I needed some snacks to bring to a local holiday fiesta and stopped by ole reliable.. Stop & Shop. To be frank, I was looking for on the cheap but also not too cheap, if you know what I mean. I found just what I was looking for in the form of a salami and pepperoni party tray. With two rows of crackers, cheese and meats for only $11, it was perfect. So perfect in fact that I bought two. I also splurged for two boxes of mini Christmas cupcakes, for only $6 each and 2 packs of pringles on a 2 for $4 deal. For about $36, I walked into that holiday gathering feeling confident that it looked like I spent much more than I did. And for that, I'm grateful. Thanks Stop & Shop! read more

I ran into the Stop & Shop in Baldwin to pick up a few items. The produce section is right at the front entrance so I headed to the strawberries first. I was IMMEDIATELY FLOORED at what I saw. Every single carton of strawberries was filled with severely molded strawberries. White fuzz visibly growing and spreading across the berries. Carton after carton after carton. MOLD. I looked up to see if there was an employee in the department so I could bring this to their attention. I saw a produce employee walking down the isle, passing the other section of berries. I got his attention and showed him the disgusting fruit. He proceeded to explain to me that the other produce employees were at fault and went to the back to bring out fresher strawberries. As he was gone, I decided to check out the other section of strawberries. This section had quite a few more cartons and YET AGAIN...all the cartons had white and green fuzzy mold growing amongst the strawberries. Again, I brought these to his attention and needless to say, I no longer wanted any strawberries. I went to the grapes instead. Yes, as I approached the cartons of grapes...I saw flies. My heart sank as I looked at the cartons of grapes. They looked "murkey". I couldn't believe it. There was even MORE mold on the grapes!!!! I took several pictures and got sick to my stomach. HOW COULD A HIGH TRAFFIC SUPERMARKET ALLOW THIS ON THE SALES FLOOR?! $7.99 for grapes in this economy and they're covered with MOLD that can definitely make someone extremely ILL. My heart breaks for the elderly and people with poor vision that shopped at Stop & Shop in Baldwin and purchased any of these produce items. This is completely unacceptable and disgraceful! I did bring this to the attention of the store manager. He seemed thankful and headed to the produce department to address it. This is why I have 2 stars and not 1. He said that the produce employees are supposed to "rotate the fruit". I did not look at any more produce so I don't know what else was molded and expired but I wanted to share this with anyone looking to purchase produce from Stop & Shop in Baldwin...INSPECT YOUR PRODUCE because they obviously don't! UPDATE: I received a call back from Eileen, the Cust. Service Manager. She was very kind and understanding of the importance of having fresh produce on the sales floor. Why is this store even open? The shelves are ALWAYS bare, their produce is even more bare and gross. It's dirty and sad looking. Always feel ashamed that this store is in my neighborhood. They have no bags, no bags? No paper bags ok... but also no bags to buy? Literally, just no bags at all lol. I don't like to leave a negative comment but I have shopped here enough where I believe something needs to be said - enough us enough. I purchased some Supreme cheese tonight and grabbed the second to the last item in the refrigerated specialty cheese section, thinking that would be a good enough "Best By: " date. I brought the cheese home and started to take a few bites, thinking it tasted a little rotten. I smelled the cheese and looked at it and saw there was some mild growing on top of the waxy area. I checked the expiration date and saw that the date was 9/29/22 - 2 days from now. I immediately went back to the store at 8:45pm and straight to Customer Service, only to be welcomed with CLOSED signs. I asked an employee if there was someone who could help me with my return and was told, "well you can come back tomorrow.. I'm pretty sure they are closed for the night" I don't understand how Customer service is closed before 9pm...when the store is open until 11pm.. Beware of perishables you purchase here... Go-backs that have been out may have been put back on shelves, perishables included. Check expiration dates!! read more

I have been shopping there since it was Waldbaums! Waldbaums was always well stocked, every time I shop there they are always out of items I am looking for, their revamp of the store just created more confusion when shopping! They are always out of their advertised sales and require a rain check. Many of the items on the shelves are expired and when you ask the employees where items are located they do not know most of the time. They have removed all of the seating areas in the Starbucks area so if you want to sit down and have a coffee or something to eat you cannot any longer! They are not customer friendly!!! read more

