Me outside Storm in a Teacup at dawn :)

Last night I went for a drive looking for water. I ended up lost in co. Dublin but then I saw the light... A little ice cream shop by the harbor of Skerries called Storm in a Teacup. One star for look of the shop : I have to admit it is quite beautiful ! Everything has been carefully decorated and the place looks like a ice cream shop for dolls :D On the right side of the shop you can sit and enjoy your ice cream. There are two benches, one yellow and one pink. I took a picture of myself sitting on the yellow one. It has a heart on the front of it ! One star for the decoration inside : I don't have any picture but it is totally cute too ! Once you come in, you basically are face to face with ice creams, toppings, and sauces. You can order hot drinks, smoothies, pancakes... Whatever sweet stuff your heart desires, here it is ! One star for the people : These 3 girls were cleaning the shop and getting everything ready for the next day. Even if it was quite late when I arrived (maybe 10h30pm or so) they were welcoming and sweet - just like their shop :) One star for the ice cream : I had a mint and chocolate chip ice cream - 2 scoops actually - in a cup with a transparent blue spoon. Didn't have any topping (I'm on a diet ssshhh !) I ate it outside, facing the sea and the sunset... It did taste wonderful ! One final star for the overall experience : I did not see much of Skerries that night but the bits I saw were special. Now I understand why it's called the Storm in a Teacup. It's because your senses are alert ! I enjoyed eating my ice cream while smelling the sea, watching the sunset, feeling a warm breeze brushing my skin, and listening to the gentle crush of the waves on the beach...

The mark of a good 99 in my humble opinion is that ice cream should get right down into the very bottom and secondly the height of the ice cream should give cause for cocern should it slide off and onto the path for a passing dog to eat. Based on these two standard I give a 5. Well located and efficient staff and by no means pricey.

Such a cute place near the Harbour! They do crepes as well as icecream. Great choice of flavours and toppings. I went with two scoops in a cup and got cookies and honeycomb. Both were delicious. The queues can be big (we were lucky that we got there at a good time) but it's well worth queuing for. The staff are lovely. If you're out in Skerries you should definitely visit here.

    Special day!! Xx

Love this place, great ice creams, fab selection and friendly. The queues can be long but that's a great sign of quality.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I would have liked some fruit as a topping option. Wow. It's true though. It would have been nice if there was some tables inside. And also, the place seemed to have been ransacked, and could have done with a good deep cleaning (around the window especially) and maybe a new lick of paint. Regardless, the staff did well taking orders and getting folks what they wanted. The ice cream was good.

The queue was huge but from what I had heard about this place it was to be expected. But in fairness to the staff the queue moved pretty quick considering. I looked at the giant sundae type things they had on the wall. There was one which was called a Snicker Bocker Glory. It sounded incredible, indulgent and so wrong. I had to have it. I was with my cousin and her young daughter and I have to say the staff are pretty amazing. Super patient with everyone including the indecisive chislers. I got my Snicker Bocker Glory which had fresh whipped ice cream, Snickers ice cream, caramel sauce and bits of Snickers going through it. I have to say I was left pretty underwhelmed. I thought the plain whipped ice cream which seems to be their staple was pretty bland. The Snickers ice cream was again not what it should be. I think I had maybe 6 or 7 spoonfuls until I actually gave up. Maybe an off day for the ice cream makers? I dunno. But based on what I got I probably wont be back. The 3 would probably be a 2 if it weren't for the deadly staff, they really are great.

You get to choose two of your favourite flavours (had vanilla and coconut first time and then vanilla and honeycomb today), which are scooped over a split banana and then topped with whipped icecream, drizzle the two aforementioned sauces and viola, heaven on a plate. I did ask for some nuts on mine today and was told I couldn't have any on this dish. Umm what? You scoop the nuts with your spoon and sprinkle them all over my ice-cream, sounds pretty straightforward to me... I would have paid extra if it came down to it, but I was scared to ask after the lady behind the counter told me no nuts for me. Also if the banana was a bit more ripe, that would be sweeter! €4 for the lovely dessert. Perfect after a spicy Nando's lunch.

For my second son I was served by the second woman wearing glasses, who was exceptionally rude from here on, she asked what flavour and then shouted TUB or CONE. I asked for a tub again, she asked if I wanted any toppings and I said chocolate, she put some chocolate sauce on it then my 3 year old son asked if could have some sprinkles, she refused to spread any sprinkles over it saying sprinkles go on before sauce, I said he doesnt care but she still refused, she then tried to charge me twice the price for it and i had to ask her why it cost twice as much as my 4 year olds son, she said it was a mistake and handed the cash back to me with out saying sorry or thanks or anything. In ireland we are used to people at least treating their customers with some sort of respect, but to behave like that and to refuse to put a couple of sprinkles on ice cream for a 3 year old child just simply beggars belief. NEVER AGAIN.

Long story short, I was on a trip to Portugal and Spain with my boyfriend (first time in Europe for both of us), and we decided to take a 7 hour layover in Dublin (because why not!). We have an unofficial mission to try ice cream in every new state/country we travel to, so when we saw Scoop, we decided to go for it even though it was still early morning. They hadn't set up the ice cream in the display yet since it was so early, but the guy helping us (more about him later) told us the range of flavors they had, and we decided to go for Cream and Pistachio. To say the ice cream was good would be an understatement, and I hesitate to say this because it's a bold statement, but this may have been the best ice cream/flavor combination I've ever had! The pistachio was complex, delightfully nutty, and didn't have any of that artificial pistachio flavoring that is unfortunately too common, and the cream was light, refreshing, and a perfect complement to the nuttier flavors of the pistachio. Ugh, I was in ice cream heaven. If I'm ever in Dublin again, this will probably be stop #1 (plus, it's the first place I officially visited in Europe so it'll always have a special place in my heart). Top off the amazing ice cream with even more amazing service. I really wish I remembered his name because he deserves all the credit in the world, but the guy behind the register was so personable, patient, and polite! Not to mention, he gave us a free latte to welcome us to Dublin. We ran into the owner (?) as well during the visit, who was also very warm and welcoming. I noticed that this location is currently unclaimed, but owners - if you ever see this review, open a location in the US please :D And thanks again for your amazing ice cream and hospitality!
