We had a party last week and had catering and a cake provided by the Edgartown Stop & Shop. The service was excellent. Staff were courteous and knowledgeable. They were flexible as our timing changed. The food was excellent including a roll-up platter, picnic platter and a finger roll platter. Everything was delicious (but a bit salty). The cake provided by the Bakery was exactly what we ordered, decorated perfectly and delicious. I would gladly cater another event with food from the store. read more

The bakery went above any beyond for my daughters birthday! We called in a custom cake a few days prior to our arrival. Due to Covid we had minimal expectations since not all stores, businesses etc are 100% back up and running full service. I asked for a chocolate cake, white icing and told them my 4 year old likes rainbow and unicorns, so whatever they could do. She was floored at what a beautiful cake she got, and we were all amazed. Thank you to the bakery dept for doing your best for her! I should also mention the gentleman we spoke to when we called was very kind and patient on the phone. Nice bakery and seafood dept. Not as big as some other stop and shops but it certainly has everything you need and more to stock your fridge while on vacation here in MV. The fish could be fresher yes but they have good deals on lobsters and other seafood without going across the street to the edgartown fish market and paying 25$ a pound for anything. I found the fruits and veggies to be of good quality as well as the cold cut counter quite adequate too. read more

This is a very decent and chaotic supermarket. They have all the basic items you would need to stock your refrigerator. The store is relatively organized but if you are here in season, expect long lines and chaos. The fruit is reasonably fresh and the selection is relatively broad. The Edgartown Stop & Shop is much easier to navigate than the one in Vineyard Haven. Yes it can get crowded but like any other supermarket, you can get your staples and when it's time to check out, then is the time you decide if you can deal with the line or leave. The line moves rather quickly during the early morning hours and the crowd is at minimum (this is even during the week the president was on island). The prices on the island is always higher, so if you can, bring your groceries along with you. Some items are moderately priced, however, I would compare their prices to W.F. This Stop & Shop has a large selection of organic foods, compared to any other Stop & Shop I've ever seen. read more

It provides what you need, for sure. After your day of sunning and surf, you'll need a cardohydrate or two. Of course, that's if you do not have an aversion to tight spaces or crowds, in which case you should shop in the wee hours, or even better, in November. Typically, we do a lot of shopping off island because some items are chaeaper on the main land. That said, this Stop and Shop follows the same or similar sale trends. Therefore, if you need some fruit and don't want to drop a bundle, shop the sale items, as you would at home, but don't expect your favorite brand of cookie or cracker to be similarly priced. I am not as much of a fan of buying meat or fish here. I am sure it is fine, but if you have specific needs for how your meat is purveyed and handled, have a conversation with the butcher or bring your own. The chicken jsut seems a little less pink than my organic breasts from Costco back home. That's when I think to my alter ego - the Jewish mother - "Don't be such a big shot. Would it kill you to eat a vegetable?" Tip: When checking out, if you do not have your own Stop and Shop saving card, ask the cashier to ring on his or hers. As a vacationer, definitely bring your own stuff to the island. But sometimes you just need to buy a few things and there aren't too many options on the island. Stop & Shop has the staples you need. Of course you should expect higher prices than on the mainland, but Stop & Shop has the staples you need. The only downside is the traffic since it is on the main road between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs. Prepare for horrendous traffic right when the ferry boat disembarks. read more

Everything is great; even during the Summer rush! We do all of our shopping here, even during peak season of the Summer. Some of the islanders could use a class is etiquette, but the store itself is great. I do think they could use a remodel, however. Seeing all the traffic they do receive during the Summer season, they could use an expansion of 2-4 more aisles. It is hot and cold with the seasonal staff, though. Some are very friendly and willing to help out any way they can, while others won't even look you in the eye and could care less about your groceries (I've had broken eggs before). read more

