The store is clean and organized and it was easy to find things. It wasn't too busy when I went, and the ambience was more relaxed. Employees are friendly and the store was welcoming. Stop and Shop has a nice variety of items at normal prices and there were even good sales. The florist department was beautiful (and all springed up with spring/easter balloons and plants when I went), and there was a nice selection of flowers and vase arrangements to choose from. read more

Came back to buy some ingredients, and found the service of this location has gone down significantly. The items here have gone up in prices, and the access to cheaper variations are hardly restocked. As a result, I'm forced to buy the organic and more expensive brands. The service of this location has gone down since the last time I was here. Three times I've been here and asked for help finding stuff, I got barely any help and just pointed in a general direction. They hardly even looked at me when I was talking to them. Many of the staff at the help desk are unfriendly too. One issue with the ambiance is the self checkout screens. Many of the screens barely work as I try to checkout. The store itself has become more dirty and needs to be cleaned more thoroughly. Almost no need to write this review. All the locals know just how awful this Stop and Shop is at meeting the community need. Let me put the poor produce quality (often with in days of going bad) and the lack of a true butcher (most meat is prepackaged and shrink wrapped) and a bake shop that is shamed by the likes of Big Y, aside and talk about my personal reason for boycotting this place. Many on the staff here are pleasant and helpful. However the pun is true: it only takes one bad apple to spoil the barrel and in this case there is more than one bad apple. I will focus on two examples but feel free to leave your alternate choices in the comment section. First there is a couple of very grumpy staff working in the deli. One in particular is well known to management and customers. He is rude, sarcastic and has left a number of customers in tears. Once I tried to intervein and he turned on me. I was thanked but the customer he was chewing out and later one of his coworkers searched me out in the isle to thank me as well. Second is the fact that the store deli policy is on-line orders are to be filled first, followed by kiosk orders while all along, the patient customer standing at the counter is left there with no one to serve them. When this happens staff tells you directly of the policy and there is noting you can do but helplessly wait or walk away. My choice is clear. However, I do want to thank the many kind people who work there. I feel bad they are subjected to such low moral. They do their best to share their kindness in this inexcusable environment. The staff at the pharmacey is especially graceful and attentive to all your needs. They are quick with advice when requested and fill orders often before you finish your shopping. I will continue to use the pharmacy but no longer shop the food isles. read more

Love going to Stop & Shop in Clinton. Smaller store than the others around the area. It's not as busy - it's a clean store - employees are friendly and always helpful. And it has the gas station to use my points for discounted price on gas. read more

One star is too high, it wont let me rate zero stars.I have emailed you before , this store has a culture problem- no one has ever replied. Stop blaming covid, workers are over paid and your shelves are empty. I cant believe the employees complain about their jobs within earshot of customers. The self check lanes you put in after the employees went on strike either dont work or arent turned on. tonight was the final straw - no rotisserie chickens at 550pm, I ask the woman are there any ready ? She looks at me , furious and says your the 4th person to ask me, 10 minutes? I put all my food back, wont spend another dime here. Your exec team should go south to Publix, learn about proper ordering and what customer service is. It's a Stop & Shop pretty much like any other. You can spend half of forever waiting at the deli counter: the staff is very friendly, courteous and professional and works as fast as they can - it's just a busy place. There is a butcher counter in addition to the seafood counter so it makes it easy to get a slice of salmon and a cut of beef if you and your significant other cannot agree on what to have for dinner. The florist is generally around which is great as many do. It seem to have a full time florist and the flower bunches are lovely. I've had mixed success with the plants but I cannot attest to whether that's the quality of the plant or the gardener. My main complaint is i scan everything myself and I have noticed 9 times out of ten here are no plastic bags. So, remember your recycle bags for shopping now! I don't know what else can be left to the shopper - ringing, bagging, bringing in bags - but if there is something this Stop and Shop will figure it out. read more

Wow, well that was just horrible. I went to go redeem some bottles, both plastic and glass. All three plastic machines were either out of service or full, the glass ones weren't working either. There were workers rounding up carts in the parking lot and completely ignoring the bottle room. You could tell it was like that for a while because other patrons had gotten fed up and there was a collection of plastic bottle starting to form on the counter in there. read more

