I recently visited this floral shop I was impressed first with the customer service. Tiffany gave me the best customer service ever. She helped me pick out the perfect arrangement for my friend's birthday. She did not pressure me to spend more money than I wanted. I explained to her exactly what I wanted and she did just that. I have received many flowers in all my years and enjoy flower gardening. I received a grocery store looking arrangement from a "reputable " florist. Actually grocery store arrangements look healthier. I know my loved one spent over $100 and the flowers started wilting the next day. I feel bad he was ripped off by Strange's. This is not the first time I received a old flower arrangement. Shame on Stranges for taking a persons hard earned money and delivering a less than expected product. Stop purchasing from them and maybe they will clean up their act. read more

The only strange thing about Strange's is the fact that it doesn't have better reviews. The customer service and plant selection at the Mechanicsville location is wonderful! When my girlfriend and I moved recently, one of our goals (in true broke hipster fashion) was to fill up the new house with as many plants as possible. We had made a couple trips to Lowe's, but were disappointed in how much they were charging for such a small selection of plants, many of which appeared to be already dying. We had no idea that Strange's was only a few minutes away from our new house until I searched Yelp for nearby nurseries, and we decided to check it out despite the mediocre reviews. The employee at the front counter greeted us and directed us to the houseplants, which were all stored in the massive greenhouse next door. They were largely sorted by species, but there were also several smaller sections for everything you could possibly need or want: low-maintenance plants, pet-safe plants, air-purifying plants, etc. Many of the tables also had signs that briefly explained how much water, sun, and care a given plant would need to thrive. Thanks to these useful bullet points and the straightforward layout of the store, it only took us about twenty minutes to pick out our perfect plants. When we went to check out, we spoke with another employee to make sure that everything we were about to buy would survive under the care of two first-time plant moms, and thankfully she assured us that all of our new babies would be fine. We ended up spending $150 on about a dozen plants and succulents, which would've only gotten us two and a half palm trees at Lowe's. All of the plants we got are thriving, and Strange's helpful signs and employees played a huge part in that. We'll definitely be returning here when we decide to expand our indoor jungle. Obviously, I can't speak to the delivery side of Strange's, but if you're looking for quality houseplants in RVA, this place is a one-stop-shop. read more

It seems that their delivery person did not exercise due diligence in delivering my order or communicating with me. Not too bad of a place! I actually traveled here today to check it out because there aren't many good plant nurseries that carry houseplants around where I live & I'd say they have a nice selection of house plants and quite a few outdoor plants too! They even had a couple houseplants I had never heard or seen before, so summer might be the best time to visit! They didn't carry that big of a terra-cotta pot selection & their soil section kinda sucked, though they did have a nice selection of organic fertilizers and mix-ins. Their prices varied, because some were really good deals, and others weren't. I'd say overall their pricing was pretty good though.The workers seemed nice and didn't hover, which I prefer. A nice little place to go, but if you're debating on traveling here, I'd think about it a bit! read more

Roses delivered on Monday by close friend and they were fully opened first day. They looked "old". I called and ultimately the owner said that was normal for fuscia roses which I called other florists and they disputed that. Roses of all colors are normally delivered in tight buds that allow the recipient to enjoy the blooming. The owner said if they didnt look good after two days to call back. The photo shows late in day of day two. I did call back, owner not there, was told he would call back to discuss, and now it's been couple days later and no return call(no voice mail message). . Very disappointed and will not choose Strange's Mechanicsville for our business. These flowers were meant to cheer us after mom's passing. We took the droopy roses 2nd day to the church service and the friends who sent them to us had "Strange" look on their face when we pointed their gift out with our sincere thank you. We needed some colorful flowers for reception area and the pretty pink provided that. What a shame Strange's didn't truly back their "Satisfaction" promise on the delivery card. read more

I always used to love coming to this location. I could bring my dog. They had great selection and great advice in the outdoor section. This time everything has changed. The outdoor section is closed and has been allowed to go over with weeds and all the plants are sold inside. The selection was no better than I could've gotten at Home Depot, which is where I'll be going from here. They had only the most basic kinds of tomatoes and herbs. Nothing interesting at all, and many available only in four packs which aren't very useful to me. Sales help seem to have shank as well, and the very nice person that I asked for advice didn't really know which plans were perennials that could grow in the shade. I don't know if this change your post all of their locations but it looks like the Mechanicsville location is going downhill fast. read more

I know it's a busy time for florists right now but I had to remind the young lady that I had ordered a balloon with my flowers. The one she brought out appeared to either be incompletely filled or days old (I'll be replacing it; didn't notice until I had left the store). My two dozen roses & vase were placed in a cardboard box secured with two staples which promptly broke almost the moment I made it out of the parking lot. I didn't expect to have to remind the employee about what I ordered (it was only two things) nor did I expect to hold a wet vase in my lap as I drove home. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the employees were all very welcoming and friendly. All things considered I'll probably be ordering my flowers elsewhere next year. read more

