Another slam dunk from the chefs at Stracci. We came here for a lovely dinner last night and had the peach and prosciutto pie and the brooklyner. Both were incredibly fresh and unique. Also, don't miss the summer salad! read more

If we were just considering the food, we would easily give Stracci a 5-star review. The food is excellent (albeit expensive and the victim of shrinkflation in both food and beverages). But the experience is greatly marred by the long wait time and the inaccurate estimate given by the host (tonight we waited over an hour and were told it would be 30-40 minutes). Last night we called first because the long wait is standard and were told it would be an 60-75 minutes so we didn't bother going. Had we known we'd be waiting an hour tonight, we would not have done so. When I pointed out to the host the inaccurate estimate in time, the manager came to our counter spot and first apologized but quickly became defensive. When I suggested having reservations with a few tables left open for walk-ins, she insisted that it would be worse for the customer, especially locals (which we are), longstanding customers who started going during the Pandemic when they started as a food truck. Reservations are widely used successfully by many other restaurants, so it makes no sense that Stracci would be any different. They seem confused about what they are--a food truck-type business that relies on volume and fast turnarounds or a gourmet pizza restaurant that cares about the customer's full experience? We hope they genuinely give this some thought and make sensible adjustments so that the experience matches the quality of the food. read more

So this a confusing place. It was once a food truck apparently, but is now a quite splendid sit-down restaurant (the food truck was parked out back). It takes reservations, and yet doesn't really offer traditional table service; with one ordering on a phone or at the counter. Extensive outdoor seating is available as well. They do a lot of online preorders and they offer limited amounts of things, and I saw at least one person turned away at 5:30 because they were out of something. I tend to rate places more on the quality of the end product and less on what you have to go through to get it, but be aware this place might take some planning. I ordered through a QR code on my phone, which feels a little disorienting (perhaps in a few years table service will seem anachronistic). Nonetheless, a magnificent salad appeared before I had even finished connecting my devices to their charger (not all seats have outlets, but I got lucky). Wonderfully complex in flavor and with just the right amount of dressing, my strawberry, gorgonzola, and assorted greens were worth savoring. For my pizza I ordered their main attraction but added mushrooms and calabrian chili. The pizza was of the sort that demanded close inspection, with a light, bubbly crust dotted by dollops of ultra-rich mozzarella over the lightest tomato spread. I added mushrooms and calabrian chili. This doesn't seem like a pizza that you'd want to get a ton of toppings on. The mushrooms were plentiful, but were in water and while tasty at the time made me slightly queasy thereafter; I wouldn't get them again. The chili added a nice contrasting flavor note. It was different than any pizza I've had in the Greater DC area (and I've had a few), and well worth making the effort. read more

I've only tried their pizza and Stracci offers more than just pizza. You can order freshly baked bread, desserts, spreads, salads and wines. From the curb you get the impression of an exclusive, eloquent pizza shop and then upon entering you realize it's a bona fide restaurant. I feel the need to mention this because some pizza shops in the DMV, in my experience, offer a dining area suitable for a quick in-and-out eating experience or you have a mid-level dine-in pizza experience that is reminiscent of that childhood that you'll remember forever. Their restaurant experience seems to be delightful. As for my pizza experience, I was left wanting more. This pizza is Roman-style so I'll preface my review by mentioning this is not a traditional-style pizzeria. It is light on the tomato sauce (if any at all) and the crust is very thin and airy almost resembling the texture of day old focaccia. If you are expecting thick or full-bodied pizza dough, copious amounts of cheese or the pizza texture you're familiar with due to the moisture delivered by the tomato sauce, understand this won't be that experience. I think for Roman-style pizza the expectation was spot on and perhaps consistent however my pizza was borderline dry. Not a bad experience at all however for a first shot it certainly was not a 4* experience. I will give them another shot and update my review as appropriate. read more

Good luck finding a place to sit unless you arrive at opening. And good luck if you think your to-go order will be out quick. When you place an order, it can take up to an hour on busy nights. It says they won't put "the finishing touches" on until you check in. That doesn't move your order up in the line. The staff, for the most part, are not very friendly. You'd think they would be since you order food from your phone using a QR code and really don't interact with them much. The Brooklyner is a good choice if it's your first time. And because of how expensive everything is, just stick to the pizza. I would go out of my way to eat at this restaurant but if I was in the area, I would maybe consider it. And that's a strong maybe. read more

