The lodge itself is unbelievable - it is luxurious yet homey at the same time, and makes for a wonderful mountain getaway for you and your guests. Vicky, the lodge manager, was so helpful with everything from accommodating for off-hours check-ins, any and all room needs, and of course, cooking delicious handmade breakfast every morning! Kathy, the event coordinator, was just awesome to work with. She truly made the wedding planning process easier and less stressful. She was communicative, detail oriented, and always willing to hop on a call or set up a meeting for wedding planning details. Her expertise in this field really came to light throughout our wedding planning process, and it was very much appreciated. The Twin Owls Steakhouse staff was professional and helpful, and the food is amazing! If you need something from your server, pack a snack because you won't be seeing them anytime soon. The only reason this got 2 stars instead of 1 is because that bison dip was excellent. Everything else was a letdown. The Caesar salad was so overdressed it was basically soup. We ordered the apple pie expecting it to come out warm in a skillet, but instead it arrived ice cold. Not warm-ish. Not room temp. Straight out of the fridge, skillet and all. They didn't even bother to microwave it. The place was practically empty in the middle of summer, which tells you everything you need to know. Should've trusted the other Yelpers.

If you're looking for a place that captures the true charm, history, and beauty of Estes Park, this…read morelodge is it. Originally opened on July 4, 1914, this historic lodge sits high on a hill overlooking Estes Park, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and even a clear view of the Stanley Hotel. With only 27 rooms, it offers a peaceful, intimate atmosphere that feels worlds away from the crowded hotels in town. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Kayleigh, the Operations Manager. She was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable about both the lodge and Estes Park, and immediately made us feel at home. Walking into the lodge feels like stepping back in time in the best possible way. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a true log cabin feel. Many of the decorations and furnishings are original, including some of the glassware, which adds to the incredible history of the property. The first floor features three original fireplaces, plenty of comfortable seating, complimentary coffee and water, board games, books, movie rentals, and DVD players in every room. The lodge has also built a beautiful bar area that should be opening soon once their liquor license is finalized, which will be another great addition. During our first night, we stayed in Room 305, a one-bedroom suite with a separate bedroom and incredible mountain views. The bed, pillows, and bedding were honestly some of the most comfortable I've ever slept on outside of my own home. I slept amazingly well. The room included a kitchenette with a two-burner cooktop, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker with Folgers coffee, dishes, paper towels, dish soap, sponge, and even cute little salt and pepper shakers. The bathroom was stocked with quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The view from Room 305 was breathtaking. As the sun set behind the Rocky Mountains, it looked as if the mountains were glowing with fire. It was one of the most beautiful views I've experienced in Estes Park. For our second night, we moved to Room 103, a spacious two-bedroom suite. This room was absolutely huge and perfect for families or groups. It featured two separate bedrooms, a larger kitchen area with a mid-sized refrigerator, multiple bathrooms, a comfortable living room, and a full balcony with tables and chairs overlooking Estes Park. Like every room, it included a box fan, though we actually found ourselves getting chilly enough to close the windows at night. The outdoor amenities are just as impressive. The pool is large, clean, and surrounded by plenty of tables, chairs, and loungers. The hot tub is the perfect temperature and includes bubbling jets. There's a hammock for relaxing, Adirondack chairs overlooking the scenery, cornhole for some friendly competition, and propane grills available for guests to use. The property also hosts weddings, and honestly, I can't imagine a more beautiful setting for one. What I love most about this lodge is that it feels authentic. It's quiet, secluded, and never crowded. The limited number of rooms creates a peaceful atmosphere that's becoming harder and harder to find in Estes Park. I've stayed at five different hotels and lodges in Estes Park over the years, and this is hands down my favorite. The combination of history, comfort, amenities, incredible views, friendly staff, and fair pricing makes it stand out above the rest. With plans for a future restaurant and continued improvements, it's only going to get better. When I return to Estes Park--and I definitely will--this is where I'll stay. If you're considering lodging options in town, don't overlook this hidden gem. In my opinion, you're missing out if you choose somewhere else.