I have tried to pick up food from Baldwin place s&s. And it is the worst. Don't do it!!! They are undermanned and the ability to have the food ready in the specified window is zero. Go somewhere else that has it figured out and don't trust what they say re she it is ready. read more

I only come to stop and shop, faithfully, for a handful of items that I know will be on sale. I like to shop for my children and the one or two items that I like to get are the box and pouch juices. They usually have a 2 for 1 deal which is pretty good. I came to stop and shop this time around for the Smart popcorn. They had a sale in November that was $1.88 each if you bought 2. I've been buying it almost everyday during the sale because my girls and I like them so much. While they don't seem to have much of a sale on milk, they did have them on the Raisin Brand cereal. When I decide to shop here, the place is relatively clean and surprisingly not that busy and they seem to have an assortment of different goods that caters to people of all diet backgrounds. During the times that I go, the checkout line is very short and moves very quickly, even though there's not that many registers open. Out of 9, there will probably be 2-3 open at a time. I sometimes have an issue with the self checkout line, so if I can skip it all together I do. I mean, I'm not getting paid to work there, but I get it, it's "convenient " for the customer...I guess. I like the good old fashioned face to face with an actual person rather than a computer animated talking machine, which can annoy me and times and make me want to walk out and forget about the items all together. I gave it 4 stars because I do feel that more items could go on sale every now and then, but overall I've been pleased with what I've experienced so far. read more

I'm shocked to see this Stop and Shop location has such a low rating! This is my go to for groceries! I really like that they have a staff member ask if we would like the cart handle disinfected. The service here is great. Whenever I ask for the location of an item I am informed with a smile and sometimes even walked to that item! On my last visit there was a woman who forgot to wear a mask, an associate promptly directed her to customer service where a mask would be provided. As per groceries they almost always have what I need and then some. As a vegetarian I am happy to inform others they have a WIDE variety of meatless alternatives and options! The only reason that this location isn't 5 stars is I'd say about 50-60% of the time produce or bread is near the expiration date. read more

I've been going to this location long before it was stop & shop, when it was walbaums. Let me tell you there's a huge difference in the store now. I constantly find myself finding things that are expired or past the best buy date in this store. Twice I have accidentally bought Pepsi 2 liter soda bottles that has expired months prior. After that, I bought 2 redbulls, also expired. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but after purchasing expired yogurt I am completely over this place. I am not one to leave a negative comment, yet I feel strongly enough so to voice my opinion after for some unknown reason the rather newer store manager (one of) literally has made me feel extremely uncomfortable in a store I frequent 3 times a week, it's located 3 blocks from my home. I know employees by name I've shopped there for so long, as well as they go out of there way providing awesome customer assistance, Sine manager MAX (who I thought was a fill in, never seeing him prior) first began there is when I encountered my first audit when using the self checkout as usual. His only requirement was to adjust the sale price on a item, yet proceeds to count #of items on screen then taking out everything I had scanned as well bagged to ensure all were rung up, not somuchas caring when putting items back in bags in complete disarray, giving off an unwarranted snide attitude, one that basic 101 management knowledge nothing less than a smile to customers in any situation, making himself clearly obvious he thought I did not scan all items. Was I appalled absolutely I would not steal so much as a piece of gum... skip to trips after ONLY WHEN HE IS WORKING DOES THUS GO ON, wherever I may be shopping I've happened to glance up making eye contact as he watches me shop from one end of the store to the other, to be audited an additional 2 more times, making it 3Xs not only is embarrassing to me, he's so rude conducts himself unprofessional creating a uncomfortable feeling as well as he's consuming my time while doing this. My next action is contacting corporate to formally complain, I recently retired from a long career in corporate management knowing the overall drill, which individuals such as Hume do not know more so the Pat 6 years I transferred positions for the the same company when offered a very profitable promotion managing store security, visiting 10 locations ensuring all was correctly being confirmed to only after completing time required literally working within security observing and comprehending shop lifters. To say the least, I would have never caught anyone, Never mind my recovery stats proved I knew the job well by outright breathing down shoppers throats. It's Unacceptable work ethics as well. This store chain is terrible...I have visited several and have found them all to- Choose Saturday to stock the shelves?? On the busiest shopping day of all!!?? It's difficult enough to get through the aisles with S&S personal shoppers packing their carts in the aisle. Certain areas are terrible in all 3 stores I went to- produce....what the heck, most of it looks ready to be thrown out. No attention paid to appearance. Ice cream freezers all look sparse and not many options for what is there. Cleaning supplies, the shelves are mostly empty?? I find the stores poorly managed....Poor product choices and no concern for making the stores feel or look like you want to shop there...Not many options in my area so I'm stuck...but I guess they know that. read more