The "remodel" only made this store worse. They got rid of a lot of products I used to buy there, the store organization is terrible, and the employees seem to be totally dispirited by management. The robot and self-check experience add to the dismal grocery shopping experience. And the maskless staff screaming across the produce is another issue...Used to be my primary grocery, but no more. read more

I just read the last review for this store and I had to jump in. I have been shopping here for about 3 years now, and I have to concur with most of the last review. I'm now a little worried about the seafood section. I buy a lot of my seafood here, but don't have the best sense of smell, and my wife can't stand the smell of seafood anyway. Something to think about. My big complaint would be that this is the most understaffed store I have ever seen. If I drive buy and the lot is full, I'll drive to the next town to go food shopping...that's how bad it is here. read more

First off, can I note how amusing it is that Yelp now pushes you to write positive reviews (even with lousy establishments), likely so businesses continue to support Yelp and it makes more profit for itself? I've lived all over the country and this is the worst supermarket I've ever shopped at. It is CONSISTENTLY out of the most popular items. Isn't this computerized now? There are always long check out lines. Don't you know your busy times by computer data? When you finally get to the register, the employee almost always complains about their job. This NEVER happens at their competitors. Where I will be shopping from now on. PS: Every aisle reorganization you've done over the last 10 years has only made things worse. What a shame. Stop & Shop corporate mgmt has added an annoying robot that constantly beeps, blocks your cart, and makes the shopping experience a nightmare. Over the last 2 yrs they have cut staff, added too many do it yourself registers, very few check out lanes staffed. (I don't care to scan a cart of items myself). So many people are complaining about this - wish they would be able to keep qualified staff & managers but corporate doesn't seem to care. read more

I love this super Market. The employees don't get in your way, everything is always fresh unlike the stop and shop in Clinton and the shop rite. The best oranic and vegan sections that are always stocked. And the floor manager (the big guy) very helpful and charming. That guy deserves a raise. Keep up the good work madison stop and shop. Really bad grocery store. They have some of the rudest people working here, particularly the younger girls who are bagging. If you want to shop at stop and shop I recommend the one in Clinton, its maybe 8 minutes away from this one. Must better service. I did not begin appreciating this store until I left CT to live in NYC where the food is expensive and the selection of food not nearly as broad. I've been shopping here for about 20 years and have never been overly impressed but always have the essentials and convenient. Stopped by here last Saturday to a few items at noon. Started at the deli section and made my way to the far end of the produce section to use the restroom. Never have seen or smelled I worse public restroom ANYWHERE. Completely unsanitary and disgusting. If they can't maintain acrestroom, how clean will it be at the butcher or the behind the deli section. Will never set foot in this store again. YUK. read more

I've lived in Madison and shopped at Stop & Shop at least once a week for the past eleven years. Overall, the store is great. Produce, meats, organic choices, staff, prices -- all are better than what I've experienced at other area stores. However, one department at this Stop & Shop has declined so much in quality that I refuse to buy from it: the seafood department. Several months ago, I stopped buying fish here. Once I bought some cod and had to return it. I started to prepare it for dinner and couldn't help but notice that it had a very strong, very bad odor. Customer service was great about refunding my money, but after that incident I started to notice that the quality of the fish became inconsistent. Sometimes the fish would have a bad aftertaste, like ammonia. My kids, who normally love fish, wouldn't eat it (and I could hardly blame them). After two such incidents, I simply stopped buying fish here. The other day, I took a chance on some shrimp from the seafood department. This turned out to be a bad idea. When I started to peel the shrimp for dinner, it smelled horrible. It literally stunk up the entire kitchen. It felt stickier than usual, too -- there was no way I could feed it to my family. Again, the store was great about issuing a refund, but the hassle of coming up with something else for dinner at the last minute or running back and forth to replace spoiled seafood is ridiculous. I don't know why Stop & Shop's seafood has gone from acceptable to disgusting, but I do know I won't risk a purchase here again. I don't expect them to have the same quality as a more expensive local seafood market, but it should at least be edible. So, if you need anything other than seafood and would like to visit a clean, friendly, well-stocked store with reasonable prices, this is your place. For seafood, try another store or, even better, a local fresh fish market. read more

