The Brooklyner (4/5): Had a nice crispy undercarriage that I liked. The spicy honey added a little sweetness but not too much. I wasn't a huge fan of the stracciatella cheese... After many years of trying, my partner and I finally practiced patience and waited an hour for a table. I was quite surprised by the order at table by phone option but it did simplify a lot of the back and forth and waiting around. Of the things we got, I really liked the pizza! The brooklyner is pretty on par with trendy pizza these days--the hot honey and calabrian chili oil both paired super well with the crust. I wasn't a huge fan of the straciatella used but it did complement the overall package. Unfortunately, this place is a victim of its own success. The food is great, but we have only ever done takeout because it is almost impossible to get a table on a weekend night. However, tonight we learned that is also now impossible to even place an order. I started at 5:05 PM trying to place an order for 6:30 PM pick up. The earliest I could cash was 8:30 PM and when I called, nobody answered or returned my call. I don't see the point in offering takeout if a business can't fulfill the order in a timely manner. I am OBSESSED with this place. I was a little stressed out by ordering through an app instead of a server, but everything came out so fast that way! And the pizza may be my favorite not just in the DC area, but *anywhere.* How is the stracciatella SO GOOD?! Stracci Pizza is a must try restaurant in Del Ray. They only take reservations for parties of 5+ so expect a bit of a wait if you don't have one, but it's so worth it! We had a large party, so we opted for the famiglia menu, which was a sampling of their appetizers, pizzas, and desserts for $37/person. It was an incredible meal, and I highly recommend it! One thing to note is that a 20% service fee is added onto your check for a group. We weren't told, so we tipped 20% on top of that. After we realized it, we looked on the website & saw the fine print in the bottom corner of the menu that mentioned the service fee. Ultimately, it was on us and not that big of a deal, but it would've been nice & simple for the server to mention it when we paid. Worth the wait! We went on a beautiful Friday evening. It was PACKED and we had to wait for a long time to get seated. Thankfully there were some open standing tables to order drinks while we waited and the time passed quickly since we were able to enjoy some drinks. The pizza was delicious. We tried the Brooklyner and the white pizza - amazing dough, delicious ingredients. The service was friendly but they were a little flustered (understandably). Amazing experience! Went here for Valentine's today! I will start with the hard truths first and finish with the amazing experience second. They do not take reservations over the phone so honey busy holiday weekend or any given weekend. You will need to get there early and expect some wait times. We were told roughly an hour to an hour and a half away and it was exactly an hour and a half. Though it seems long, I promise you it was well worth the wait! The staff was very accommodating and super helpful walking us through the menus and the specials that they had that weekend. The food came out extremely quick while still being fresh, warm and flavorful. We had a great conversation with the people sitting next to us as well as the wait staff. I was excited to try this place and a few of us friends decided to check it out. We came on a weeknight at 6 and had to wait for 30 mins to be sat. The inside restaurant itself is loud, to a point where you have to yell to talk to those across the table from you. The pizza is very bready, just so much bread! I got the stracci bianca and that one I think was the worst one because it was just bread and stracciatella cheese. The johnny za za that my friend got was certainly better. Now the star of the show was definitely dessert--that tiramisu is to die for! Very perfectly balanced with just the right about of sweetness. I think next time I would just come back for this. The service was also not the best. In the middle of our meal we were asked if want boxes. On multiple occasions we were rushed and felt like they wanted us to leave. Genuinely my favorite pizza spot in the area - the bread/crust is always so perfectly crispy and chewy. The standout by FAR is the Brooklyner pizza! The hot honey really makes a huge difference, and I love ordering a side of marinara to dip the crust into. Other favorites are the caponata for appetizers, and the almond tart for dessert! So here's the story. I generally abide by some dining rules or guidelines. One of those is "pick another place if the wait is over an hour." Dining with a family is a whole thing, and time is never on my side. But we broke that rule at Stracci, and I'm glad we did. If you don't have a reservation, get here early. I ordered an Old Fashioned for myself and a Focaccia starter to keep the hanger away for the wife and boss/daughter. I highly recommend you order the bread. I'll mention it a couple more times if you get that far in this review. The service outside was very quick and attentive. That really stood out to me. Once seated, I was given permission to order with reckless abandon. Here's what stood out to all of us from our choices. The rosemary focaccia was worth ordering X3. The marinated cannellini beans are an excellent choice for bean- or veg-conscious diners. Save some bread for the meatball starter. That's also a top choice. My mixed drink was delicious X2. The Stracci Pie was fantastic! Save room for the Tiramisu. That's a short version of my suggestions. To sum up, Roman-style pizza is delicious. The staff is wonderful. Overall, the food was very yummy! There was an hour wait however when we arrived around 7:30 on a Friday. They add you to a digital waitlist that texts you when your table is ready. We walked over to a nearby sports bar for a drink while we waited. Once our table was finally ready we were seated indoors. The focaccia bread was amazing, especially with the whipped ricotta!! The bottom line: Well crafted Roman pinsa, delicious focaccia, on point artisanal cocktails, and friendly staff make Stracci a great place to eat. Ever since their COVID-times food truck, I've enjoyed Stracci at least monthly, often take out which is about 92% as good as in house (just a bit of heat and crunch lost). After spending some time in Rome, where you can get fresh, seasonal pinsa for about 5 Euro, I've craved the thicker crust but crispy pizza. Lo and behold, it came to me (at a Mitch higher price point). Thank you Stracci! Your brooklyner is a fave and the black Manhattan was perfect. I'm not a huge fan of crowded/lively, but Stracci is always filled to the brim and has a pleasant patio, that lets the noise waft away. This is an amazing pizza spot and very unique in the area! We have been several times and have never been disappointed by any of our visits. The pizzas kind of look small but they definitely creep up on you. The dough is SO fresh and soft and the toppings are always great. I love that they have seasonal and weekly specials too. During some of their summer months they have this crazy chocolate dessert with the best cherries. It's not always on the menu but if you see it, definitely order it! Stracci's amazed me. They're only open for about 3 to 4 hours every day except for two days out of the week and every time I go past there they're always packed. So I had to try them and it did not disappoint at all. The small house on the corner they turned into a very cozy and comforting pizza spot.
