I was pleasantly surprised with the ambience of this Stop & Shop. The store is very clean, well-stocked, fully staffed, and they even played great music that seemed to put everyone in a happy, dancing mood. The layout of the store made everything easy to find and access. Nothing on my list was out of stock. The selection of fruits, vegetables and meats, offered a wide variety of sizes and prices. My favorite area is always the florist, and Wallingford did not disappoint. It included almost a whole wall full of beautiful arrangements. If you shop here, be aware that the deli slicers are never cleaned throughout the day. I know because I worked there and none of the employees clean them. All they do is click on a tablet, reporting that they cleaned it, but they didn't. It gross. read more

This store sucks. It's like it's gone downhill since my review almost a month ago. I'd rather stop at the one in Bloomfield or New Britain as both are on my way home from work than come to this one. For Saturdays and Sundays typically being the most busiest days of the week, this store always looks like a bomb went off in it with boxes of stock-both full and empty-scattered amongst the aisles. The dairy aisles starting from the cheeses all the way to the yogurts are never stocked and are impossible to navigate as the stop and shop drones feel the need to keep their u-boats directly in the middle of the aisles making it nearly impossible for one person to navigate a cart down an aisle, never mind 4 or 5. Good luck finding items on sale as they're never on the shelves or in stock. If you like higher end grocery items, they're all most never there. The produce section looks dirty as of late and nothing is every fully stocked. The weigh and scan stations have not been operable on my last four visits which kind of renders quick check out and self scan useless. The deli is the worst I've ever experienced. Rude and slow sums it up nicely. I can put in an order at the deli kiosks, do my shopping and still not have my order done. That's freaking annoying since I've noticed that the deli prices are higher than other stores in the area. If I'm paying for convenience, I want convenience. Rarely are there baggers at the cash registers and the help seems to have two speeds for check out: slow and slower. Just like everything else in this stereotypical suburban soccer mom town, I'm done with this store. I miss my big city food shopping. read more

Something really changed in the last 2 years, I blame management. I avoid this location like the plague. I hate how they have organizations panhandling for money every day. And not the typical sit and wait for people to come to you, no, you are accosted every time you come here to shop- VERY annoying. The produce department blows, I can never find fresh items. They are always out of stock on all of their grocery items on the weekend. Thank GOD Big Y opened where the shit-hole of a Shop Rite used to be in Meriden on rte 5, now I never have to ever come here again. read more

The employees here are SO RUDE. I legit got yelled at for putting my cart away back inside by the employee on cart duty.... I only come to this store for specialty products that aren't typically stocked at Walmart. Stop & Shop is terribly over priced- save yourself the money and the awkward situation of getting yelled at by employees and just go to Walmart 5 mins away. read more

This place is in a good location, its safe, with nice people for staff. I like most stores in Wallingford because you know you are safe and dealing with nice people. This is definitely one of the better stop and shops in CT. Isles are neat and organized. Staff is friendly and helpful. Parking lot is huge, but always packed because it is the place to be for groceries in the area. Gas station is always packed, but I never wait more than 10 minutes to fill up. Easy to get to from route 5 (has a light), and there is a back entrance as well. It does get fairly crowded in their, but I always find a way to navigate around the place. Deli food does not make me sick like some deli food in other grocery stores I have been too (Meriden Stop and Shop for one). They have that new scan as you go self check technology where you can bring a scanner gun with you and scan the items as you go, then just connect the scanner to the register during check out and BAM you are ready to pay and go. I live out here in the Waterbury area, but since I take weekly trips to Wallingford, I often wait until I am there to come to this stop and shop over what we have. read more

My friends and I were heading to Vermont for a weekend of skiing to celebrate a 30th birthday. Following some debate on how to cater for the trip, we decided to stop en route to pick up the perishables. After a quick bite to eat (see other review) we headed to the local Stop and Shop. We were pleased to discover it was fairly quiet and split up to divide responsibility. I was allocated meat and was impressed with the selection of different joints - however slightly perplexed by the preponderance of pork. The friend on veg found a good selection of fresh produce which he described as "adequate but not overwhelming." I had allocated alcohol to one friend who was disconcerted not to find a nice bottle of Burgundy (surprising to us Brits not to find wine in a supermarket), but was delighted to find one of his favourite IPAs. When we got to the (self service) checkout, a Good Samaritan fellow shopper let us use her loyalty card which resulted in savings for us and points for her - a great example of mutualism at work! We returned to the car to find the birthday boy delighted by both our selections and savings and set off on the remaining 233 miles to Vermont. read more