Long lines. Less than 20% of the lanes are open. Self check out lanes are never fully functioning (including the new ones they put in). Even if you think you are there during "off peak" times you will find yourself waiting in an unnecessary line. Its been like this for years. read more

I feel like living in Madison has its blessings and its curses. Blessings are the natural beauty of the town whether it be beaches, parks or downtown area. The curses are arguably the worst supermarkets this side of Connecticut. Both Stop & Shop and Roberts get the complete and enthusiast thumbs down for pricing, service and management. Since this review is for Stop & Shop I will start with the meat and seafood selections which are laughably limited and lacking in quality. Amount of selections far superior at Big Y and Shoprite. The bakery is among the worst on the Shoreline. Big Y wins award for best bakery. Frozen food section again offers limited variety. Also limited at Big Y... little larger at Shoprite. The customer service is dreadful especially when waiting to check out. You have two options, choose from the one or two registers that are open with 3-5 customers waiting at each or go to the self checkout where it stops working so many times that it is a wash choosing between the 15 minute wait or the self service checkout. Where is the manager? Usually there watching! This is pathetic management and dread coming to this place. Have been going to Big Y lately where the pricing is not the best but management is far superior. Cannot recall ever seeing less than 4 or 5 registers open at Big Y and as soon as the lines get a little longer the manager comes and opens up more registers - wow, common sense! Also the selection is a little better at Big Y. I would give Stop & Shop no stars if that was an option. read more

this place is actually the worst supermarket I've ever been to. they are way understaffed and they only have one register open (sometimes they'll have an express open) the rest are all self checkout which are either always out of order or overpopulated by people who don't know how to work them and aren't getting any help from employees. the cashier that checked me out today looked and sounded so dead inside and was really rude to the customers in front of me. their workers look sloppy and unprofessional they wear basic store-emblem shirts but pair them with baggy sweats or saggy jeans and hoodies its unlike any store I've ever seen. there is no character to the store at all its just a grey abyss. and might I add the store colors are yellow and purple and they're seen in multiple spots around the store but yet their registers are green and red like hello pick a color and stick with it. they also have a weird robot thing lurking around that I almost walked right into its actually the most depressing place. I'd give it a .5/10 being generous. read more

If you ever require flowers, this is the place to go! Pam,the florist is sensational, accomplished and understands design. I have had her do numerous centerpieces as well as simple vases and everytime they are exquisite. This summer I chose her to do the flowers for my daughters wedding and they set the stage for a beautiful event starting with the balloons for the bus, the flowers at the ceremony, the bridal bouquet and finally the flowers at the reception! All done with perfection and no hassle....and the cost was so very reasonable. Pam is THE BEST! read more

I have seen this store continually getting worse over the past few years,. As several other reviewers have stated, the seafood department is completely disgusting. Any fish that smells is not fresh fish! When I've complained to the manager about the smell I was told that the reason for the odor is that this store is where all the sushi for the other Stop and Shop stores in the area is prepared!! As if this makes one feel better about purchasing fish there???? In addition, the front entrance is always filthy. There is normally bits of paper, mud, on the grey/black carpeting where the grocery carts are located. It looks as if it has never been vacuumed. That lack of cleanliness carries through to the rest of the market, where the floors always look as if they could stand a good mopping, and the restrooms are always in need of a good cleaning. Trying to make your way down any of the isles is often a challenge, as they are often blocked with employees attempting to re-stock the shelves and a variety of boxes stacked just where you are attempting to locate an item. It is a challenge to figure out when the best time to shop there might be. If one goes there early in the morning just to pick up a few things, it can take you forever to get out because there are only 2 or 3 checkout lanes open and there are too many empty bins in the produce department. In an attempt to try making improvements in this Stop and Shop, I sent a list of other disgruntled customers to the manager as well as to the head office--all of which have been ignored. No one seems to care if many would rather take the extra time to drive to the Big Y in Guilford or the other Stop and Shop in Clinton to do their shopping!!! read more
