bother searching for artisanal butcher shops on a website. The meat is all top-notch, though you're going to pay what is perhaps the highest prices in town for the privilege. If they haven't sold out of the cut you want, that is. The deli cases with the small selection of cured meats and cheeses is exemplary, offering many items that you're not going to find anywhere else. No longer will you have to substitute pancetta for gunaciale in your Carbonara recipe. During the week they make sandwiches using their meats and Crust & Crumb bread. They sell them in the shop and down the street at Reverie, but those are even harder to come by. The sausages are iffy. It's nice to see them making their own product, but the Dale's Pale Ale sausage had too much beer, affecting the texture of the meat. The duck sausage burst apart when I tried to cook it. Maybe it was just me. I did have a sage sausage at Fork and Fennel that was enjoyable, so your mileage may vary. The best part about DACC is that it's owned by Schane Gross, who also owns the excellent Anchor next door and Fork and Fennel down the street. As such, both of these restaurants have their own healthy supply of the products on sale at Douglas Avenue Chop Shop, and you can find them all over their respective menus. Judging by its immediate popularity, it's safe to say Wichita has been looking for a purveyor of fine meats for quite some time. In almost every aspect, it was executed successfully. It'll cost you, but Douglas Avenue Chop Shop is the best the city has to offer.

LONG ASS POST!!! But beware before ever using Ellinwood…read morePacking Plant. I have never heard a bad thing about them and was actually super excited to get our first 1/4 of a cow, my mom and step dad have used them and they produce a GREAT product, but my excitement soon turned to disappointment when I was greeted with their AWFUL customer service. Never in my life have I been spoken to like that. I'm not bashing the quality of their meats, but the quality of your product does not matter when you treat people like this! Ellinwood packing plant: your meat is ready to be picked up. (This lady is super sweet and awesome and i returned that same kindness!) Me: okay, great we will be there before the weekend to pick it up, it will likely be my boyfriend picking it up. Randy goes to pick up the meat...for Randi Sellens (person I got the cow from wasn't aware of me changing my name back to Steinle) EPP: No, we don't have anything for Randi Sellens. ..Randy then calls me so at this point I'm on the phone and hear the conversation.. Randy: what name is the meat under? Me: mine Randy: they say they don't have it under steinle or sellens. Me: try Chad or Trent EPP: yep, Trent, it's right here. (This is whose cow it was, which randy told them.) We get the meat home, NOT OURS! ‍ 8AM next morning- I call EPP. The lady who answers is less than friendly. Me: hi, this is randi sellens, I got someone else's meat and you have mine. I need this taken care of. EPP: No, you got the meat for the name given, we didn't give you the wrong meat. Me: well, you did because the name given was the fourth name we gave you AFTER YOU SAID THAT YOU DIDNT HAVE MEAT FOR THE CORRECT NAME, RANDI SELLENS. ‍ EPP: well your husband couldn't tell us whose meat he was to pick up. He stood their like a deer in headlights and when we asked him if the order was for randi sellens he told us no. He never said your name. Only Trent. Me: actually I was the one he called and I heard him tell you my name. Have your manager call me. Are you really going with the story that my "husband" doesn't know my fucking name?? Really? She then hangs up on me!!!! I call back and demand to speak with mgr. she screams "why are you doing this to me" and i say I'm not doing anything to you, if you're embarrassed for your short coming I'm sorry. (Long story short, but more arguments about the same thing) ..manager calls.. EPP M: well randi I just don't know how to handle this. Me: wow, okay, well here is what we will do I need the beef so I will come and get mine, but I'm not paying a processing fee again and should be getting a discount for what I've already paid you as this is 4 hours of driving for me. EPP M: there's just nothing we can do for that. Me: we will never use you guys again, I've fixed your problems and played manager for you because you "just don't know what to do". Him: that's okay, business is good. Then I'm on my way and call to confirm that I will be able to pick up my meat bc Trent can't meet to swap it.... EPP: well we can't take that meat back. Me: okay I will freeze it for him but I want to confirm I can come get mine. EPP: yes. Me: okay thank you EPP: be here by 1 - **click** (hung up on me) Mind you, they never once called this man to let him know what's going on, I had to call his brother get his number and do that!!! I get there... EPP: hi how can I help you? Me: I'm here to pick up Randi sellens meat. EPP: waits for customer in store to leave* -I can't believe this, your husband did not say your name. I don't know how this could happen. We asked him your name and he wouldn't give us a name and just stood there. Me: let's not fucking go there again, I was on the phone, you won't win by lying!! Now moving on go get my meat. EPP: well he wouldn't give us your name and we asked him and he said no. This is not our fault. Me: moving past this go get my fucking meat you heifer!!! I did get shitty and I wouldn't change a thing I said. This was the worst customer service I've ever had!