I give Stop & Shop in Wallingford, CT the much-coveted five stars! I've been to many supermarkets, including the Stop & Shop in North Haven, and I can tell you this particular store is a cut above the rest! The floor staff are very helpful, courteous and attentive to customer needs. They don't gripe, at least not in the presence of customers. Their baggers don't run off when the elderly person in front of you finishes paying. They will go out of their way to assist you in finding what you're looking for. They always greet you with a smile and a kind word. It's no wonder that this particular location has been running successfully for so many years. You'll almost never find a cart sitting in the middle of the parking lot, waiting for a gust of wind to slam it against the side of your car. The people at the deli interact with you like you're old friends. They have their own gas station on site, which, despite the limited space made available by the town, runs pretty efficiently. Generally, the produce is fresh and well-taken care of. The only flaws I see are the quick disappearance of sales items, especially in the meats, as they can't keep up with the demand and occasionally you'll get a bagger who just doesn't pay attention to what they're doing. Such baggers are usually "impaired" and if you just keep a close eye on them, they'll bag your groceries however you want them to. You can't go wrong here. Stop & Shop not only stands up to the competition, their rivals would do well to emulate them. Many other supermarkets in the area employ people who merely "go through the motions." They greet you, but usually are not very friendly. They'll help you, but you generally have to ask for that help. Even then, while you follow them, you can almost see them rolling their eyes through the backs fo their heads. Fortunately, you'll experience no such disrespect at Wallingford Stop & Shop! read more

I've been going here 7 years and just today, am considering turning in my card. I'm tired of walking in through the hordes of beggars they let camp out by the entrance. There isn't much space between the drive and the door; I find looking busy helps me get through. Once I get into the store, I'm often confronted by people grabbing and fumbling with the "self-scanner" things or whatever they're called. I really think this should be shuffled somewhere else... Or taken out entirely; I pay the same price as the people scanning and bagging their own groceries and I expect service for my dollar. Then I search for fresh produce. I've given up hunting and now look for an employee to point the way. I find this to be easier since all produce seems to randomly move weekly. The deli is hit or miss for me; sometimes I end up with an employee with personality. The prices are hideous... sometimes I'm told to get bologna and I'm shocked that ground up meat scraps is 4.99/lb. I ignore their seafood counter; there's no selection anymore. I pass by much of the meat counter now. No more lamb; industrial pork and beef. Best to find a butcher. Their foreign aisle has shrunk terribly; no grape leaves, sub-par sauerkraut; the aisle seems centered on Scalfani product- which I wouldn't feed to my dog. Not much else to report on in the store- they have been out of decent stocks and broth for a month; I had to get Swanson's - basically colored water today (it's january- you think they'd order "winter items"). Try getting milk or dairy products... Go on! Try! They park their stock-carts in front. (perhaps all the food is stored in back for the apocalypse?) Food certainly isn't stocked on the shelves. Checking out is an adventure. Good luck finding a line with fewer than five people in it. I asked if another line was being opened... Nope- no reason, just no call for help. Stop and Shop looks to me to have given up in Wallingford. I think in a couple of years, it will pull a Shaw's on us and leave. read more

I like Stop and Shop but the deli wait time is ridiculous so it over shadows all the good things. There aren't enough workers. I start off with the produce and deli so my shopping trip starts off with total frustration. I only continue to go there because they have Boars Head. Otherwise I absolutely would not continue to go there. read more

I use to shop here until they rearranged the damn store! The new layout is ridiculous whoever was in charge of that needs to be fired cause that store is now just a cluster. This was my supermarket but in the last couple months it has gone downhill dramatically -the person hiring right now needs to be fired. It seems the workers that have been there a while are great but the newer workers (working the registers and courtesy counter) couldn't be more dumb, lazy and rude. For some reason prices are cheaper here than in Meriden but I think I might go to Meriden anyway. read more

Such a beautiful clean grocery store. I drive all the way from Middletown to shop here bypassing all the other "dirt spots", which consider themselves to be grocery stores. The management here obviously knows what the heck they are doing!!! Keep up the great work! read more