The D.C. area does good pizza- thin crust, Detroit-style, fancy, D.C. area pizzerias expand what's possible on dough. Stracci Pizza is no exception. If you like good pizza, order from Stracci Pizza in Del Ray, Alexandria. Here's why: 1) Pizza: The menu includes six different pizzas, hitting many different preferences. They have white pizza, anchovy pizza, spicy pizza, meat pizza, etc. They something for everyone! You can also customize your pizza. Pizzas are Roman-style so they come out square (12 inches by 9 inches). One pie fills up one hungry person. I ordered eight pizzas on a Friday January evening and we all loved our pizzas. Each was unique and the ingredients were balanced. However, the Brooklyner either had a tiny amount of honey or it was forgotten. Honest mistake and it was easily corrected by adding honey at home. 2) Food: They have much more than pizza. We ordered the marinated gigante beans and a load of focaccia. Both hit the spot and I can say that was by far the best focaccia I've ever had. The texture was perfect. They also sell salads, dessert and other items. They even have a wine list curated to go with pizza. 3) Space: The pizza is made out of a trailer behind their small building. There are a few picnic tables outside with umbrellas and lights. Since it was a cold evening, most people ordered takeout. 4) Experience: Ordering was very easy to do online. I arrived early and our eight pizzas came out five minutes before the time I set since they knew I was waiting. The staff are super friendly and efficient. 5) Price: Pies range between $14-$18, but for quality pizza it's worth the price. Also, in an expensive area, the price tag isn't shocking. If you love pizza, Stracci is a must-visit. read more

FANTASTIC first meal at Stracci Pizza! We started with their meatballs topped with their Sunday gravy, famous stracci cheese, parmesan and salsa verde. They have a nice texture - crispy bits on the outside and soft in the middle. But, a little strange to find large chunks of onion and bread... I still didn't hate it though! Then we moved onto their fabulous Roman style pizza. I mean we didn't even have pizza this good in ACTUAL Rome. The crust is crispy and light all around, the sauce is sweet and chunky, the stracci creamy, drizzled with olive oil and basil super fresh. Then we had the luxurious chocolate mousse dessert with cannoli shell crumble, cherries and cream. Mamma mia! The service was amazing - food came out super fast and everyone was so friendly and accommodating. We devoured our food and can't wait to come back!! Ci vediamo a presto. read more

Delectable pizza with a unique roman style crust and house made Stracciatella. Appetizers were delicious but the pizza is the star. Large selection of wines and beer and cocktails. It was a bad air quality day so we sat inside, but I would love to sit out in the pizza garden next time. We had leftover pizza and it got better each day, even when cold! This is such a great spot to have right around the corner. read more

Very delicious pizza! It's a small place so get there earlier to make a reservation but definitely worth it

This was our first visit to Stracci Pizza, and they make our favorite pizza in the DMV so far. The Brooklyner, Johnny 'Za 'Za, and Erminia Roman-Style pizzas. The toppings were so fresh, and the crust was crispy and fluffy. We got there 15 minutes before the restaurant opened, and there was a line by 5:00pm. Our food arrived quickly, and it was all hot and delicious. Cute place, too. I just wish I had room for dessert, because the tiramisu was calling my name. Next time. read more

Outdoor seating only, no table service. The old-fashioned ($14) was okay. Beer was good. Cocktails were pre-made, you have to go in to the bar to order our drinks, pay & bring it back to our table. The heirloom tomato salad tasted good, but too small a portion for $12. Pizza was okay. You have to order food yourself, they give you a number and brings it to your table. I wasn't too crazy about the prices & self-service. Nothing special here. Probably wouldn't return myself, too many better options down the road in del ray that has table service, better bang for your buck! read more

