I needed to have my gas furnace in my attic replaced after getting 30 years of service out of it. I contacted six HVAC businesses to come to my home and give me a quote. After evaluating all six quotes and speaking with each HVAC contractor I was most impressed with Sydney of Straight Line Heating & Cooling. Sydney was very professional and extremely knowledgeable, not to mention the best price of all six contractors! The proof is in the pudding, so to speak, and Straight Line did not disappoint. On the scheduled day of installation, Sydney's hard working son and knowledgeable co-worker came on time and performed the work. They were careful, clean, efficient and professional. They were one of the few contractors who were willing to install the furnace in my attic during the month of July when temperatures in the attic were 130+. Straight Line takes pride in their work which was very evident when I inspected the installation of the new gas furnace. Most of the other contractors planned to just place the furnace on the attic platform, which is not as earthquake stable as taking the time to hang it from the joist with all-thread and bracing it. They built a custom frame to hold the furnace to keep it from bending or twisting over the years. They installed a "full sized" drain pan extending the entire length of both the furnace and AC Coil. The attention to detail to make everything level and the craftsmanship that went into the installation was superb! I was most impressed with Sydney's idea to increase my air-intake utilizing my existing return-air opening by adding a second 14" tube without cutting the drywall ceiling opening larger as all the other contractors wanted to do. This not only saved additional costs, but actually was a superior design, adding a greater air-intake flow than what all the other contractors wanted to do which was to make the opening larger and putting in a single 16" tube. Now I have two 14" intake tubes, giving me 307 sq/in of intake flow, compared to only 200 sq/in of intake which the other contractors were planning to do. Sydney's decades of experience and hard working team, coupled with his excellent competitive pricing is the best solution bar none! I highly recommend Straight Line Heating & Cooling and will use them in the future when I need to replace my AC. Sydney even provided 3 brand new high efficiency registers at no charge and answered all my myriad of questions, both before and after installation. Sydney in fact encouraged me to ask questions, which no other contractor did and I was extremely satisfied with his answers and professionalism. Anyone considering replacing their HVAC system should do their homework by getting at least 6 quotes and you will be surprised at how competitive Straight Line Heating & Cooling is. I cant possibly say enough good things about this company. My 31 year old furnace went out in the middle of winter. I called a different company first who came out and went down a list of replacing a few parts for a fortune without actually diagnosing what was wrong. (none of these parts ended up actually needing to be replaced.) I realized they had no idea what they were doing so I told them to get lost. My furnace was still just as broken as it was originally so I called Straight Line after a google search. Sydney called me back immediately and talked to me at length about my furnace. He was polite, knowledgeable and I could tell that he was no BS. He came out quickly and looked at my furnace and explained that while he could fix it and replace parts, at 31 years old it was well past the end of its life and was also no longer efficient. I knew he was right, but I just did not have the budget for a new furnace at that time. Sydney listened and worked with me and was able to give me an OUTSTANDING deal on a new furnace. One that I was able to afford and was within my budget. He and one of his helpers came out a week later, installed the new furnace, and hauled away the old one within the span of maybe 4 hours. They were meticulous, clean and careful with the entire install and Sydney is so personable, he took the time to stop and chat with me a bit in between what he was doing. We have an all-electric home and our heating system, a heat pump, never warmed the house! After many years of being cold inside, and having an outdated A/C and NO heating, our system finally died, so we decided to invest in a new system. After getting four estimates, we chose to have a split-system installed to replace our old A/C -heater. We literally spent about half the cost of a traditional A/C-heater! The new system not only heats and cools the house quickly, but is also very efficient which translates into lower electric bills! Sydney thoroughly explained how the system works and walked through our house with us to show us what it would look like. At the end of summer, my AC unit outside was making some whining noise. Straight Line came out and checked it out. Said the fan motor was going out. Since Straight Line did my new ducting a couple of years ago and my unit was 20 years old, I decided to get a new AC Unit instead of repairing it. Not only did I get a great price on a new Trane, it was way more energy efficient and is going to save me money. Sidney scheduled the install and they were out on time and completed it the same day. Lots of work and it was getting hot outside, but they did a great job. So winter update, my heater was making noise when it started up, so I called Sydney and he came out and checked it out and found that the Inducer motor was getting ready to go at some point. Knowing that this part was not cheap and my heater was 20 years old, I opted for a new heater. Straight Line, scheduled the install and installed a new Lennox Heater. We are so pleased with the attention to detail the crew at Straight Line did in the setup for a new HVAC system for our 1941 mid-century home in Paso Robles. Being mostly single pane glass it was quite a challenge for them but they rose to the challenge and pulled it off. We also were pleased they saw the gutters were falling off our home and gave us a quote that beat all the others (who never showed interest in the job). The installation enhanced the appearance to the front of the home and our neighbors commented on what a wonderful job was done. Straight Line replaced my entire HVAC system in late July. I wanted a little time to live with it before reviewing. It went out in the middle of an early July heatwave, forcing a quick, nerve-wracking decision. Sydney said he could "put a band-aid on it" and get us cool in a couple of days for $1500-$2000, or install a new, quieter, more efficient system for (gulp) $14,000 and have some long-term piece of mind. I appreciated being presented with the options. I nearly chose the former option, but after considering adding value to the house, using less power with a more modern system, and not having to worry about it again, I'm glad I chose the latter. Came out shortly after the phone call and helped me determine the problem which I had begrudgingly already anticipated. The furnace was too old and needed replacement.