Update on my prior review. I did receive an email and call from one of the owners who was very concerned about my experience. He went out of his way to fix the problem. Mistakes happen in any business. It's how the business responds and fixes the mistake that separate the good ones from the bad. Great customer experience so far! I'm in Cali so I ordered a delivery arrangement for my great Aunt who's in the hospital. Had some hiccups (ugh she moved locations before delivery and Strange's had my phone number wrong) but life happens and I've been assured they are being redelivered tomorrow! I've never been disappointed with their flowers but I've always done the shopping in person. Looking forward to the phone call from my Aunt tomorrow! I am so sorry I did not take a picture of the wrist corsages that my son purchased for me and his mother-in-law for his wedding. When he brought them the white roses had turned brown around the top - as I was walking down the aisle one rose fell off - before the end of the wedding and pictures could be taken, my corsage had fallen apart - they were HOT GLUED!!!!! - His mother-in-law who does not live in the Richmond area was horrified - the whole corsage fell off the wrist band - Not only was this embarrassing for my son and my family who had suggested Stranges and we could not even have our pictures taken with the corsages - it was embarrassing for Stranges to have someone from out of the area to see what shoddy work had been done on these wrist corsages! I was able to take mine back that Saturday before they closed and received a refund - but that did not make up for the disappointment for my son or to the mothers to whom they were purchased for. read more

I recently placed a web order through Strange's to have flowers delivered to my aunt at a nursing home in Chesterfield. Their delivery options are very convenient, serving the whole Richmond area. Delivery costs $10, and it even included the option of sending me a text message and e-mail to confirm delivery. The arrangements are very nice, and they have some that are very moderately priced. I'm on a budget, so I ended up purchasing a beautiful and exotic-looking bouquet that only cost $25 total, including the delivery. Perusing a few of the national-scale online flower shops, it looked like I would definitely pay more and get less - and I also got to support a local business at the same time, so going through Strange's was really a no-brainer. The only thing that I found to be lacking throughout the whole process is the address look-up for local funeral homes, hospitals, and nursing homes. I thought this was going to be very convenient for me to just look up the address on the Strange's website, but unfortunately that list is misleading and doesn't actually include any nursing homes as of right now. read more

Ordered flowers for Valentine's day and the wrong arrangement was delivered. Called to advise and was told that the correct arrangement would be redelivered. When I asked if it would be delivered on Valentine's Day the rep I spoke with said "I don't know we're really busy today". The flowers were never delivered and when I called the next day found out that the request for redelivery was never even made. The second person I spoke w/ wanted to "investigate" and get back to me. I had to call again to request a refund which I was told would be processed. It's been a week and no refund. Called today and was told the refund was not "pushed through". I planned to do something special for my lady on our anniversary. I went online and saw this company came highly recommended. Then I went to the website to find the best floral arrangements for my lady. There is a section on the page to guarantee delivery within a specific time period. I paid extra money to ensure the flowers would be delivered to my lady's job before she got off work. Which was 9am until 2pm. I gave my email and phone number as requested to notify me once floral arrangements were delivered. At 3:30pm still no confirmed delivery. Finally, I called the florist. They couldn't tell me were the arrangements were. At this point. I was extremely upset. The floral associate told me they could only reimburse the guaranteed delivery fee. I asked to speak with a manger. The manager told me she could cancel my order but It would be 7-10 business days before I could get a full refund. The worst thing about this experience is not only did this company ruin my anniversary plans. They didn't once try to make it right. I winded up having to go to another florist and spend more money. My husband has ordered flowers for me from Strange's on three separate occassions over the last five years from Strange's, the last time being February 2012. Since my office is closest to Mechanicsville, this is where I know two of the bouquets came from. The first time I received flowers from them, I was disappointed in the quality of the flowers (limp, brown edges and spots). Let it go, because my husband sent them. The second time, same story... low quality roses, not arranged well. I called Stranges and they brought me another bouquet. Still not great, but.... The third and last time I received flowers from here (Valentine's Day 2012) the roses were the same as the last two times!!!! I took the flowers to the store and asked them to put the money back on my husband's card. They did it but acted like the could not have cared less. I do not know how they are such a popular florist in Richmond because their service and product leaves A LOT to be desired. read more

I have always ordered from Stranges and have been pleased with the service and quality of the arrangements. Not this time. This was my first experience with the Mechanicsville location and will definitely be the last. My friend had a baby January 1st. The stranges 5 mins from me was closed so my call got routed to Mechanicsville. I asked if they could deliver, they said their delivery services to hospitals were unavailable that day. I called back I am few minutes to place an order and I asked if they had jot pink roses and lilies for a tall arrangement with mylar balloon. I was told yes, and that it would be ready by 11:15 (I called at 10:50). I told them I lived in Midlothian and may be a bit later than 11:15 bc I was driving straight there but it's about a 20 min drive. It was then I was told were closing at 11:15. So I was a bit shocked, and flustered. I asked if they could wait for me to get there is was driving while this conversation was taking place. She said we can wait til 11:15. Ok. Not to mention my arrangement was not what I wanted and the roses looked bruised. If I didn't need flowers for my friend I wouldn't have bought them. But I was desperate. I told the manager and he was dismissive also. They say shop small and local, but when you do they act like that? And what business opens for 2 hours and acts like they don't want to help their customers? If I could give negative stars I would. read more

I've normally had decent experiences with Strange's. Today's experience has pushed me in the opposite direction. It's my mother's birthday and I was happy that since I couldn't be with her today due to distance, a nice arrangement of flowers would arrive to remind her that she was important. At 2pm, I receive a phone call to inform me that the florist that would fill and deliver the order is closed until next week. I was asked if delivery next week would be ok (ridiculous), but I still remained calm. The manager, Mark, gave me all the normal responses that should work on customers who aren't in an industry that directly services others. There was no sense of urgency, no genuine sympathy, and no concern for future business from me. It was obvious that Mark just looked forward to getting to the end of the phone call. I previously gave all my floral business to Strange's. If this were to happen again, it would be my fault for not adjusting my expectations. Not a chance I'm willing to take. Thanks for the good times. Hope things get better for Mark and his team so that others don't fall victim to failure to make timely confirmations. read more