First visit - I almost passed it since the trailer sits far back in the parking lot. I would recommend ordering online ahead of time to ensure they do not sell out. They have appetizers, pizzas and dessert options and of course you can build your own pizza. I ordered the Brooklyner ($18): pepperoni, sausage, ricotta, stracciatella (hand-pull and tatter fresh mozzarella then soak it in cream), Calabrian chili and honey. I'm amazed at how airy, crispy and doughy their crust is and how fresh and delicious the toppings are. Upon arriving, they had a specials board up so I also ordered a caponata with a loaf of their Ciabatta bread. To give background, Roman style pizza is high-hydration dough that is naturally fermented for 72 hours at cold temperatures. The long fermentation process combined with special dough handling and baking "alla pala" (directly on the hearth) result in a crust that is crisp, light and airy. I really enjoyed their pizza and I can't wait to come back! Whenever someone suggests pizza, my sentence starts with "I know the perfect spot..." read more

I had heard that Stracci's had the best pizza in the DMV and had to check it out myself. As someone who spent 3 months in the pizza mecca known as Connecticut I was skeptical of any pizza place not in or around NYC or New Haven. Much to my joy I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the pizza was. This place is known for their Roman style pizza, which as far as I understand is just rectangular pizza with a thin crust, and their stracciatella cheese which I would describe as a very creamy mozzarella. The stracciatella really stole the show for me as it was almost like a buttery lava and tasted very fresh. If you're looking to try this place get here before they open, we showed up 10 mins after open and ended up waiting an hour and a half. (Worth it you can order apps and drinks while you wait) read more

First time here and they did not disappoint!! We had a short wait sit down. Over all a very good experience. The menu is on a QR code and you order all your drinks and food through the app. You also pay at the end via the app. Ease if use and very convenient for us. We had a few glasses of wine and we started with the meatballs wow they were very good. We had the pizza the crust was very crispy the pizza over all was very good. The space is nice and it has a nice vibe. Really nice location. Definitely another visit for us! read more

Starcci's Pizza had a homey feel and welcoming staff. Service was great from beginning to end. The item I enjoyed the most was The Stracci pizza, perfect balance from the ingredients including the stracciatella cheese. The three cheese and chovy pizza was also delicious. A tad bit too much olive oil for my like but good nonetheless. Other items I was able to taste was the Rosemary focaccia, the dessert wine and cannoli. Focaccia will definitely be an appetizer I get for next time. read more

LOVED the food here. A couple tips/things - get there early and/or be ready and dressed to grab a drink and wait outside for a bit for a table - order the beans! - you do have to order by phone, this part I did not love. But at least they had paper menus - it gets very loud inside - really enjoyed the desserts as well - our table loved the tiramisu read more

Advice: Wait times on a Friday night are long (60-90min) unless you're there at opening, so just expect an hour & 15 minute wait for a table. More if weather limits outdoor seating. This is a very popular local eatery, with a small interior seating area, but many outside picnic tables & wire patio tables/chairs. No reservations for less than five diners, and we were three - so it's get on the wait list and... Once seated, everything is ordered by cellphone & then brought to your table. (They use the Toast app.) Our pizzas arrived before the bread, which was kinda out of order, but still good. The ficcocia was fresh & soft, and paired nicely with the green olive oil. The basic "house red" (Dolcetto Monferrato 2021) was a 4 oz pour at $12/glass. Very good in body & flavor, but not outstanding. We had three roman style pizzas, the Stracci, the Johnny 'Za 'Za, and the Brooklyner. The Stacci is a take on a margarita with crushed tomatoes, fresh stacci cheese & fresh basil leaves. The Johnny Za is more a ground Italian sausage, onions, lots of oregano, a light garlic cream sauce, and some light cheese. The Brooklyner is a pepperoni & sausage pizza, drizzled with hot honey. It's not super hot, but if you don't like spicy food at all - it's best to hold the hot honey. For afters, we had the tiramisu. This was the highlight for me. A bit "soft" with the cake fingers, bit light on the coffee dip, but the small chocolate espresso "peas" were a really nice add. It definitely elevated the meal. Don't expect to get out cheap either, if you eat in. Take out is a good option to consider, imho. But, it's still a $18-20 for a six slice pizza. Ambiance inside was L-O-U-D. It was packed, and the acoustics are terrible. I had to ask my wife seated across the table from me to repeat what she said 3 times. It's also a younger dinners spot, and when one table gets loud, all of them just talk louder to get heard. Dress is very casual, with bib overalls & dirty workboots as a repeated fashion statement. The food was a solid 4. Service, calling it a 3.5 (mostly because you use a cellphone to order & pay), atmosphere/ambiance was a flat 3, and the cost & wait times were a definite 2.5. I'm not against eating there again, but it's also not a "top ten" eatery for me either. read more

