Wow, I hate to admit this but I've lived across the street from Stonington's for years and just recently tried it. Probably because I rarely eat fried food and I have to be in the mood for fried seafood. However, man...this place is delicious. I was super excited about going because the menu is so diverse. I love the fact that they have so many side orders as well. You can have fried fish, chicken and shrimp in whatever combination you like. You can also mix and match the sides. It was suggested to me that I order the Mac n cheese and cornbread as they are their most popular items. I ended up ordering the fried butterfly shrimp, Mac and cornbread. The shrimp were fried perfectly in fresh oil, the Mac was full of flavor due to their use of different cheeses, and the cornbread was thick and airy and I really like the touch of cinnamon. Talk about guilty pleasures. I underestimated how busy this place gets. It's really popular so I suggest you go really early. All seafood is made to order, so it's not going to be out quick due to sitting under heat lamps. I suggest ordering a beverage and taking a seat or doing some shopping and coming back for pickup if you don't plan on dining in. My food was awesome and I can't wait to go back. The first thing you should know is that the baked macaroni and cheese is to die for! The restaurant is very clean and the service is very fast and efficient! I had the shrimp and chicken tenders - which are really large pieces of chicken breast fried and it is very delicious! The onion rings are also made from scratch and very good if you like them lightly battered. The prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is very laid back. They have indoor and outdoor dining as well as take out. I have absolutely NO complaints so much I went back the next day after my first time! In ORLANDO for business, wanted seafood and there were several places but since they specialized in fried shrimp, I made the 35 min drive from the airport. One word DELICIOUS...so worth it. I wasn't expecting much walking in, since we had never heard of this place and chose it because we weren't in the mood for anything else convenient but I am so glad we went. The shrimp were good, but the catfish was delicious (although it didn't look impressive when brought out, it was fresh, tasty, crispy, and perfectly cooked. The best thing we had was the crab cake. It was absolutely worth the $6+ for a single one--I haven't had a crab cake that good since la boheme and didn't expect it from a lower priced fish fry kind of place. The cake was pure crab and no filler, my guess is that it was just made with crab, egg, a little bit of spices, and just enough bread crumbs to lightly coat the top and bottom. The sauce that was served with the food was really good but we had to use it in small amounts because it could easily over power the taste of the seafood, but nothing was too salty, over done, or less than yummy. I even wanted to hug the chef by the time we'd finished eating! For our sides we had homemade onion rings (that were really homemade!), cole slaw that was diced and not too sweet nor had too much mayo, and macaroni and cheese that was super creamy and one of the best I have ever tasted. We will definitely drive across town to visit again, the lobster roll and the fried oysters are at the top of my list to try. read more

The CORNBREAD!!! OMG! I was not expecting the moist, fluffy, quite substantial amount of yummy deliciousness. I honestly have thoughts about just returning for the cornbread and that's it. I've lived in the area for a few months now and intended to try more restaurants near me. So, when I saw the Groupon Now ad for Stonington's I snagged it immediately. I was admittedly va bit taken aback by the lack of a crowd when I initially walked in on a Saturday afternoon. There were just two other people there and all else was quiet. But, I proceeded with my order anyway. I ordered the fried shrimp, onion rings, and cornbread. For me, the shrimp could have been more flavorful - they were way too plain for my taste. The onion rings were quite good, and well, you know how I feel about the cornbread. :-) A fabulous plus is that the customer service was absolutely astounding. The cashier who took my order was very pleasant and made sure I was comfortable with my order from beginning to end. Overall the shrimp, fries and crib bread is all I would stick to. The catfish lacked flavor and it didn't wow me. The macaroni and red beans and rice also lacked flavor. Especially the red beans and rice. To get my money's worth I plan on fixing it up when I get home. It's really nice inside, clean bathrooms and the staff is friendly. We ended up here because one of our favorite places had too long of a wait. We yelped local and this came up... We've been looking for a good shrimp place that is local and they filled this void! It's somewhat small on the inside. Located in a strip mall. You order at the cash register and then they call your number when it's ready. Be careful when you get your food because it's fresh outta the over or fryer and hot! The shrimp are butterfly - lightly breaded and super fresh tasting. Kudos to the cook for not overcooking them. They really were perfect and delicious. The fries are bigger size and my son liked them. They needed a bit of salt but it was right on the table so no problem The Mac and cheese was outta this world. Home made and delicious. I don't even like Mac and cheese but next time I will get some of my own. Cornbread was ok. My son LOVED it. I prefer a cornbread not as sweet but it was still good and I love how they slice it from a loaf and brown the slice on both sides. Nice touch. Side salad was good. Ranch dressing excellent. Sweet tea was