I found pansies (my brother says that they're a misnomer - they should be called sturdies or toughies since they last through the winter, anyway...) in many colors, purple, white, blue, yellow & orange and some Dusty Miller for my front stoop. I also found a Crispy wave Japanese fern & a Christmas cactus for the house, and the helpful woman at the shop even found my rosemary (only a few left) ! How serendipitous! I saw shelves of succulents that tempted me, and some gorgeous poinsettias, which I will go back for shortly! So if you'd like to support a small, local business, plant yourself here!

I'm especially fond of the Cuban Oregano, Tuscan Blue Rosemary(that's for remembrance, quoting Ophelia in Shakespeare's Hamlet) and the Rue (you must wear your rue with a difference, Ophelia says!) Winter, spring, summer or fall, there's always something to see at Lavender Fields. In addition to the wide selection of plants, LFHF also has other amenities; local raw honey, tours, classes, a gift shop, teas, garden supplies and tools, planters, beautiful landscaping that backs up the the Chickahominy River, and don't forget their famous lavender lemonade and ice cream. The natural lighting that spills in is absolutely delicious. There are local goods from local creators around the shop along with dried and fresh flowers. When you enter you are warmly welcomed. I came with my mom and we had a wonderful time exploring the shop. We went straight to the back to check out the fresh flowers and ended up taking home a gorgeous bouquet. The flowers from River City Flower Exchange are locally and ethically grown in Virginia! I highly recommend stopping by this beautiful flower and gift shop.

It's the nicest shop on the corner of West Cary; parking can be a little tricky, but there are plenty of options nearby. I fell in love with the shop before I even stepped inside. The outside is inviting and beautifully decorated, and the inside is even more so. The decor is well thought out, from the open windows to the bold floral wallpaper and colors that complement the space perfectly. Paula has extensive knowledge when it comes to flowers, and it shows in how she guides you through creating your own arrangement. The workshop is great for any skill level and includes everything you need, from the vase to the flowers and every extra touch to make sure your bouquet is complete. She also provided catered food and beverages, so every detail was covered. Beyond the workshops, she also offers general floral services for anyone in need of arrangements.