-staff was SO kind. There was an hour and a half wait on a Friday night (no rezzys here) but they made us feel very welcomed! ~ the hamachi app was 11/10 amazing ~I liked the white pizza -pizzas were a bit too crunchy for me-- I'm a doughy pizza kind of girl. So this is probably just a me thing (especially considering it was voted best pizza in north Virginia!)o read more

I don't want to rate this place because it is already soo busy and the wait for a table is regularly 1-2 hrs but what they have accomplished here is worthy of praise. The location is homey and dripping with comfort and charm. The staff are just so amazingly friendly, engaging, and on top of their game. They are professional but casual and you can tell they are hustling because they enjoy where they work. I want to give a detailed review of the food but doing so will make me crave it again. But as a born and raised New Yorker who is in the food business and have travelled extensively for work and pleasure the team at Stracci have introduced me to Roman Style pizza and it is a revelation? The meatballs are criminally good. The sides, appetizers, and salads all showcase a kitchen that understands how to extract the best flavors from the finest ingredients. Thank God for the long wait times because it's the only thing that keeps me from eating there every week which would surely pack on the pounds because I want to eat everything on the menu. So go with some friends, try everything have an amazing meal. read more

I dined here so low this evening. Like Han Solo. Anyway let me skip to the point. The food was great. I started with a tomato salad with burrata or ricotta I can't remember what it was. It was excellent. Then I rounded it off with a pizza with a few toppings. The dough was great the pizza was excellent. They prove their dough for 3 days here which is a big deal. The staff was pleasant. There is only one single thing that I have to say that is negative about this place. Oh by the way the ambiance to decor is really nice and they have outdoor seating which is nice. The one negative thing is that the waitress pushed me to do my entire order off of QR code and I hate that. Depersonalizes the entire dining experience. I'm sure I could have pushed back and ordered the regular way the old-fashioned human way but I was hot because I had walked a long way to get here doing my evening exercise and I just wanted to get the ordering over and get the food order going. So I QR code it but I did not enjoy doing it. Oh and I had a glass of multiple giano (say those words together) and it was excellent. In summary if you remove the robotic scan code part of the meal everything was great. read more

The best pizza I have ever had in northern Virginia is at Stracci (strah-chee)!! Everything we ordered was great, but my favorite was the Brooklyner with the Calabrian chile on the side (I like spice but this was a little much for me). This place is a 10/10!! WOW. If you live in Old Town or Del Ray and haven't tried Stracci yet, you're missing out! Let me tell you, their pizza is some of the finest I've ever tasted, and believe it or not, their salads are equally impressive. Personally, I never expected to be raving about a salad, but here I am! As for the pizza, I've had both The Stracci Bianca and The Erminia, with a slight preference for The Erminia, although you truly can't go wrong with either choice--it's all about personal preference. As for salads, I recently enjoyed the Little Gem Salad featuring pea leaves, artichokes, fava beans, ricotta salata, and creamy lemon honey dressing--it was absolutely amazing! read more

Food is so good and flavorful which made me come back and re order my last order which was "The Brooklyner" (make sure to get 24 month aged parm) and the meatballs. Service is good but they always make you wait 10-15m extra to get the last touches in... it shouldn't take that long I ordered 1 hour before and still had to wait extra and nothing was piping hot and had to reheat it again it was warm. The insides of the place look nice but a little tight. Pricing for food was a little over priced but food was amazing. read more

If you are looking for some unique, but tasty pizza Stracci is your place. I felt like the dough not only had great texture, but really good flavor as well. I was with a group and ordered 3 different pizzas. 1) Johnny Za Za: if you love a pizza with white sauce, this one will change your life. Awesome sauce cheese and toppings. It was recommended to us by a server and it did not disappoint. 2) Brooklyner: this pizza was great as well. It has a nice red sauce and the ricotta cheese elevates the pizza to a new level. I loved how there was a honey drizzle that added some sweetness. 3) The Stracci: just a pretty basic pizza, but good! I also got the meatball appetizer. It had so much flavor, but I would caution that it is not very big. Maybe only big enough to share with 2-3 people total. Service was fantastic! Wish I could give 6 stars to both Will and Jackson for taking care of my party of 7. read more

