I was going through a situation where I needed a mental break away from everything and everyone. I drove out from Las Vegas and spent a few hours in different places. Sand dunes, flat shrub desert, etc. I came to Sandy Valley around when the Sun was starting to set. I parked on a patch of road that overlooked the valley. Not asound of a bird, generator, or traffic could be heard. The Sun covered the vallley in gold and the distance wind made it sound so peaceful. The contours of the mountains' shadows really shows their true beauty. It was a very peaceful moment with no worry in to be found. I drank my water and looked at something I only thought I would see in the movies.
I could see the town from where I was at on the mountain road and drove a couple more miles before reaching this here gas station. Already closed, but the pumps still worked. Took card. I had enough gas to make it back to Vegas safe and sound, but not enough to just park off to the side and let the engine run. The pump took my card and I got a full tank of gas. I drove out to the desert part of this town about MAYBE a mile out and I watched the stars. While I sat there drinking my wine and enjoying a little bit of the Devil's Cabbage, I made a wish to a shooting star. I can't remember what the wish was or if it ever came true, but I would like to think so. I know it may be just a gas station to some folks, but those pumps help make something special happen. Ive only been there once, but I want to come back one day. Hopefully one day soon. Here is the Valley of Gold known as Sandy Valley. read more
