My mom and I had an AMAZING meal at Stracci coming back from Baltimore on a Friday night. Stracci is very highly regarded for their Roman style pizzas, high quality ingredients, and authenticity (they are considered one of the best pizza places in NOVA). With that being said, they do have long wait times, especially on busy nights. Stracci doesn't have a reservation system in place and you must show up in-person to get your name on a waitlist or you can order takeout. I called in advance (7:30pm) and was told to expect an hour to an hour and fifteen minute wait for a table of two. When we arrived the wait time hadn't changed, but we decided to take a chance and put our names on the list. I received a text around 9pm that our table was ready and we were seated on the upper level of the restaurant. You can order drinks and some small plates while you wait for your table. The interior has a warm, inviting atmosphere that provides for a lovely dining experience. The service is prompt and very friendly. The ordering system is not typical, you start a tab on your phone via a QR code, is different but convenient.
Now for the food! We ordered the eggplant caponata, chicken liver mousse, the Brooklyner pizza, and the Three Cheese n' Chovie pizza. The pizzas are all Roman style, served on a thicker, airy, focaccia like dough. The eggplant caponata and chicken liver mousse were PERFECT starters for our meal! The focaccia served with the eggplant caponata was brushed with high quality olive oil and sea salt and paired perfectly with the flavors of the eggplant. The caponata had large chunks of flavorful eggplant with pine nuts and capers, not too heavy either! Now my mom and I both agreed the chicken liver mousse stole the show. While not super expensive, this was a luxurious appetizer. The mousse itself was super creamy and rich with great flavor complimented by the cherry mostarda and mustard seed. The salted crackers served with it were light and crunchy, pairing well with the texture of the mousse. The pizza arrived next and it was warm, served right out of the oven! The three cheese n' chovy was a white pizza with Sicilian anchovies, stracciatella, ricotta, pecorino, salsa verde, and garlic. The high quality anchovies with the salsa verde, which reminded me more of a pesto, paired harmoniously with the cheeses. The hand-made stracciatella cheese was to die for, so luscious and rich! Both my mom and I were blown away with the high quality of the anchovies and the bold flavor the pizza carried. The brooklyner was a red based pizza that offered lots of intense, but complimentary, flavors with pepperoni, sausage, ricotta, stracciatella, Calabrian chiles, and honey. The chiles added an element of heat while the honey offset the spiciness of the chiles by adding a subtle sweetness. The pizza had ample amounts of meats and cheeses. This is a must order if you come here! Overall all the food blew us away. We left more than satisfied with our experience and determined it was 100% worth the wait.
Stracci is a great establishment offering a nice selection of appetizers and pizzas! The quality of the ingredients and unique combination of flavors is really what made this meal stand out. Every single thing we ordered was different from the next, with their own flavor profiles. The service is super friendly and accommodating. They are really on top of things and pay attention to details to provide their diners with the best experience. The ambiance is great and perfect for a nice dinner. The location is super cute too, as it is off of a residential area. wish they could come up with a better, more efficient reservation system, considering how popular they are. All in all, this meal was astonishing and I would highly recommend dining at Stracci if you are in the area! read more
