Yes, it was a buttock-cringing moment as I walked into the place....... ..... and then...... I noticed the very easy-on-the-eyes brunette bartender.... she was a dead-ringer for Lara Flynn Boyle, but much hotter. The crowd was a pleasant, Cheers-esque group of regulars that laughed and drank the day away. It could have been a pub in any-city USA. The great part? Among the beers on tap were the only 2 types I drink: guiness and weiss beers.... LOTS of them. AND..... the bartender was actually nice. She was totally cool. None of the yes-I-know-I-am-hot attitude you find in big-city bitches. The food was awesome too. I had a buffalo-wing salad, while my gimpy pal-recovering-from-gout had a reuben sandwhich. We were surprised to discover that the place does not serve any processed foods, and everything, despite the pub-grub stigma, was pretty damn good quality food. 2 beers, 2 large entrees set us back about $17-ish, which I thought was a miscalculation because I pretty much pay double that in the city..... and did I mention the cute bartender with no attitude? Being midafternoon the restaurant only had couple and a six top of people celebrating one of diner's 70th birthday. The rest of the restaurant was empty. I commented to my wife how clean the carpet looked. We reviewed the menu and asked Katie what some of the popular dishes were and if she had her choice between the fish & chips or the clams which would she choose. She praised the fish and said that the clams depend on who is cooking. Said today was a fish day. We ordered a Fish & Chips, a pretzel bites which is new to their menu, and the JP minis with an upgrade to onion rings. The pretzel bites were brought out very quickly. The ten little nuggets of pretzel goodness were delicious. The cheese sauce was a perfect compliment to the bites. Our mains came out just as we ate the last pretzel bite. Let's start with fish and chips. The fried scrod was flaky, delicate, and moist, perfectly cooked. The crinkle cut fries were very good. The cole slaw had a nice crunch and not overly done up with celery salt. It was a dry slaw. The JP minis were at trio of juicy sliders with mayo, mustard, and a pickle slice. Very juice two bite burgers. Struck the perfect balance of meat to bread. The onion rings were a bit over fried, had a satisfying crunch, but some were missing the onion. For dessert we split a chocolate chip lava cake. While it was good, it was a little too much sweet on sweet on sweet. The food and service was above average. Definitely will stop by again. Two thing really were turn offs. I mentioned the amount of cigarette smoke from patrons smoking right near the bar door. Next time I will park in the south side and use that restaurant entrance. Second and perhaps the most annoying is that they charge a fee to use a credit card. No where in their menu or any other signage was this additional fee disclosed other than at the bottom of the bill. If my math is correct it is about 4%. So in summary good food and service, avoid the bar side, and be aware they charge extra to pay by credit card.

A hefty portion of perfectly cooked broccoli, zucchini, mushrooms and scallions with buttered noodles, one with chicken and one with shrimp, in an extremely light and flavorful Asian hinted sauce that anyone would like. We just kept saying it was all so very tasty and delicious. The chicken was very tender and superbly cooked, and the shrimp awesome and perfect. The pub was very noisy with one very loud party and loud music. We couldn't talk, but mostly because we couldn't stop eating. Priced well and highly recommended. I can't confirm but I believe they might cut and bread everything themselves (or at least that's how it tasted!). We got the hot dog w/ kraut, fries, BLTAC, onion rings, chicken strips, burger and one of the specials. I think parts of the food and drink specials were a little 'try-hard' --- meaning a bit fancier than needed for this type of place. But they are probably trying to keep in line with the all the craft places in the area. Regardless, everything was delicious and reasonably priced. He gave us our own section of the room which was recently renovated and was bright, clean and had a beautiful large bar. The staff were all friendly, professional and attentive. I ordered several orders of the appetizers on the menu and they even made vegetarian black bean burger sliders not found on the menu. Food was delicious. We were all very happy with the day.
