I was pleasantly surprised by how big the store was, yet how small it felt like an old school surf shop like the one I used to hang out at back in Venice and Santa Monica. Obviously the times have changed and the equipment has become better, and the prices have gore accordingly. One of the best things about the Catalyst shop besides the online customer support team, was how friendly and knowledge the staff was. They answered any questions I had about the new was of measuring surfboards... by Liters. I'm and American, and have no idea what the metric system is! Al kidding aside they explain it to me in a little more detail, and that was enough for me. I got two scoops, Rocky Road and pecan, both were delicious. They got really cool wooden Picnic tables too. On hot days especially, this place will be extremely popular. The owner is extremely cool. He mentioned that he's bringing back the Doheny Paddle Fest this summer too. He has a passion for thrifty ice cream, paddle boards, the community, Dana point, he's been in business for decades, I remember coming here as a teen. Additionally, The employees were all chill. At the moment, this is the only place that I know of that serves thrifty ice cream here in Orange County. So I was willing to pay a lot. - but didn't have to because all the prices were great. I got a 3/2 fullsuit for like 50 bucks. I didn't even need another one at the time, but how you gonna say no to that? I also love buying booties here, if you come at a time when they have your size the deals are phenomenal, I usually pay $60+ for booties full price but they'll have them here for 15 bucks sometimes but they go fast. The staff here is also super helpful, if you're new to wetsuits and need help with wetsuit sizing or anywhere else they're always happy to help. The fitting rooms are large and spacious as well, which if you've ever tried on a wetsuit before you know that you want a lot of space to move around. Besides wetsuits and surf gear they have both men and women's apparel along with accessories such as watches, hats, bags, etc. The store is well maintained and well kept, and parking is easy right behind the store. The only downside is that their stock is always constantly changing, so you never really know if they'll have your size of what you want. I've found great deals on apparel and misc accessories, but other times I'll come by and there's no sales and the prices aren't too different from what you'd find at a regular non outlet store or they won't have my size in anything I want. If you're passing through the area, it's definitely worth it to stop by to see what they have. If they don't, come back another time because they'll probably have new inventory.
