Stop & Shop came in clutch for me on a recent trip to the Dobbs Ferry area. I was in need of very specific items. I was completely unfamiliar with the area, and was just crossing my fingers that Stop & Shop had what I needed. Oh, and I was in a hurry, too. Like, I'm already late kind of hurry. Thank goodness for the checker working the self checkout area. I had to come into the store twice and was in such a hurry that both times I just went straight to him to see if he could direct me to where I could find what I was looking for (1st time: ice. 2nd time: disposable gloves). He helped me both times and got me in and out in a blink. The store itself has cramped aisles but tons of stock, so a bit of a give and take there. The parking lot is a little tricky to get into but once I figured it out, I was able to find parking easily. Stop & Shop was there with what I needed when I needed it and for that, so appreciative! Ignore the fact that there's a Stop & Shop about 4 minutes away from me. And that particular Stop & Shop by me ALSO carries fried chicken. Well, this Stop & Shop in Dobbs Ferry isn't a total hop and skip- but it is hubs' favorite- ONLY for their 8 piece fried chicken variety pack. Hubs compared and contrasted between Stop & Shop's fried chicken closer to us with this one. To hubs' eyes and palate, this location won. Let's just rule out the obnoxious people trying to park in the narrow parking lot and the F bombs that are spewed out of some new Dobb Ferryans- maybe even Yonkerians coming to the area. Aside from the fantastic fried chicken hubs loves, aisles are well maintained. But the staff here- are the most pleasant and willing to help with a smile. read more

The store appears to be clean. Plenty of parking spaces in a huge parking lot. There is not a HUGE selection of goods as you would find at say a Trader Joe's. But it's sufficient. The prepared food is freshly prepared and was delicious. I had purchased the rotisserie chicken salad and it was so tasty. I also appreciated the selection of of artisanal breads, in particular, the sourdough bread. Overall, a decent place to shop. Service was okay. Not friendly but adequate. Ohhh......and did I mention, the whole chicken rotisserie was a standout from ShopRite's & Costco's rotisseries!!!!! So fresh and seasoned very well! read more

i used stop and Shop instacart service. Emily made a mistake and deliver the bags to the wrong house. Two minutes later, I text to tell the person the bags were delivered to the wrong house. I ask the person are you going to get the bag and bring them to the right address. Sadly, There was no answer back. So I called the 800 number and got a complete refund and tip. I used the service for while. I will no longer use the service. Care a little people. Sad... read more

This is always my last resort. The cashiers straight up refused to bag your groceries. I guess we're expected to do that ourselves now? I really don't care for this. If I wanted to bag my own groceries, I would use the self checkout. Also, watch the prices when you get checked out. I've had stuff that was on sale come up at a higher price of the register. A manager told me that sometimes they don't input the prices until the next day, even though they've already put up the sale signs. Really shady stuff. Surprisingly I am not happy with Stop and Shop lately. Online is different than in store I know, but I've had some issues with both. Since delivery switched to Instacart there are mistakes with billing. I was charged $9.95 for months when it should have been $6.95 (order over $100). I finally caught this so had to go back months with customer service to correct. Also the online system has glitches lately and I am not sure why. I have to call customer service when I am unable to do it online myself. Sometimes if it says buy 2 get one free, I don't get the third item. They first blamed me for not asking for three items in total. So the next time I did and the same mistake happened. The food once was left in my lobby not at my door. I just don't trust the online delivery system anymore so decided to buy my own food in store. I saw a receipt in store saying I had 4 GO points a few days ago but it wasn't giving me the rewards. Thought it wasn't being honored so went to the in store customer service desk. Manager guy said I have to call customer service 800 number for anything regarding rewards. I didn't because I was tired of calling them but should have. Just today I went to the desk again and spoke with Awais (sp?). I just asked if he could check out my GO points. He did and it seemed like everything was in order. He saw my points accrued etc. but I didn't understand why I wasn't getting my reward dollars still. I didn't have that other receipt with me so I see why he couldn't understand the issue. But he said to me right before I left that it was really nice talking with me and meeting me. Sounds really lovely right? But I know he was being condescending since this wasn't a social visit to the desk. I am not an idiot. I get it sounded like I was making the whole thing up but I really thought there was again an issue with the online system. Turns out after looking at that receipt that 4 GO points was not the dollars coming to me but the points accrued. I was mistaken but due to issues in the recent past thought again there was a mistake. Long short, I guess I know not to go to this service desk anymore with questions unless I am certain I have an issue. Normally though, the ladies at the desk are helpful when honoring a mistake with a price on a sign that is different at checkout. read more

The staff does not care about anything especially you. If it is in a box or a can you are probably okay. Do not buy their prepared food, meat or fish products. The people who work there don't give a fig about the food or safety and that can make you sick. Buy bulky necessities which are factory packaged and get out as fast as you can. read more