I had a terrible experience at this location today. I was trying to return cans and bottles. After being able to return 13 cans, the machine started beeping and said "bin full, call staff". I was waiting in the customer service line when out of the back come this blonde haired, short, disheveled looking lady. She was seemingly management because of her different colored shirt. I could not see a name tag anywhere. The young cashier asked her (in seeming annoyance) "what is that noise?" I said, " the bottle machine is full". The lady who had come out the back yelled nastily at me, "we don't take beer cans!" (I beg to differ because it had taken thirteen beer cans before it was full.) I said "well, I have other bottles and cans that are not beer". She said "I don't want you to put any more cans in there. There might be a bottle return at the liquor store across the street. I'm not sure, but you can't use this one!" This is the conversation we had verbatim. Now, I had only been returning these cans because of my concern for the environment. I could care less for the deposit. I work in customer service myself, and was astounded by how I was treated by this shrew. I was spoken to as if I were an inconvenient piece of garbage. If she is considered management of the customer service counter, then I would think she would have been respectful and courteous to me regarding the machine's issues. Instead she was condescending, rude, and dismissive. I guess I will not try to help the planet by recycling at this stop and shop location again. read more

This is not a well run supermarket. I was having a typical supermarket experience and then I had a cashier with a crappy attitude. She thought basically throwing and jerking my items as she checked them would somehow be okay. Three of the items were soda which I am sure as soon as I open them will burst in my face... Today I went here to get provisions for the rest of our trip in the Vineyard. I found all my items easily, but when I went to the register, a pretty big problem occured. I had purchased two bags of chips, deoderent, hot dog rolls, cereal, and bread. After all the items were scanned, the total came out to over $50! I was quite shocked! The man behind me in line mentioned to the cashier that the total seemed too high. I agreed as well as well as the cashier. He called a manager over to check out the issue. She found that the previous transaction had been added into my total. This meant that the person in front of me had not paid for thier items. The situation was resolved and my total was changed to $19.33. After thinking about this problem, I realized that I may have been a target of a scam that failed. The person in front of me may have planned this with the cashier to have them not pay for thier items and add them to my bill. If I had paid the $50, I would be covering the person's items and the register would show that the person had paid for the items, even though they didnt. This was appalling to me and I wanted to be able to voice this on Yelp. *Please note that the idea of a possible scam is pure speculation read more

I thank god for stop and shop. Cronigs is nice and all but I'm not rich. It's a chain but they have a pretty good selection of organic and health foods and some pretty decent cheeses. The prepared foods aren't bad. It's a small stop and shop so the selection isn't huge but it's pretty big by vineyard standard and I was amazed to see its open until midnight. My biggest complaints are the ice cream freezer sucks, it's always half frozen and the cashiers, while usually friendly are less then capable. Be sure to watch the like a hawk whilst they ring you up or run the risk of being over charged. Hopefully one day soon they'll have self check out and a working freezer and all will be right with the world read more

Went in for 2 things. Milk rang up at price different than what was on bottle. When I asked, the cashier, who was very polite, called over the woman manager who's first words to me were" so, looks like you know how to scan the system". She was incredibly rude and obnoxious. We've been visiting MV every summer for 34 years and have watched it grow and change. Stop & Shop has been a constant presence during that time. They've grown and expanded their inventory. Their produce aisle is consistently excellent--items are always fresh and well stocked. On a recent Saturday, I was surprised that I couldn't find any cauliflower. I asked a young worker who was re-stocking items nearby if he knew where the cauliflower was. He told me where to look but there was nothing but empty shelf space. I called over and told him there was no cauliflower left and I moved on to the next aisle. Five minutes later, the produce worker had found me, on a different aisle and he was holding a large box of fresh cauliflower heads! The young worker's name is Steven. He went above and beyond what most workers would do to be sure I had what I wanted. I've been shopping for many years and I can't remember ever experiencing service like that. Definitely the worst Stop and Shop that I have ever been to. It is small, but that is hardly dispositive. It was also dirty, poorly organized and horrifically overpriced. I would highly recommend bringing as much as possible to the island if you are visiting and checking out a meat/seafood shop and farm for all of your produce/meat needs. It does get crowded, but seems to move along. If vacationing; know pricing is most likely slightly higher than home, BUT not as high as some of the other places (including farm stands) on the island, I think they are the best bag for your buck if you aren't bringing your own groceries. read more

Poor customer service, long wait times, bad management in general. Tried to get a prescription filled for a sick child. They didn't have the all the medication so they gave me two days worth and told me to come back to continue the therapy on day 3. Just went back and they don't expect their order to arrive until later in the day. Missing a dose of this therapy is not good. No apology just a snide comment. Go to any other pharmacy if you need to get a prescription filled. read more