I went to Stop and Shop at 905 Atlantic Ave Baldwin, NY 11510 yesterday 1/17/18 and smelled a horrible sewer smell as soon as I walked in by produce . It became unbearable as I walked through the Natural food isle. So I'm looking around and wondering why is the store open for business !!!! My wife later told me this store stunk last week. Until recently, this was a Waldbaum's. Since becoming a Stop & Shop, there have been some disturbing personnel issues, nicely encapsulated by my most recent (and final) experience there. I came in to buy a coffee at the Starbucks in the store. In line was an employee, who was sick as a dog--coughing, snorting, moaning. He was telling his coworker that he had to come in because he didn't have any sick days, but that he'd been sweating and shivering since he came in. This person works at a supermarket; he is handling food destined for everyone in the community. The sole person who was manning the Starbucks had clearly never received barista training. She was wearing a Stop & Shop name tag, not a Starbucks name tag. She looked so overwhelmed, and was taking 3-4 minutes per drink. She used hot water for an iced drink, and she did it in a plastic cup, which is a leaching hazard. I would have asked her to make it again, but I didn't have another 4 minutes and I wanted to get away from the sick employee. read more

Stop & Shop Baldwin discriminates against those with disabilities & does not allow those with disabilities INSIDE the store. I have been shopping at Stop & Shop Baldwin since my local Freeport Stop & Shop closed approximately 5-6 years ago. I have never had a problem until today , Easter Sunday, when I was told I was no longer welcome INSIDE the store, but could pick up groceries outside. For those of us with disabilities, the effort to get out is tough & the times we do it is usually enjoyable & well worth the effort. To be treated so poorly & like a second class citizen is unconscionable &, quite frankly, disgusting. Heaven help all those with disabilities, & forgive those who are so cruel as to deny us being a part of society. I will no longer shop at Baldwin Stop & Shop but find someplace else where management is more accepting of those different. read more

Although this store is the closest grocery store, I will NOT shop here anymore. The store is filthy (dirty floors, and why would you have someone blow torch the filthy tiles up in the middle of the day? No one wants to smell that while they shop for groceries), some of the employees I've encountered are rude or disregard personal hygiene when handling the food, they almost always manage to be out of whatever staple item I went in for (for example, milk, eggs on a regular day-- not preceding or following a storm or holiday), and like other reviews state check everything to make sure it's not expired before you leave the store. These are only a few examples of my many disappointing experiences here. I think it's time for the neighborhood to speak up and find a way to bring in a new grocery store. read more

BULLSH*T. I am totally offended by supermarket chains that "bend, twist and inflate" their prices towards the areas because of the median incomes. It is UNACCEPTABLE. Pricing should be universal. I mean McDonalds does not alter their prices; Hamptons or Selden or Forest Hills or Bellmore .....same prices ! Now- I don't know this area really well BUT the prices here are HIGHER than the location in Huntington Village. Why ? I dunno - YOU TELL ME! This was a Waldbaums until the bankruptcy of the parent company caused this store to be sold to stop and shop.Very average stop and shop.Not as many lines as with Waldbaums. Good sales at times however it is hard to get help at the store.Store appears understaffed and it.seems like several unhappy workers work at this location. Many items on sale have to be rain checked. overall decent/average experience here, but a few things need to be changed or improved. The current bag situation at checkout kinda sucks, to be honest. it takes even longer to check out because of it, and items are often forgotten in them. In addition, this store should hire and properly train baristas that are friendly with customers. Today (11-12-17), i went with my two little cousins to that Starbucks to get something to drink, and the current barista is just not friendly with customers. we were going to try the buy one get one free holiday drink, and because the event starts at 2 pm, and we came in at 11 am, we couldn't, and instead of politely telling us that we were unable to take part in this holiday event due to the time issue, she simply cut us off with a stern "NO". in addition , she is constantly forgetting the orders that are placed and we often found her yelling across the coffee shop at us asking questions about our order instead of simply writing it on the cup. Finally, the overall attitude of the stop and shop staff needs to be improved for it appears as though no one wants to be there. read more
