Storage Scholars - UC San Diego student storage 1 star We used Storage Scholars to move my daughter out of UC San Diego in June 2026 and to move her back in this fall. When we booked, they advertised door-to-door service and gave us a price that was supposed to cover both the pickup, storage, and delivery back to campus as the total cost. When the movers arrived for pickup, we had to bring everything out to them at the curb. That is not door-to-door. Her dorm mates used other companies and they came directly to the room without any extra hassle. Those services were also quite a bit cheaper. When it came time to schedule the fall delivery back to UC San Diego, we learned only a couple of dates were included at no extra charge. Any other date is treated as a "special move-in" with an extra $300 fee. Moving in the day before or the day after those dates does not have the extra charge. The limited complimentary dates and the extra work required at pickup were not clearly explained when they quoted the original price. The service ended up being the most expensive option we looked at and the least accommodating. We will not use this company again. read more

They had open communication and made the process stress free even tho my cousin had a ton of stuff and had never navigated a move (idk how he fit it all in the dorms). As for customer service, they were able to quickly look into an issue I was having with my booking and was able to get everything resolved same day. The customer service agent (I didn't catch her name) was super helpful and communicated well while she was figuring out solutions. The customer service during the sales process was excellent. After I expressed interest, I received multiple follow-up emails and text messages, which ultimately led us to sign up and pay the $50 registration fee that was advertised as including a moving kit with five boxes, a permanent marker, and a roll of tape. Unfortunately, some important information was not clearly communicated. If you want to receive the complimentary moving kit, you must separately order it through the website. Despite the many reminder emails sent by the company, not one mentioned the need to order the free box kit. In addition, if your student attends UCLA, the service does not include pickup directly from the dorm. The boxes must be placed on the street at a designated time for collection. Overall, the service did not match the explanation that was provided during the sales process, which was disappointing. read more

I was very disappointed in the delivery process that was outside the complimentary dates. I paid $300 extra for delivery to my son's apartment near campus. They had the wrong phone number which I had corrected twice that day (The same company used the correct number in May). Instead of reaching my son, they delivered the boxes to the lobby which is a block away from his unit. The pickup process on campus at his dorm was fine. read more

Horrible experience. They have very nice people who call you incessantly to get you to sign up and it's a scam. They are complete liars. They charge double what they told you and you can't do anything because they have your stuff. Horrible, horrible company. They told me it would be 800 and I got a bill for 1300. The manager has posted here that I stored triple what I had originally told them and that is a complete lie. They picked up items and "stored" them that were obviously trash. $60 to store a $5 white board. $160 to store a broken shelf. On top of it, I was told I had to pay 4 months of storage when they know the college kids are only gone for 3 months over the summer. They are dishonest and fleece these poor students, including my son. When I asked them to discard these items I did not agree to have stored, I was told that would be an "additional fee" and the fee was more than the original cost they invoiced me for. The business is a scam. They trap you, overcharge you after they have all of your items in your possession and then try to tell you that you agreed to things you did not. I did post on every platform I could think of. I am 55 and do not post negative reviews but this was so appalling to me, I felt it important for others to know. They will do exactly what this guy did-commenting on my post-trying to justify their predatory behavior. read more

I wouldn't recommend Storage Scholars : "The company charges you for a minimum of FOUR months even though the summer break is only three months long." High Item Fees: The cost per item can quickly add up, leading to total bills far exceeding expectations. "Next, the cost is about $40 per month per item, so having them store five relatively small items runs about $200 per month (5 x $40)." Special Delivery Fees: There are often additional substantial charges for delivery dates outside of a narrow, pre-selected window. "On top of all that, they only give you two 'complimentary' delivery dates on the back end, so if those dates don't work for you, they charge you an ADDITIONAL $300 for 'special delivery.'" My total for 5 boxes and 5 items $1,562 for the summer. read more

This is an incredible service if your child attends a school that is not local. We had some unexpected changes and had to store our child's items during their year of absence, and then have it all shipped back to our home. It was great to know their items were safe, the extended storage prices were clear, and communication was proactive. Once it was time to have to sent home (instead of to school), they were very kind in getting it all arranged and everything arrived pretty quickly. Everyone who I spoke with over the phone was professional, kind, and helpful. It can feel a little expensive but if you consider the amount of time you're saving by not having to haul everything to a storage place yourself, and especially for unexpected events like ours, I think it's absolutely worth it! read more

Do not send your stuff through storage scholars!!! They are terrible. They misplaced my son's boxes and still have not delivered them! They have terrible customer service. I have called three times and they. constantly give me the runaround. Today they told me that they were waiting to receive the lost packages at another storage site, though the original one where they were misplaced was only TWO HOURS away by car. They absolutely do not care if you get your things or not! Much easier and cheaper to just send your kids his own packages. They are really expensive and really bad at what they do. read more

