I booked this hotel last minute at 1am. I booked based on reviews. Now there are a few things I…read moremust say it is NOT your typical hotel no boutique no BnB I can't explain it. I checked in the hotel very late the caretaker was helpful and nice. He even lugged my heavy ass luggage to my room. Getting to rooms is where it starts to get weird ... it's like you have to leave bread crumbs down to make sure you find your way back to where you started. Literally out down over through up turn left right I was like wtf where am I going. Yes it is a very old hotel or whatever. It is like a scary movie I felt Norman Bates or Jack Nicholson was waiting for me at any second. The place is huge and very very eclectic. It's very unique I mean if it were a house I would love to live there because of the uniqueness. But I have to admit pretty spooky at night but the room is comfortable clean the AC blasted water pressure cool. I find in Europe most Queen beds are twins together so that didn't bother me the tub was clean I didn't have to wear shower shoes. The only drawback was NO IRON so most of my clothes I wore stretched since I couldn't iron. No coffee machine it had a fridge. They mentioned something about misquotes but I didn't have an issue. All in all it is different yet cool and very close to a lot of stuff.

Although we had a number of non-standard needs due to multiple family members arriving at different days and times, everything went very smoothly and the staff were gracious and accommodating. Special thanks to Erika and Laura who helped us set up some storage for our luggage for the several hours post-checkout as well as arranging a cab for travel outside the city. Really everyone was super helpful and we intend to return at the next opportunity! The hotel itself is also fantastic and represents the classical Italian aesthetic ina very appealing way. Good WiFi, excellent breakfast buffet, no hotel restaurant but super nice courtyard. Reasonable cost, 10 minute walk to the Duomo and Central Market. Decent AC and bathrooms! Thanks for the experience Hotel Monna Lisa!

When you leave to see the city, you leave your key up front and it gives an added sense of security since you know you won't lose it in the Florence crowds. Also the free breakfast exceeded my expectations-- huge selection and delicious! Nothing like being greeted by a cute dog as well!

I really like this hostel!…read more Location: it's right next to the train station and a short walking distance to the piazzas, the Domo, the leather market, and everything. Crowd: somehow there were a lot of Asians that booked this hostel. I was in a room of all Asian girls, I'm Asian myself and maybe they wanted to put us all together? Hostel: the rooms are freaking huge! It's old though but huge! The place is sooo big. They have courtyards and garden areas, big cafeteria that you can order food. The breakfast is the best breakfast ever for any hostel!! I'm not talking about bread, cereal, and a muffin. I'm talking about a selection of breads, sweets, real food (rice Wth seafood, tomato rice, meatballs with sauce, little hot dogs with veggies, eggs, eggs with bacon, a killer drink machine that makes the best cappuccino!) the breakfast was amazing and they did not cheap out. It was buffet style as well. The bathrooms were plentiful with showers. There's a 2am curfew and a 11pm quiet time. So if you wanna party go somewhere else, because the receptionist guy will give you crap. And tell you to shut up. The wifi is everywhere! And it's pretty good. Hey also have computers you could use as well. And they sell food and water for cheap. They don't try to over charge. A big water bottle was less then 1 euro! Other places sell that for 3 euros. Price was really good for hostel, under 30 euros. This was probably the best hostel I stayed at! Totally recommend if you are in Florence!

They have a very small capacity and it is family run. I once stayed here when my apartment lease was up and my plane ticket wasn't for a few more days--they had a vacancy, so they upgraded me from their single bed room to a king. I can't tell you how amazing this was after sleeping on effectively a cot for the four months before it. They're kind people and it's run top notch. Proximity to the train station is awfully convenient too.

Hotel Mario's is conveniently located about a three minute walk from the train station and about five minutes from El Duomo. Unlike most European cities, Florence is not at all shady around the train station, so don't be scared that by its proximity to the train station (which is seedy inside). I will say Mario's isn't the BEST location, however, as it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the river, and a lot of the better restaurants are located on the other side of the river. Nonetheless, Florence is a small, walkable town so nothing is that far away. The hotel lobby is one level off the street. If you need help with your luggage, don't hesitate to ask - service is very friendly! Our room was really big by European standards, and cutely decorated. Wi-fi was fast, reliable and cheap. The people at the front desk were incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast, included with the room, is a typical European breakfast, but with great coffee, even cappuccino. It's not a luxurious hotel by any means, but it's spacious, clean, quiet and has great service. You won't be disappointed.

The stairs are a few steps away from our door and I forgot they were there and tripped down the stairs. Miraculously landed on my feet. The rooms weren't updated but had a nice Italian charm to them. They refill the complimentary mini bar everyday and it came with snacks and a variety of drinks, which we enjoyed. The rooms were also a very decent size. The beds are extremely firm and not in a good way. We looked it up and that's how Italians like it. The buffet breakfast had a good variety and was very busy. If you are lucky, you get to sit by the window with a view of the duomo. I noticed the staff ask a few people if they wanted a cappuccino or another drink that wasn't being served at the buffet but we were never asked and it was hard to flag them down.

The front desk people were helpful when asked. The buffet breakfast was pretty standard but, we had a hard time getting a cappuccino. By the time we had found someone to ask each morning, we were pretty much done with breakfast. The room was nice but, clearly had not been maintained in a bit. Due to the time of year, the AC was not on but, opening the window got rid of the stuffiness. The bed was a bit hard compared to my liking and other places we have stayed in Italy. I did enjoy the complimentary bottle of Chianti Classico that we were able to enjoy on the roof! This hotel had great views for sure.

Probably most disturbing was the cleanliness of the hotel room. There was dust, hair and dirt on surfaces. The bathroom was one of the grossest in a hotel I have stayed at. We were so close to a lot of shopping but we went for miles of walking, people watching, window shopping, real shopping and enjoying the sights and fresh air. The Hotel is cute, well run, and they will get you an Uber or taxi if you need one and also make great dinner reservations for you. We went when there was a lot of people so we had to trust them on their reservations, which were excellent being most restaurants were completely booked. The room is clean. My Mum and sister had their room because they wake up early and I wake up late. I had my own room with a door I could close so that was neat. When you leave they make up your room and they do an excellent job. The beds were neat, clean, and comfy. We adjusted the room temperature to our liking. We slept their well for the two nights we were there. If I had a critique it would be to increase the water pressure in the shower. After a day of walking everywhere it would be nice to wash away the day. All in all I would definitely return. Definitely!