Great place for Seniors to get threatened! 14 minutes ago-Edit Although I have shopped here for years, I had an UNBELIEVABLE moment tonight. I want to speak to the manager as I plan to file legal action. I was physically threatened by one of your employees in the store! He put up his fists to fight me! He was about 30, I am 62 and handicapped. I was SHOCKED and legal measures are already clicking. I need to contact that manager IMMEDIATELY and letters are already being sent to corporate. I was in dreadful fear of being punched IN THE STORE! I am sure there are witnesses, I have one, so if you don't have video it won't matter, but if you do, well game over. How can you employ a person who physically threatens your customers and verbally abuses them and makes fun of them. THIS IS NOT THE END OF THIS! Follow up...I went there to see the manager, but he was busy so I did get his name and email. But my lawyer says Stop and Shop Corporate will handle this from here with my lawyers. The guy who "put up his dukes" inside the store of course denies it. It will be on store camera or mine. He's done as this will also go to the Dobbs Ferry police. This is literally the WORST grocery store EVER! No one around to help, customer service desk is a waste of time, as they have no answers, and the deli people are SUPER disgruntled and rude.. How can you never have any rotisserie anything, and all the chicken anything is bare? What do you do all day... THE WORST. Typical weekend: 2 cashiers on duty, long lines, 2 helpers, no manager, self- checkout machines making mistakes right and left, especially when something's on sale--they mysteriously don't know the sale prices. You have to be very vigilant! Today, one of the 2 helpers was a trainee who didn't know how to do anything, and a man who's offended many women with his arrogant sexist attitude. The store pushes its proprietary brand of food by overpricing name brands, even resorting to not stocking or re-stocking them, and hiding them in inconspicuous places in a display so you'd never know they're there. As for the food: nearly every type of fruit has something wrong with it: rotten spots inside that you can't see from the outside, cut-up fruit that has started to ferment, mangoes that go from hard and green to rotten inside, moldy berries hidden underneath the good ones in the package, dented and scarred melons, frost-bitten grapes... Milk? I bought skim milk that went sour 2 weeks BEFORE its sell-by date. Pickles? A shelf full of expired jars. Canned black olives? Green slime inside the can. I'm done with this place. I'd rather drive to the next town and pay more at DeCicco's. I've never had a problem with anything I've bought there. read more

Stop & Shop was recently renovated, and it looks great! Very clean, large selection of foods, mini-carts available, abundant amount of express check-out registers and virtually empty in the mornings. Another plus is that S&S not as expensive as it used to be. I was able to buy a week's worth of groceries for under $60. My only complaint is the lack of ethnic products (ie Goya foods and such). Otherwise, I like it way better than the A&P in Hastings. read more

This well-located supermarket finally got an upgrade, and it has that new, clean look that is so different from the old version. In the center of Dobbs Ferry, it is an easy walk from apartments in downtown and a key ingredient for why 10% of Dobbs residents don't own a car. So if you're looking to transfer your city life to a suburban downtown, you can do it here. After coming off the train, walk over (or get off Dobbs' free shuttle bus) and get food to cook for dinner. And now they have a really solid bike rack, although wish they had put it under a roof. Still wish they had better brands like those found at the much smaller, yet seemingly better stocked, DeCicco's in downtown Ardsley. Why no Organic Valley milk? read more

The store itself is fine, good selection and fair enough prices. But the manger, Steve, is one of the rudest people I've ever come in contact with. He gives off a "tougher than anyone else in the store" attitude which does not translate well to customers needing assistance. Every other employee is pleasant and more than willing to help, but dealing with Steve on two different occasions has turned me off completely to the store. Pretty much the only large supermarket in the area, but the traffic on Broadway is so congested. It's awful traveling through the area on a Saturday. However, the stores large size translates to a large selection and competitive prices. The sale items are always great deals. It does take awhile to check out as there are very few lanes open. The self-checkout is good for small purchases or if you are shopping with someone else. The customer service is usually sufficient. Expired items on shelves, rude people at customer service, no one seems to know where items are if you ask. Dairy is left out In boxes instead of being shelved and goes bad the next day if you decide to take the risk and buy it. Don't get me started on the produce, the bags of salad are actually brown, probably also because they were laying around in boxes waiting to be shelved. This stop & shop is ridiculous. I go there to purchase items that are on sale and half the time when they ring up the item it ends up not ringing up on sale and I realize when I go home and analyze my receipt. Now I have to analyze my receipt before I leave to save the trip back to stop & shop. Also, the people who work there are not intelligent. This is the second time I've purchased cheese from the deli that is on sale and they give me non sale cheese so I end up paying full price. It's too much of an inconvenience to keep going back to the supermarket more than one a week for their stupidity. If I purchase something on sale it should always ring up on sale. I feel like they keep scamming me. Also, if I ask for land o lakes American cheese, I should not end up with boards head low sodium low fat cheese. read more

2/27/20: I really can't believe there are negative reviews for this DF S&S. We've been coming here since 2003, and find its prices at check out always jive with prices beneath the item. They take back items w/o question. Produce is fair to good. Parking spaces available 95% of time. It's clean, reasonable, and for us, mighty convenient instead of wasting gas and carbon driving to other stores. read more

Ok....this Stop and Shop is SLIGHTLY better than the one in Tarrytown. A little larger, better selection, cashiers are a little more awake. Prices are ok, especially on the produce (cheaper than an A&P). The only thing I don't get is why there are always large groups of teenagers just hanging out in there. As far as large-scale grocery stores, this one sort of has a monopoly on the local market, so it may affect the quality of service and goods provided. Don't expect a bunch of speciality items as it is not a huge superstore. From past reviews I have a feeling this store was a little bit of a dump, but I think management has done a lot to address complaints in the past. I'd say if things were as bad as some of the pics I saw from two years ago, directly launch a complaint with customer service. That's when the magic (hopefully) happens! This store gets two stars bc I love the stop and shop on 119 in tarrytown. But I am shocked and disappointed at this store. It has the smallest selection of pretty much everything I am looking for. I never can get the ice cream I want. I constantly become disappointed and wonder why I didn't make the longer trip to shop rite or super stop and shop. I wouldn't even go here if j just needed a bottle of water. Shame on you stop and shop. Def need to renovate!
