Took their tech just 10 minutes to tell us we were low on freon due to a bad coil and we were looking at $3500 to replace. Guy never used a leak detector he just knew the leak was in the coil. I wanted a 2nd opinion before spending that kind of money so I called J&R based on their 5 star Yelp rating and the things people were saying in their reviews. Joe showed up, immediately took the unit apart, and spent over an hour using a leak detector to try to locate the coolant leak. Couldn't find a leak. He ended up leaving the system pressurized with nitrogen over a weekend only to come back on Monday and find no pressure loss. No leak - no bad coil. The issue was the other guys (who've serviced our units for 2 yrs) had left the valve caps loose on the exterior unit. Joe's diligence and honesty saved us a lot of money and earned him a customer for life. Its really rare nowadays to find someone with this kind of ethics. Joe's a likeable guy, explains what he's doing and why, and isn't out there trying to run up the tab on the repair. You sometimes hear companies saying they'll treat you like family. Joe never said that and its not on their website or their marketing material but that's definitely how I felt I was treated - like family.

The People's Champ -- and he truly lives up to the name…read more I honestly don't know if I'll ever be able to put into words how grateful I am to Kevin and everyone at The People's Champ. The day my husband died by suicide, it felt like absolutely everything that could go wrong went wrong. On top of the unimaginable loss my son and I were dealing with, our AC went out. For us, especially because I have a son with disabilities, having working AC isn't a luxury--it's something we truly need. Kevin came out to look at our unit and did a temporary fix to get us through, but he knew we ultimately needed a new system. I explained my situation to him, including that I had just lost my husband. Instead of simply telling me what the repair would cost and walking away, Kevin told me about a state government grant that I might qualify for that could potentially help us get a new unit. I'm not the greatest with technology, and there was a lot of paperwork and information I had to submit. Kevin went above and beyond and offered to help me through the process. There was a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved, but in the end, I was approved. I will never forget that. Kevin didn't just see me as another customer. He saw a mother who was struggling, a family going through an incredibly difficult time, and a son who needed help. He even put my son and me in his prayers. That kindness meant more to me than I can ever explain. I still cry sometimes when I think about how much Kevin helped us during one of the worst times of our lives. He could have simply been an AC repairman, but he chose to be a human being who cared. That is something I will never forget. I also want to give a HUGE shoutout to Bruce, who installed our new unit. He was absolutely meticulous and did the most beautiful, professional job. He treated our home with care and took pride in his work from beginning to end. And honestly, everyone who works for Kevin is top-notch. It says a lot about a business when the owner surrounds himself with people who care just as much as he does. The sewage line had actually collapsed and the city has agreed to replace the pipe. They saved us a few thousand dollars by being honest and trustworthy. I let them take advantage of our family…read more TLDR: I believe they overcharged us. $409 for 5 seconds of diagnostics and 25 min of labor including 3 trips to the truck (one was to retrieve a replacement pin for one that had been dropped in to the wall), and a $60 part that they itemized as $340 on my bill. I called multiple times to speak with the field manager and was not able to connect with him. We had a leak in our shower that the technician with five seconds of looking at it determined he was 99% confident on what the issue was. He started repairs at 1:46 PM and finished at 2:11 PM with everything working. Our work starting window being (11-2pm) My issue comes with the fact that I think they overcharged us for the job that they did. After writing the check and thinking over the entire interaction, I began to feel very uneasy with how everything played out. I was not given a breakdown prior to the service beginning. Only a line on a phone to sign that I agreed to the price. I was not offered the opportunity to read what I was signing (nor did I ask, which is my fault.) no shoe covers were worn in our home which now has subsequent consequences for my time of needing to get out of the spot cleaner. Only after the project had been complete was I given an explanation of what labor went on (again my fault for not asking prior to). When I initially made the appointment, I was given the price for the service call, but I neglected to ask what their minimum job cost is (still not sure of what that is). Afterwards, I called the office trying to get a better idea of why the cost was so high. My frame of reference being that we had had a kitchen faucet and a disposal replaced within the last year with Fitzgerald and neither of these items including parts cost more than $400. The lady in the office was very kind and offered to put me in touch with the field manager. He did give me a call back after a few days however I was not in a place to chat with my Twins screaming in the backseat. I did call two other times to try and get in touch with him and have not received a call back to date. Overall, I learned a lot from this experience, and I believe it's important to share so that others understand how to advocate for themselves in an area in which they might not be technically skilled. Ultimately, they are well within their right to cash my check because I did agree to the price. I however will be asking a lot more questions next time, and probably be seeking a different company. I took their marketing for face value and feel like stewardship was mishandled. Our technician rusty was great! Very respectful that we had three children napping when he came to do repairs. After the repair, he explained to me what he did. Was very courteous to me. My only qualm was that he did not wear shoe covers and our home and had to walk through our master bedroom that has beige carpet and I will need to get out our spot cleaner to clean this up.