fresh and perfect. CRUSHED ICE people! I wish there was some basic shrimp sauce. Heck there might be but I didn't ask. They give you a sauce for the shrimp that wasn't my style but tasted freshly made. I will definitely be back. Over and over again. You can't beat 2 dinners with 8 pieces of shrimp each pick 2 sides and a drink and free onion rings for under $30. My son said 13 out of 10. I say everyone should come here at least once. Plan to repeat the trip because you will want more when you're done. If you are a Shrimp Lover then Stonington's Seafood is a must try! They Specialize in the butterflied fried shrimp, I placed my order for the 5 piece Shrimp/2 Crab Cakes with Cole Slaw, homemade Onion Rings, 6 cheese baked Mac & Cheese and Cornbread, I just wanted to basically try all of the sides which were really inexpensive compared to some places I have been. Food did not take long at all to come out as everything is made to order the waitress brought our food out and my first impression of Stonington's got even better, everything looked great, the shrimp is lightly breaded cooked golden brown and you can actually taste the shrimp without all the breading and the crab cakes are the absolute best one of the great crab cakes that I have, the crab cake had so much lump crab and little breading just enough to bind it together and it was the best in addition the baked 6 cheese mac and cheese was also very good I enjoyed that the Cole Slaw was great as well and I love the way they do their onion rings very thin sliced and lightly coated, and last but certainly not least is their cornbread never had it this way but the cornbread is cut like it was baked in a loaf pan and sliced buttered on both sides and place on the flat top and browned on both sides with the butter being distributed thru the cornbread while browning on flat top but this cornbread is the best I've had being done this way. SOOOOOOO I must say that this is place will become one of my Favorites and any time I make it back home I will frequent Stonington's Seafood this is a definite MUST, and I must add that as we were seated eating the restaurant was packed with call in's and eat in's. Today makes about the 6th time I've been to Stonington's, and best believe, I will continue to go back! I found this simple little shrimp joint when I worked at a job right by it and wandered in one day. I am so glad I did! Unfortunately, it's pretty far from my house, but my job now recently moved, so I'm close to it again. Needless to say, I've been there for lunch twice this week! I always get the same thing when I go- it's the perfect combination and portion size. I get the 5-piece fried shrimp meal. They are decent sized and butterflied before fried. Their shrimp are some of the best I've had in Orlando. Especially of the fried variety. Their breading is perfection! Not too much or too heavy with a delicious taste. To make it even better, with every order they throw in this impeccable remoulade sauce to dip them in. Absolutely scrumptious! With any shrimp meal, you get 2 sides. Both the sides I choose are absoultely sublime. The cornbread (as I'm sure you've read on all the other reviews on here) is to DIE FOR. Seriously, some of the best I've ever had. I'm finicky about it too, I like it sweet and not gritty. The cornbread at Stonington's has a definite sweetness to it. Not sure if they add a dash of vanilla, cinnamon, or nutmeg- can't quite put my finger on it. All I know is it's darn good! The texture is more like a moist cake than your average cornbread. It's not like any I've tasted before. The second side that I get to compliment my meal is the 6-cheese baked macaroni. It is also very tasty. You can taste and appreciate that everything here is homemade and made to order. Their recipes are well thought out and made with love. Another great thing about Stonington's is the prices!! They are very reasonable and down right cheap! Getting appetizing, quality food for a low cost is such a rare find. It's usually always packed in Stonington's, so if you're picking up lunch, I definitely recommend calling it in. I had to wait a while last time I went, but it is worth it! They also have outdoor seating which is always a plus in my book. Overall, I do not have one bad thing to say about Stonington's. I rarely give out 5 stars, but this place deserves it! Eh. It was alright. Frankly, the amount of 4 and 5 star reviews for this place lends merit to the idea that people in this area lack developed taste buds for quality fried seafood. Ordered the 3pc shrimp and catfish with fries and mac and cheese. Now, I am a 105lb female who, yes, can really eat but I thought the portion size for this $10plus meal was VERY small. Like I'm annoyed at how hungry I still am. Shrimp were nicely sized, butterflied, which is all good, but then they add on all of 4 slim catfish strips, a side dish that amounts to three and a half decent bites and then a handful of mostly overly crispy cheap fries. For these prices, I'd expect handcut fries, or at the very least fresh oil for frying them. Hell, even a crinkle cut would have assuaged my ire at the sides. Shrimp breading was decent, nothing to write home about, and catfish were ok. Just ok. I judge good catfish I don't make myself by whether or not I have to douse it in liberal amounts of hot sauce. Suffice to say my bottle is now empty. I will say I could very well be spoiled based on numerous years of living in Nola and Houston and having access to literal tons of gas station/corner store/mom and pop seafood shops that sell fried vittles at the rate of 3-4 entire catfish fillets + side for less than $10, or a whole styrofoam box plate of large shrimp, or a mixed combo what would not only render me full but on occasion even leave a bit for a later snack. But still. I expect way more for a town that is approximately an hour from either coast. And certainly more from a $10 seafood take out meal, from a restaurant that is trying hard to come off as sophisticated. Guess I paid for all the lovely decor and tv's in the restaurant. Next time (if I completely lose my mind and actually go back) I'll make sure to eat there to get the full value of my money. And I'll use all THEIR hot sauce up. read more

