I would budget at least 2 hours here or as many as 3 if your kids are going to interact with the butterflies and the turtles and do the scavenger hunt as mine did. The indoor exhibit is small but charming and there are a few native species around. The downstairs education center also does a scavenger hunt every month which is really cool. They've done an amazing job of "gamifying" nature/science learning with their points based rewards system and natural objects exchange. We learned a lot about butterflies and caterpillars on our quest. The points thing goes a long way to motivating little ones that may be more skeptical about "learning" experiences and museums. But if you have kids who are more active and will walk, the variety of local trails contained within the nature center is quite nice. I would recommend coming here for adults without kids too for this reason. I heard there were little fairy houses somewhere too here but. I didn't see them. We saw the beaver, a variety of different birds including hawks and owls, and tons of other local animals. It was cool to see how intentional the design was of the outdoor sections and the map they give you at the gift shop/ticket counter is helpful. I also like how they have lots of play areas built in outside for kids to explore in a less structured way. They also have some nice picnic spots. Staff were friendly and helpful. "Feeding" (with the little sugar sticks) the butterflies was fantastic. Even on a hot summer day, I'm super glad we came and if it wasn't so far from where I lived I would attend more regularly/become a member.

At no point did I agree to an ongoing subscription. Despite this, my card was later placed on auto-billing without my consent, and I was charged nearly $1,000 after the agreed period ended. I have made multiple attempts to resolve this directly via email, and have received no response, which is extremely concerning from a business that was previously very responsive during enrollment. While their program seemed positive initially, the billing practices and lack of communication have been unacceptable. Families should be very cautious and ensure they fully understand (and document) any cancellation terms in writing. I am still seeking a resolution and refund for the unauthorized charges.

Is that even legal? I'm sure antidepressants for some can be life changing and there is a place for them. however, I was very upset how medications were discussed with my daughter without her and I discussing them 1st. I expressed my concern that she needed to talk to me 1st before recommending antidepressants. after my talk and a few more sessions, she basically told me that she couldn't help my daughter and needed to end the sessions. My daughter had formed an attachment to her and felt very abandoned by her. Let's just say, that this was the worst experience with this therapist. I'm so fed up with our system that pushes our kids towards pharmaceutical medications. Happy to say that after her, we saw a more holistic therapist and my daughter is thriving now. Needless to say that I felt like I had to post this review to warn other parents that do your due diligence on picking your child's therapist, interview them extensively and make sure you have shared values.

I think this place has been around since forever, right behind the Mountain View Library. They offer painting, sketching, clay, theatre, and music classes; I tend to find that it's more theatrics than actual drawing classes offered. I've stayed away from acting and music, but they have productions and dinner&shows every season for the public to go to, at $5-$15 per show. The classes are great- but it really depends on your class, really. I've only taken painting, portraiture, and clay, and clay was the worst of them all. Enjoyable? Yes. Would I do it again? No. I don't even remember the instructor's name. My only quip is that for each class, the fees never seem to end. Registration (late or early), actual class fees, baking fees, and oh, the -supplies-! The supplies list never ends, I swear. For pencil portraiture, I thought you bring a pencil and eraser, and a pad. False, it's like 20 different types of pencils, graphite, special erasers left and right, specially bound pads, tissue paper, paper stubs, special ink pens and tips, and oh my god, these things cost a fortune! I just want to draw! Ahem, anyway, the painting guy was ok, but the star of the show is Kip Rogers- after all these years (it's been like 10), I still remember how well he taught his classes and I want to go back, even if this place is about a solid 45 minute drive from where I live now. His class is 95 for first timers and 70 for returners. At that price, it's a freaking steal! (Well, at least for that class....) The Art Place is a special place to me- back when I still drew all over the place, I had been able to be part of some of the shows there, and I appreciated that. You could always walk in and see art from the locals. After all these years, the many of the artists teaching there are still there. The pace was perfect and I never felt as though we were moving too fast. There were only 4 people in my Sunday afternoon class which allowed plenty of opportunities for him to walk around and help us individually. We also had opportunities to take little snack/bathroom breaks. The building is shared with the library and since that's closed on Sundays, there was usually ample parking. Sometimes there would be a children's performance in the theater near our studio but it was never really disruptive. Although sometimes, there would be less parking spots near the studio entrance on those days. I genuinely enjoyed taking this class at Spruill! I hope to take more classes here in the future and I even told my friends about it. The classes are reasonably priced for the quality of instruction that they offer, and there may be a few need-based scholarships available on their website. I believe there is a donation-based supply closet available to students who are currently enrolled in art classes, but the closet itself is only open during the week. Overall, I think Spruill is a great place hone any craft and I would love to take more classes in the future.
