Tucked somewhat incongruously behind Shake Shack on the Post Road is Pinnacle Health and Fitness…read more It's an oasis of exercise and wellness right next to the local outpost of Danny Meyer's chain known for burgers, fries, and shakes. And while Shake Shack may the perfect fix for an occasional craving, Pinnacle is an excellent place to regularly treat your body well. Pinnacle is a private gym and fitness studio largely devoted to one-on-one training. Their staff of fitness professionals specialize in fitness training, pilates, and yoga. They are all experts in tailoring your personal training to your needs. If you want to get back into shape or prepare for an endurance event, they can work closely with you to meet your goals. Over the years that I have gone there, I have seen brides (and bride's mothers!) work to get in shape for their big day. I have also seen clients working to come back from an injury or illness make outstanding progress with help from the Pinnacle team. There are also many students athletes who have further refined their skills with training at Pinnacle. The best thing is that your training is focused on you and your needs. If you are intimidated by crowded big-box gyms, Pinnacle is the perfect spot to get comfortable with exercise and work towards your fitness goals. Pinnacle's clients range from teenagers to hearty nonagenarians and everyone in between. Regardless of age or fitness level, all clients are made to feel comfortable there. If you are unsure of how to get started, stop by and the friendly front desk staff can give you a tour of the facilities and discuss your needs. If you are focused on exercise, you may train with one of the personal trainers. If balance and flexibility are your goals, pilates and yoga are options for you. There are actually many clients who work with staff members in both areas. The facilities are the icing on the cake at Pinnacle. The main fitness room and the pilates/yoga studios are very well maintained and are never crowded. Also, the locker rooms are more like what you'd see at a spa with towels and grooming supplies. Perks include a small steam room for the guys and upscale products for the ladies. If you train at Pinnacle regularly, you can also work out there on your own without any monthly fees. Make 1849 Post Road East your destination for health and fitness. With some hard work and support from the folks at Pinnacle, you'll be looking and feeling better in no time. And then you can treat yourself once in a while to the food in the front the building. You may be so happy with your progress that you just might opt for healthier fare, but for the record, the vegetarian burger's pretty tasty! Full disclosure: I did work at Pinnacle for two months two years ago. I have, however, worked out with my Pinnacle trainer for ten years. I believe that both of my experiences have given me the perspective to speak to the high level of service and results seen at Pinnacle Health and Fitness.

Love, love, love Bar Method Fairfield. Prior to taking classes here, my only other experience was…read morewith the Physique 57 videos. They're great, but I was really concerned about my technique and doing the exercises correctly. I was thrilled to hear that BM had opened in Fairfield. The studio is bright, lovely, and clean. Staff are positive and always remember clients' names. (I'm terrible with names, so this is really impressive.) All of the instructors are excellent too! They're very knowledgeable and focused on their students having correct technique. If you're thinking about trying a barre workout, definitely check out Bar Method. It is VERY challenging and you'll feel AMAZING afterwards. The only drawback (for me) is that the studio is about 30 minutes away from where I live. However, the workout is so awesome that it's worth the drive.

First, the disclaimer. This is not a review of the studio as it is not open yet. However, Bar…read moreMethod Fairfield offered preview/community classes this summer and I took about 8 of them. I've been active my whole life, although less so for the last 4 years. Bar Method is an entirely different approach to exercise than anything I've done before. The focus on Bar Method is on small (tiny, even) isometric movements. By the way, "isometric" means "same length" and an isometric movement is one that engages your muscle without contracting it. For more information, the Bar Method founders blog is a great source: http://blog.barmethod.com. It was developed by a dancer and with the help of a physical therapist. I actually recognize a lot of the movements from when I did physical therapy for my back almost 15 years ago. Bar Method is completely different than any other workout I have ever done. It took me about 3 classes to adjust to the new positions and the flow of class, and for the first two classes I questioned whether I was getting a good workout. However, the day after class as soon as I got out of bed I could very clearly tell that I had. I wasn't really sore the way I am after lifting weights or running or anything else. Instead, I was a little bit achey everywhere we had worked. I could FEEL that my muscles had been worked. Over the last 5 weeks, I've noticed some changes that I really attribute to Bar Method. My arms are more defined, the shape of my legs is changing. I'm also sleeping better than I have in a long time. If you, like me, walk out of your first and second classes thinking "Eh, I'm not sure" I'd really encourage you to go back a few more times just to make sure you're not missing out on something that you really will click with if you give it more time. Through classes this summer, I had the chance to meet some of the Bar Method teachers. Bridget is the owner and has been teaching for a while. She clearly knows what she's doing in class, and has authority in her voice that makes you not want to quit even when whatever she has you doing is really tough. Stephanie is one of the other teachers and she is very encouraging. There's at least one more teacher who is still in training

The owner, Edel, has made an oasis of serenity in her studio. From the beautiful wallpaper to the lighting, she has created a peaceful environment. The classes are all amazing. Edel chooses her instructors carefully. The instructors are always quick to give modifications and all allow you to have your own yoga journey. I never feel less than if I am not able to do a pose. I am simply reminded, by the instructors, to breath and to take the pose that works best for my body. At the end of every class, I walk away feeling lighter and calmer. The barre classes are also amazing. The instructors make the classes fun and the are all super motivating. All of the playlists will have you singing along and forget you are working your muscles. Once again, for a girl like me, they make sure to give modifications. The warmth and love you will feel in this studio, will make you feel like you are on a Caribbean Island on a blue sky, sunny day.