Due to unfortunate circumstances we were unable to stick with our original dinner plans for our Grandfather's 80th birthday dinner. I called and asked if they could accommodate our 12 person party, which they said they could do with ease. The whole team was friendly and service was exceptional. We interacted mainly with Shannon who was so sweet and went out of her way to make sure we had a great 80th birthday dinner. While the food was great and we had no order issues, it's the service that the whole team gave us that will keep us coming back. My wife had catfish and shrimp, and I had shrimp and crab cakes with mac n cheese and corn bread. Not one thing was a let down!!! The crab cakes had lots of lump crab and was perfect! The shrimp and catfish were lightly breaded (just the way I like it) and cooked perfectly with great flavor! The cornbread and mac n cheese were so good. I should have ordered an additional cornbread but I didn't expect it to be so good. Only one other thing. Small menu with focus on a few items but very good at everything they do...I wouldn't change a thing. Some menu pics on yelp review site made me think lobster rolls might be available. This opened last month and I didn't realize it until I was wandering around in the area looking for delicious tacos at Tijuana Flats the other day and passed by it. If it's a chain (there is another location on Silver Star) then it's a damn good chain. This is your basic seafood shack, where the preparation is simple but expertly executed, and the preferred method of cooking is breading + frying. I've noticed that in Orlando, seafood is either held up and put on a pretty, vaguely expensive pedestal or it's a mystery fish sandwich at McDonald's, so this is a very happy compromise between the hoity-toity/casual scenes and a VERY welcome change. The decor is nice, it's not ultra-swank but they did put some good thought into it -- lots of booths and a little almost-bar surrounded by tall tables on the side. And they play Motown hits. All the time. Snazzy upbeatness abounds! They've got a delicious lump (!!!) crab meat roll that's served on this heavenly pillowy bread with a slightly buttery, crunchy crust. I am a gentleman who enjoys his blue crab, and I about screeched with joy when I ordered this and it was everything I was hoping it would be. The grilled scallops we ordered were perfectly prepared -- a nice heavily flavorful char on the outside and a buttery soft interior. The sides are good -- red beans and rice that are actually spicy! -- but the real attraction is the seafood. I couldn't get enough of my crab roll, and I'll be back to try the po' boys very soon. Ahhh, Stongington's. I thought I had lost you. I loved your Po'Boys and corn bread when you were in Ocoee. Then one day when I called you had disconnected your number and hadn't even bothered to tell me! I was heartbroken! Until one day when I saw another Yelper review you and I was elated, overjoyed! Once again I could satisfy my Po' Boy craving with your generous helping of shrimp and soft pillowy hoagie roll. And oh the sauce! That creamy, tangy caper sauce I couldn't get enough of!! Imagine yourself stumbling upon a seafood restaurant that has a "New England Style" lobster roll and screaming with excitement on the inside because you've finally found a place to satisfy that lobster roll craving you've been having ever since you saw the annoying lobster fest commercials airing on TV. Tucked inside a nondescript strip mall along Kirkman Road near Orlando's MetroWest area, Stonington's Fried Shrimp is a simple, quick and easy place to grab not only fried shrimp but also crab cakes, catfish, oysters, and fried chicken. I didn't get to try any of the other items besides the fried shrimp so not sure how they are. I'd say...stick with the shrimp to be on the safe side I recently stopped in for lunch and was surprised by the warm and friendly greeting of our cashier/server. She was truly the epitome of southern hospitality, manning the register and taking orders at the counter. It was a very welcome sight to see and I felt quite at home. The fried shrimp is the main attraction here at Stonington's and I ordered two sides to accompany it: shoestring onion rings and 6 cheese baked macaroni. The shrimp was fried quite delicately and with a wonderfully seasoned and light batter. Often times when seafood is fried the taste is lost in all the grease, but it was different here and definitely a plus. After seeing an add on TV I decided to look up Stonington's, lucky me it wasn't far from our house! We opted to get the two 11 piece meals with free onion rings. Because I had read the reviews we both got cornbread and Mac and cheese. I've personally never had butterflied fried shrimp before, and I wasn't disappointed. The batter was a good thickness and had great flavor. I'm a huge fan of the dipping sauce they give you, it's a nice change from cocktail and tarter. The mac and cheese isn't the best I've ever had but it's good enough that we both ordered it the second time we went. But really, it's all about the cornbread. I don't know what kind of magic they use to make it but it's sinfully good. It's crumbly and sweet Honestly I'll skip dessert, just give me more cornbread, please!!
