Hey Whomever is in charge of this. I RESENT this 30 day business with GAS points. I was zooming up to 400 pts where I could take off 40cents a gallon, and maybe save $4. on a fill up. When I attempted to do this I discovered that ALL of my points were GONE!! These little points may mean nothing the SnS Corp. but they mean a heck of a lot to ME!!! This is honestly the most disgusting dirty grocery store I've ever been to. On top of that the meats in the back of the store that were packed were BLOWN up with air (this indicates that it was left out of a fridge too long and bacteria is growing and letting off gas causing the ballooning to the packaging.) i honestly feel like if I were to continue shopping here I would end up with food poisoning from the food due to improper storage and food safety procedures. Don't waste your time going here and go to another store it's appalling how disgusting it is here and I wouldn't trust a single food item. read more

Since this is the closest Stop & Shop, my husband come here to get things here and there. Today we were absolutely disgusted. The chicken breasts were packaged poorly with slime a liquid pouring out from all of them. I don't know who handle the meat department, but they need to step it up before this store ends up with a lawsuit on their hands. People can get really sick from this. read more

Never ever enough cashiers at normal hours..forget about running in for something quick. The self check out technology is rude, and cannot accept bottle redemption slips, so you have to go wait in line at customer service...and we won't even talk about how expensive it is. We have no other choice in Winsted. It is an awful experience.. read more

Each time I visit this store it fails to include the digital coupon I clip to give me the sale price!! I always end up calling the clerk over to change my item(s) to the advertised sale price. It's happened way too many times to be a coincidence! Besides this issue, their prices are the worst! read more

It's not a bad Stop and Shop, but something about it feels smushed. The parking situation isn't too bad, and they have a gas station for gas rewards points. The store is pretty clean, as are the restrooms. They did take out several registers for a self-check out area, which is nice if you're only buying an item or two (because the space is a bit cramped, you're not fitting much more in that space). read more

Not my favorite supermarket to shop at. Only saving grace is the salad bar -- it is outstanding. Otherwise, the aisles are narrow, the checkout lines always seem way too long, and the parking lot (as another Yelper has noted) can be dangerous with the amount of traffic. And don't even think about shopping here on the weekends, it's a nightmare ! read more

I went to aldi's and got the following: - 2 bags of brussel sprouts aldi price 2.29 per bag..stop and shop was 2.99 per bag..total savings 1.40 - 38 oz non brand ketchup aldi price 1.19 stop and shops price 2.79 total savings 1.60 - celery aldi price 1.39 stop and shops price 1.99 total savings of 0.60 - 3 bags of green beans aldi price per bag 1.49 stop and shops price per bag 3.29 for a total savings of 5.40 - fresh pineapple also price 1.49 stop and shop price 2.99 total savings 1.50 -avocados I bought four aldi's price 0.49 per stop and shop price per avocado is 1.66 total savings of 4.60 - 5 lbs of grapefruit aldi's price 3.99 stop and shops price $10 total savings 6.00 - 1 cantaloupe aldi's price 1.99..stop and shop price 3.00 savings of 1. My total bill at aldi's was 21.06 vs stop shops of 43.26..saving total of 22.20 or 105% So you pay a quarter for the cart you get back and bag your own groceries. Additionally aldi's cashiers get you out very quickly. Besides aldi's parking lot in great shape compared to the really large potholes in stop and shop in winsted. This week's ad featured a number of items I went in to purchase. The sale begins on Friday. On Sunday, nearly all of my downloaded coupons were useless because the sale items were gone. Chicken thighs at .99/pound, gone. Country spare ribs, gone. There are so many examples, I cannot count. Meanwhile, the Instacart shopper has about 20 bags on her cart, and she's loading multiple sale items to all of the bags. This SS has had compromised supply, long before the distribution shortages and the pandemic. Torrington and Canaan have plenty of everything. I don't know what the problem is with the Winsted/Barkhamsted store. read more