Cozy, affordable Bed & Breakfast in a great location…read more Innkeepers Hans & Miriam run a lovely B & B just outside of the downtown in Estes Park. My wife and I stayed here when we vacationed in Colorado in June. We loved Colorado so much we moved there 5 months later! We stayed in an upstairs bedroom that was quaint and homey. The bed was comfortable enough and the room & bathroom were clean & ship-shape. Our hosts serve a group breakfast in the morning, and it was interesting to chat with the other guests. For the mornings that we planned to leave for Rocky Mountain National Park early, Miriam prepared a fortifying boxed breakfast ahead of time. The location was great as a jumping-off point for the Park, or for a stroll around downtown Estes. The only downside, and I don't really blame the owners (it is what it is), was that there was no air-conditioning. Normally at this elevation it wouldn't have been an issue, but it was an unseasonably warm week when we were there, getting up into the mid-90's during the day, and it took a long while to cool down. Hans & Miriam supplied us with a fan, which helped some. In hindsight, it kind of added to the charm, but at the time it was a bit uncomfortable. All in all, I would highly recommend The Quilt House for a cozy mountain getaway.

It is cozy, friendly, welcoming, and definitely not trendy. If you want to be transported back to an imagined childhood with kind grandparents, this is the place for you. The Quilt House owners are Hans and Miriam Graetzer, who bought this home about 15 years ago and remodeled to be their retirement business. The lodging consists of three bedrooms, each with its own bath, on the second floor, along with a sitting room for guests. There is a cabin to the side as well. I only saw our room, which had two twin beds and a bath, and the sitting room, which you could reasonably call a Parlor, if you were old enough. The bathroom was small, but everything was spotless, and there was plenty of hot water. The Quilt House has nonsmoking, no alcohol, policies. If you want to come back to your room and have a glass of wine before bed, this is not the place for you. We had plenty of wine or beer with our dinners in town, so we didn't feel the need to get blotto before retiring for the night. The Graetzers provide a hearty, filling group breakfast at 8:00am. Everyone eats together. The food is delicious and simple, and all made by Miriam. She makes delicious nut breads and quiche. When we checked in, Hans asked if we had any dietary restrictions. We explained that we were vegetarians, and they were able to accommodate our dietary needs. Hans also asked if we preferred coffee or tea in the morning, and we were always served what we wanted. The one thing that might bother some folks is the religious practices, though some of you might appreciate it. The Graetzers are apparently devout Christians. Again, we felt like we were in Granddad's house, so we went along. Hans offered a blessing at breakfast on the first day, which, according to other guests who were regulars at the Quilt House, he typically does. The next day, he asked us to sing "God Bless America", and we did. Can't say I've ever done that before at breakfast. On our last morning, we were leaving at 6am, so Miriam packed us two breakfasts to go, which she left in the guest refrigerator in the parlor. There was enough food to feed six people. That was very sweet, and very much appreciated. Hans and Miriam have lived in Estes Park for almost 20 years. They are knowledgeable about the area and its attractions, and are very willing to answer any questions guests might have. There are books everywhere, and magazines, which guests are welcome to read. There are no televisions, no DVD players, no nothing of that sort. It's a quiet place. Again, if you need to watch ESPN or rent DVDs, this is not the place for you. The Quilt House is located on a side street that is only a five-minute walk from the Donut Haus, a good Italian restaurant, a local brewery, and a Chinese restaurant. Walk another 5 minutes, and you're in the heart of downtown Estes Park, with all sorts of restaurants and crappy shops that will appeal to any tourist. We enjoyed our stay at The Quilt House because we wanted simple, inexpensive, comfortable and convenient lodging. But we have simple needs. We got along just fine without TV, radio, Internet (no Wi-Fi here), and drinking alcohol before bedtime. We enjoyed talking with other guests at the breakfast table, and hanging out in the parlor, watching weather systems roll in from Rocky Mountain National Park. But if you need all the modern conveniences, and lots of special services and entertainment provided at your lodging, this may not be the place for you. For me and the sibling, it was just fine. We would stay again.