What a cool place! From the host stand, to the servers, to the managers, they're all incredibly nice and good at what they do. There was an inconvenience I experienced my first time dining there and the manager went out of her way to reach out and resolve things. That, plus the food and everything else has made me want to be a long-time customer. The outside and inside sections are completely different, which makes for a cool experience either way. There are long wait times, but they have a great system. Sometimes, there is a server outside taking drink and appetizer orders while you wait. This last time, you had to go to the bar. But it's right at the entrance, then they use tap and pay, and give you your drink right away, so it's incredibly quick and easy. Wow... What an AMAZING neighborhood joint, just off the main road in Del Ray (Old Town Alexandria - North)!!! We came here as a large group for a very special event and Chad was OUTSTANDING taking care of our group! In fact, the entire staff was excellent, on point, knowledgeable/helpful and very pleasant! The place is quaint and decorated to be comfy, especially considering it's a neighborhood pizza joint! They have an all house-made menu which is amazing! Their pizza dough is outstanding and so are their fresh, house-made toppings! The focaccia was very interesting, but something we absolutely loved! That salad we started with was incredible, loved the dressing on it!! If you're into wine, they put a lot of effort into their wine list and it's definitely worth taking advantage of! From bubbles to start, to whites with apps and salads, to reds with dinner - it's all spectacularly put together and enjoyable! We made reservations for a weekday evening with a largeish party. My brother and his buddies have been hyping this place up for months so as a pizza enthusiast, I knew we had to come. We ordered the stracci, brooklyner, stracci w pep, erminia, the johnny as well as a salad and meatballs, and their focaccia. We enjoyed every dish! However, I didn't find anything to be particularly outstanding. We loved how crispy the bottoms of the pizza were, but some of the dough on top was a little too thick with not enough sauce or toppings. Also some pizzas were better cooked than others. One of my friends said her favorite thing was actually the focaccia. It was very flavorful! But I wished it was a little toastier bc it was kinda flimsy and cold for my liking! We also tried the chocolate cannoli(too dark, I like white filling better), the gelato, and almond tart. Again, everything was good, but not particularly memorable or mind blowing. Overall we enjoyed the experience at Stracci. But we also feel like we got a good feel for their menu and don't feel the need to wait on a busy day to eat here either. If you like bread come here. Most of the pizza is like a crispy baguette but not as hard. The toppings are sparse, flavor is fine- no notes of garlic or herbs, really nothing besides olive oil and salt. Needed some balsamic to drizzle over the basil pizza and it was $5 dollars for less than half a tablespoon (no exaggeration at all). I almost ordered the $80 bottle to add a little "umph" to all the bread. The best pizza is the Brooklyn all the others taste about the same. I could replicate this at home with a brick oven. :/. My second time here. I think it's really good and my partner loves this place. It's small inside but makes for a nice cozy date night spot. We started with the Marinated Gigante Beans and Late Fall Salad. Both were delicious. It might sound crazy to rave over beans, but they were really good! We also had the The Brooklyner pizza and the The Three Cheese & 'Chovy pizza. Again, I enjoyed both of these but the crispy, airy, with a little chew crust is what makes it. Even though from reading the menu it seems like some of the pizzas have a lot on them, the flavors are really balanced and not too heavy. Really good pizza. Great food, nice people and an opportunity to work for your food. You MUST use your phone to order (or beg, repeatedly, that a server "help" place your order, which they consider an inconvenience). The place went to QR menu ordering. If you don't already use your phone to order and pay for things, you should set it up in advance, otherwise you'll need to set up Apple Pay or "create an account" for the absurd app Stracci uses. The entire dining experience was ruined by the fact that customers must use your phone for ordering, despite ample staff standing right next to you. COVID's past yet this establishment still wants to milk every dime of profit out of customers by having them do their own "digitial, efficient" ordering by QR code. It's like you get to be your own waiter at TGI'Friday's! Never again. read more