This is the worst stop and shop I have ever been to. I have been shopping at stop & shop for years. Love stop & shop but not this one. The mangers are nasty. I have seen them talk to customers and staff very inappropriately. Ann Marie and Desiree are so rude and when you bring something to their attention they act like its you fault. Even one female employee said she would like to help out more but gets yelled at when doing so. Unfortunately there are not a lot of options for shopping in this area. I am also handicap and don't drive so I am stuck using this hell hole. read more

Ok first of all, dont get me wrong, I've had great experiences hear before. But recently this place really pushed the wrong buttons. As a mom of 6, I needed A LOT of food for my 37 nieces and nephews that were coming to celebrate my 64 yr old son's first girlfriend. BUT when I came here the customer service was very bad and no help at all. The guy who was helping us didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. ALSO, this shop has no designated baking section that I could find, and I missed out on cakes in a cup because of this. Needless to say, I would only recommend shopping here as a punishment for my children. read more

Worst seafood dept anywhere. They have overpriced Seafood then sell at a reduced price and package after fish already goes bad. Fresh fish should have NO stron ammoniated smell! It was remodeled a few years back, but its still nothing special. I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to shop here and only do so on the way to visit family. But if you live in winsted, there aren't many options besides this location and the IGA on Main Street. Torrington has more, but you have to drive longer. The deli is ok, the bakery is often unappealing so don't go there for that, just go for sales or staples to fill your shelf. It does the job. read more

"My significant other and I are frequent stoppers at the Stop and Shop in WInsted, my family also has gone there since I was a kid. There are employees that frequently recognize and say hello to us when we are there, and every employee I have come across has been outstanding. I'd also like to stay that this store is always clean and organized. That being said, it was incredibly shocking this evening when we had gone through the self checkout line. As I said, I have been going for years and am not illerate to using the self checkout station. The gentlemen by the name of Howard, was the overseer for the self checkout area. The problems I encountered are stated below: Howard raised his voice at the two of us in the middle of self checkout station, implying that we were not using the system correctly. As you probably know, there is only a certain amount that those stations can hold, and it allows you to remove bags as you bag but only at certain times. That being said we moved the bags "too quickly" and the prompt came up to put the item in the bag. Howard again came over--incredibly rude I might ad--and with an incredibly ignorant and unprofessional demeanor said "I told you not to move the bags". To which he then continued to instigate with other people in line about how it isn't that hard, speaking negatively under his breath. I will not lie to you, I may have unkindly explained that he was unhelpful so far and that I knew what I was doing. He made us feel incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassed. I also said to him that we wouldt have to move the bags if the whole bagging station had been stocked, which it was not. When I brought that to his attention he stated that it wasn't his job to order bags, and that you were out of them. I proceeded to ring my groceries out then went to your service desk. I did not get the woman's name there, but she sensed also unwilling to assist me with the issue after I explained to her that Howard was incredibly rude to us. Didn't offer to give a time to speak to or reach the manager on duty or give me any way to contact anyone about the issue that happened until I asked her for it. When I returned home I tried calling the store around 7pm maybe shortly after. I was told that I would be transferred to the manager on duty, left on hold for almost ten minutes, then told that they were too busy and again had to ask who I could speak to and I when they would be available. I was told to contact Desiree tomorrow between 6am and 2pm. Please expect to hear from me. As a business operator myself I know as well as you that your employees should make no attempt to make your customers feel anything but appreciated, and if this is the standard that you hold your employees to I will be finding someone else to consult about this within your corporation. I spend almost $300 dollars a week between stop and shop and stop and shop gas, but I am happy to take my business to price chopper, Aldi or even price rite if this is the type of behavior you and your management staff condone. Maybe there is a better spot for him that he wouldn't be directly involved with your customers, for I would hate to cause loss of a job. I hope you take this incredibly seriously because I would have immediately fired an employee that spoke to one of my guests like that. Thank you for your time, I expect to hear from you, preferably via telephone." I sent this to Stop and Shops online survey over a week ago and have yet to hear a single word from any management staff or employee. I am disgusted and will never return to this store. Clearly a non welcoming environment is something that the management staff in this store will continue to condone, and I will not use my hard earned money to disrespected by members of the Stop and Shop community.