1 star We used Storage Scholars for my daughter at Tufts and had a terrible experience. The movers arrived hours earlier than scheduled, rushed her packing, spoke only to each other in Spanish, and never communicated directly in English. She panicked, forgot two large items, and had to scramble to pack an 11th box when they returned. They then charged us $64 for that extra box -- even though the chaos was caused by their early arrival. Now, they're demanding a $300 surcharge to deliver her items on August 18 or 19, even though those are standard Tufts athlete move-in dates. Their only free delivery option is August 27, which is far too late for many students. This feels like they're holding belongings hostage. My daughter also tried to leave a 7 or 8-star review, but their system wouldn't accept it until she entered a 9. Be warned -- this company is not what it appears to be. read more

I would give zero stars. I used this company to store my belongings at Tulane University. The pickup process was fine. However, everything went wrong when they were dropping things back off. For starters, this all cost TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS. Ridiculous and scummy for the horrible customer service they offer. The website said they were delivering at 9 am. They did not arrive until 3 pm. When they arrived, they were not capable of carrying my things, so my boyfriend had to help, which we did not pay for. If we were going to have to move items ourselves, I would've saved my money or hired a company that didn't exclusively hire incompetent people. Then, hours later, I realize my desk is missing, AND multiple items are damaged clearly by neglect. Not only do they give me zero assurance they are looking for my desk -- I could also tell they were blatantly lying about looking for my item. Days go by, and they are repeating the same thing over and over: "We're looking." After 3 days of nothing, I went and bought a new desk because I had school in a day, and I had lost faith in the company. Of course, the day I start school, they find my desk. I did not pay two thousand dollars for my desk to not be there when school started. There are 100% better options than this joke of a company. A toddler could come up with a better business model. I seriously hope this company goes out of business. And to whoever is in charge of this company: there is a special seat in Hell waiting for you. read more

I can't express the heartbreaking experience of losing items like letters, gifts, and photos of loved ones. THE W.O.R.S.T.! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We used them for an Emory move-in. From start-to-finish: a terrible experience. On move-in day, they showed up soooo late, and didn't have one of the retailer shipments sent directly to them. Though we had confirmed this to have been received THREE times with their Customer Service a week earlier, it didn't arrive. After many more frustrating conversations, they then claimed FedEx didn't deliver it to the correct address - which of course they did - and it was my issue to take up the refund/reorder for this item myself. In the meantime, we're scrambling to find this item on the busiest dorm retail week of the year. No luck. No fun. Freshman move-in day is emotional - you don't need to add this chaos to your experience. So much $$ for the worst service. Please believe the bad reviews here on Yelp. USE ANYONE ELSE. After many phone messages left, emails, attempts at navigating the website to give the move-in date, and actual phone communication talking to a real person (which took forever), we still did not have ANY of the boxes delivered on the day they said they would. THEY WERE TWO DAYS LATE, LEAVING OUR DAUGHTER WITH NO BEDDING OR BELONGINGS except for what she brought with her. We asked for a refund, which they refused to give. WARNING DO NOT USE Storage Scholars, they are crooks! I would give ZERO stars if that were an option. We hired them to move our daughter from her dorm at SMU with the assurance all of her belongings were in good hands. WOW....quite the opposite. They not only misplaced or rather stole 8 boxes of personal belongings conveniently containing designer items such as sneakers, dresses, sweat suits, and pant suits but they also broke more than half of our stored items. The TV was shattered, our floor mirror cracked, both container store carts crushed and broken, custom neon sign broken, two Bassett Marble lamps, crushed and broken beyond repair....the list goes on and on. We are so disappointed in the mismanagement of our personal items. The day of move in we questioned the missing items along with the visually broken items. After 8+ weeks of back and forth, they are now stating they will not take responsibility for the missing/stolen items nor will they replace anything. The max payout they claim is $600 while we are out of pocket more than $22,000 for the damaged, broken, and missing items. I am initiating legal action immediately for damages. I would take extreme caution if you elect to use them. read more

Had a great experience with storage scholars. They had dates that worked for me available and even made my last minute sign up a breeze. Pro tip- make sure to properly label all your stuff before handing off to movers to make your pick up and drop off easier and quicker. Also my mover texted me ahead of time with a tip to put a slip of paper with my name in the box at the top in case any labels fell off. Would recommend! read more

But they cancelled my shipment because they claimed that I did not give them a call before my shipping date to confirm the shipping (they even did not call me, and they claimed that it should be me to call them). They said that now I have to pay an extra 300 dollar for a single box to be shipped, and this is totally ridiculous. Update: Now, instead of shipping my box, they directly told me my box was stolen and they feel unfortunate about it. Totally disgusting and a disaster. read more

A 10/10 service! This is a great service to offer college students, especially when they are going to school states away from their parents. They picked up my students items over spring, stored them and then returned the items to us in the fall, it was the easiest process. They were extremely helpful if we called asking any questions and even gave recommendations on how to store specific items we had concerns about. Will definitely be using them again!
